We had an event booked for a Friday night. The day before, on Thursday they called us and said that they double booked the night and the other party had grown and we would not be allowed to have our event at Manzanita Place. Enough said?

Good locations for events. Unfortunately the architecture is pretty dated.

I saw Ani Difranco here. As an ex-resident of Chico, I was sort of weirded out when I hadn't heard of this place. But, apparently, they have shows there. It's a big grassy field with a set up stage toward the front. It was great for the Ani D. atmosphere. But I can't imagine seeing another genre of music here. It had a really nice hippie/chill vibe going on. A bunch of local vendors came and set up shop and were selling food here. I'm not sure if other artists have the same sort of turnout, but if they did, it's definitely a selling point. I didn't venture to try the row of portapotties because it was a little too scary. In the end, I'd go to another show here. It'd be nice to have some sort of festival here, it seems to have that ambiance.

I give the venue four stars. I give the event organizer two and a half. The location is cute. It's a field between a trailer park and a parking lot, behind the Elk's Lodge, which is like the town rec center. There is literally a park down toward the end of the field, so seeing a concert here was a trip. There were real bathrooms and porta-potties set up for the show. The line got all funkdified when people who had been waiting a long time for a general admission show were moved around a bunch because the organizer thought it was smart to have people line up in the handicap spots in the parking lot. In the end, we said screw it and congregated on the lovely shaded grass just outside the entrance to the field. This unorganized fashion was pretty much the style of the even "organizer", but things ended up being pretty alright. The sound was great, the crowd was pretty awesome, and the performance rocked. This would be a cute venue for a minifestival, maybe folk or reggae -- it's super chill and great for kids.
