They don't even deserve a rating ! The girls at the desk were great but the doctor was awful . She could quote and definition out of a book but knew nothing about dogs and was even afraid of my dog who is just a puppy . They charged me a fortune and did not even treat my dog for the emergency we were there for . Had to go to another vet later in the day that did perform emergency treatment and didn't charge us a penny . These people are money hungry and know nothing about caring for a pet . This wasn't the first time they sent me away because of money . My chihuahua died because they refused to treat him . If you love your pets do not take them there take them to the VEG Hospital in Encinitas

VCA has been nothing but wonderful, compassionate, and supportive Throughout the process of our young Golden and her cancer. Dr. Prouxl truly is wonderful and although we couldn't cure Lily's cancer, he gave her everything he could. There is no one we would have wanted to entrust Lily's care with more than him.

Updating my review: After my initial review (2 stars) I got in touch with the hospital manager, Emily. She was very understanding and apologetic about what had happened and offered to refund the difference and honor what we were originally promised. Emily was kind, professional and truly took the time to listen to my concerns. I'm updating my review to reflect 5 stars as 1) we really liked the vets we saw and they saved our dogs life 2) when an issue arose Emily was quick to empathize and provide a solution that we were happy with. Based off of this experience, we would 100% return and I would recommend VCA Carlsbad!

Our sweet Bernese Mountain Dog Emma was in need of a delicate surgery (vulvoplasty) Our Vet recommended we find a board certified surgeon. It was a difficult decision however the results are absolutely amazing!! Our dog has been suffering with many types of infections requiring antibiotics for over a year. We are so pleased with the care and support team of doctors and staff are the best! The recovery is a bit over two weeks we took our first 15 minute walk today after our check up!

I am so thankful for the VCA Carlsbad Hospital. My dog experienced weird coughing around early November. We took him to the vet who put him on Doxy and cough suppressents. After the Doxy, things just still did not seem right. My dog was lethargic, etc. So I called the VCA to be safe and explained the situation. They recommended I bring him in for an exam and so glad I did because it turns out he has pneumonia. Yes - it will be costly because - YOU HAVE A PET that you decided to take care of no matter the cost (which is cheaper than a human). It's basically til death do us part. Would you complain about the cost for your child? I did love that they listened to me. They cared about my pets. They explained everything to me very straightforward, what the test is, what cost, etc. Most impt: they follow up. I will fill this in later with the exact name of the employee at VCA but she called me a couple days later to check in, talk about his continuing symptoms and noted she would be looking out for the rest of his panels. I love the thoroughness. And yes it was def MORE EXPENSIVE than I would like to pay. But I feel a lot better now that he's on another med, etc.

They are Outstanding!!! I couldn't be happier with my experience! My 11.5 year old baby boy collapsed in my arms in the middle of the night and everything seemed to happen so fast! Panic! This was the closest hospital to us and I am SO THANKFUL for every single tech, doc, etc that helped my boy that night and the next day.Turns out my handsome boy's spleen was bleeding internally. It was caught early, and removed the next day and he is thriving just three days after surgery! THRIVING! I can't even believe it. I will forever be thankful for VCA California Veterinary Specialists- Carlsbad. You saved my boy! My hearts so full and happy. He's snoring on my lap as I write this and just hearing him breathing brings me peace. I truly don't even know how to truly express my ultimate gratitude. I just love you all so much! THANK YOUJamie and Major

While I was in San Diego, my dog developed a mass on her lip. The biopsy results came back as sebaceous carcinoma which is a very rare form of cancer. During my oncology consultation, Dr. Ogilvie explained what that was and what my next steps should be based on the information provided by Dr. Kirpatrick at Jamacha Pet Vets. I felt comfortable making decisions based on his recommendations and there was never any pressure. Brooklyn did blood work that day and returned the next day for her CT scan. Once the CT scan was completed the next day, Dr. Ogilvie called me personally and explained the results and his recommendation. The staff there was kind, organized and followed up each time I called/emailed. I'm very pleased with their service!

We saw Dr. Proulx for an oncology consultation for our Coonhound who has mast cell tumors. He explained everything about the tumors in a way that was easy to understand. He provided options and did NOT try to push us into any treatments that would likely not help our boy's cancer (chemo or radiation). He suggested a couple of medications that can help slow down the appearance of new tumors. We were not pressed to make any decision on the spot and not made to feel like the selection or declining of any of the proposed options would make us neglectful pet parents. We left the appointment feeling well-prepared to make the right choices for our boy, and for our bank account which, sadly, we must consider. Bethany, his vet tech is a gem. She's kind and intelligent, and she took charge of our very vocal dog while we consulted with the doctor. The whole experience was very positive, especially considering the reason for the consultation in the first place. Highly recommend!

This place was great! Everyone was very nice. The prices aren't extravagant either. The vet techs and vet that took care of my pup were great. We didn't feel rushed at the consult, treatment options were discussed in depth and all my questions were answered.

I can't say enough about this place. Please give them a chance and take some of the previous reviews with a grain of salt.VCA is currently taking care of my sweet little girl Mysti, and their entire staff has been nothing but helpful since my first visit a few days ago. From Dr. Osmond & his team for being so diligent and thorough, to the staff members (Amanda & Ashley) who provided me updates while going above and beyond. I know my little pitty is in the best hands during this incredibly difficult time and I can't express enough gratitude for landing here with her. Thank you all so much.

I brought my pup in after a coyote attack. Dr. Bier and Kimeson (vet assistant) were very professional, very kind and understanding and didn’t make me feel pressured into anything there. They left such a great impression on me, I will recommend them to any family and friends. Thank you!

Great place and amazing staff, they were there for me and my dog when my regular vet were close to closing and turned me a way. Ultimately my dog did not make it due to a previously unknown massive throat tumor. Compassionate and professional staff.

My pup Phineas developed osteosarcoma back in November and the team here has been a blessing. They handled the amputation, they handle post-op infection, and they handled the round of chemotherapy. The oncology team has given me so much joy to see my pup happy, running, and jumping chasing lizards and all. Thank you Dr. Ogilvie.Update 11Jun2023, we can’t thank enough then incredible team at VCA for everything they did for our pup Phineas. We are super great full for the time we had but had to reckon with this disease. When Phin’s health rapidly began to decline this last week we were given help with making him comfortable and this allowed us to be with him when he passed at home with us after a great day with a picnic and all the walking he could muster. We are so great ful to the surgical team, emergency medicine team, and radiation and oncology teams.

This place is absolutely freaking amazing!!! Our senior dog had a dislocated hip and we were referred here from Thrive Urgent Care (also an amazing place). When we arrived we were helped immediately and right away we could tell the staff truly cares about your pet. Due to the complication of her injury we had to wait until the surgeon came in the next morning (it was late at night when we brought her in). Dr. Osmond was our surgeon. Let me tell you, this man is a freaking saint! He went above and beyond in taking care of both our needs and our pet's. They never make you feel like you're bothering them and always always have time to answer your questions. Every single one of their staff is absolutely amazing. Words can't express how grateful I am for the amazing service and care we continue to receive from here. Honestly, if they treated humans too, this would be my Dr. Absolutely love this place!
