This is a hidden gem in the wilderness. Forgot something for your camping trip, or want to find some cool nic nacs like gold pans, fishing gear, vintage clothing, jewelry, and even a large comic book collection, or get a beer and a burger. This is the place to go. A quaint little bar with a nice bungalow or teepees to camp in. And a great family too running the show. 10/10

This is a must stop if you're in the area! The new owners are the kindest, sweetest souls. They make some good nosh and have all types of beers on draft and in various size cans. In addition, they are offering up all types of necessities (like that one item you forgot to pack), as well as an assortment of collectible items, toys, snacks. Oh, and there is a piano and a always-hot mic to belt out your love for California's Gold Country.

One of the best spots if you like swimming in the Yuba River. Rocky rest campground is where we swim but stay at indian valley for a better camping experience. They have a nice bathroom and store. We rented an RV spot but threw up a couple tents and it was amazing.

Love this place! Staff, vibes, sites are open, and swimming across the street in the creek. Food, drinks, and an assortment of camping supplies in the restaurant/bar. Love the new owners and they seem to be constantly improving the campground. I'll be back soon

Terrible experience, would rate 0/5. Made a reservation in January for a family camping trip towards the end of July. We were coming from out of state, so we thought we could minimize the things we needed to bring by renting a cabin from the Outpost. My dad and mom were going to stay with us so we thought staying at the Outpost would be more comfortable for them, too. We got a call about three hours before check-in and was informed our cabin was unavailable because of a plumbing issue, then told it was still being remodeled, and we could stay at a B&B just up the road from Downieville, which turned out to be half an hour away from where we wanted to be. We got there in the late afternoon to find the place a complete dump. Dirty linens, termites, fridge full of expired food, and we were placed in a hot attic room with little ventilation. My husband got locked out of the house and we were supplied with no keys. Luckily I was still inside. It was miserable, no one slept, the house was hot and had a super creepy vibe. The next morning we packed our things, I drove to Grass Valley and bought tents, air mattresses, and several blankets. I wasted half of one of my vacation days fixing a problem out of my control. I could have easily packed tents and camping supplies if given a days notice. It was so inconsiderate and I will never stay there and recommend you not stay there either. I was so lucky to have family staying at Carlton across the street to help us with what other supplies we didn't have. The Outpost used to be a reliable, fun place to visit and I've seen the Outpost evolve for the past 40 years. The Outpost is only good for ice these days, I'm sad to say. I can not express what a horrible experience we endured. It could have ruined our trip if we'd let it. Be careful if you choose to make a response. It could be disregard and you could get screwed. We did receive a full refund, but we were not refunded for our inconvenience and time lost with family on our vacation.

(Please note that I did not spend the night at the resort but was staying at a nearby campground so my review is on the actual outpost.)Went here to get red bull and marshmallows and use the bathroom while I was there. Bathroom was not in the best shape and had bugs, but everything worked and due the the location of the business and the bathrooms being outside it’s mostly unavoidable. Prices were high, but it wasn’t that bad. Great interior too.

My son’s car broke down and it took two day to get a tow truck to come the guys in the store we’re so nice to let us leave the car in the parking lot until a tow truck could get there and also gave us free bottled water because they could tell we were having a rough time you don’t run into people like that that offer nowadays just wanted to say a big thank you.

Tight RV site but very friendly hosts and their cat Izzy. Neat place in the Sierra and convenient location to lakes around Sierra Butte and to Grass Valley.
