Aviara Golf Club in Carlsbad is San Diego’s only golf course designed by Arnold Palmer. It is named the #1 golf resort in Southern California by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler and recognized as one of the country’s best resort golf courses by Golf Digest and Golf Magazine. The course is lovely and challenging. Golfers need to play straight and know how to read the greens well. The layout is challenging but fair, rewarding smart play without ever feeling punishing. Every hole feels intentional—lush, immaculately kept, and framed by coastal breezes and rolling terrain. Greens are pristine, bunkers are sculpted perfectly, and the pace of play respects your day. The vibe is calm, polished, and quietly world-class. The staff is friendly, attentive, and the atmosphere is welcoming. Practice facilities are top-tier, and the views make you pause mid-round. It feels like a tournament venue and a relaxing escape at the same time. The course offers tour level conditions but plays difficult, yet forgiving. One hole, number 17, needs some attention. Tee boxes were a bit mediocre and fairways were decent. If you love golf that’s beautiful, strategic, and impeccably run—Aviara is unforgettable.
Incredible round. Beautiful course, stunning views, got lucky on the weather. Would love to return.

The course looks and feels like a botanical garden with smooth fairways and fast greens. Beautiful views from every tee box, huge greens, and strategic water hazards that seemed to be exactly where my ball wanted to be. A little pricey, but I don't play here every week.

Ember and Rye is a fabulous restaurant! Cocktail and Caviar for the win.
