I have had to take my animals here on occasions because after hours or because some of my pets (chicken) are exotic. First Valley Oak hits your pocketbook, hard. Most people i know have gone into debt for using Valley Oak. Then they take your pet back where you are not aloud. You will have no idea what your scared, sick pet is going through and they won’t tell you. Their policies are cold and discompassionate. I have never left VCA Valley Oak feeling fully confident my animals have been given the most tender care because I am not allowed to ask or know. Their is no transparency. All of their “concerned” answers to any bad reviews is just PR fluff. They really don’t care beyond collecting your money.

They seem to know what they're doing and have saved 2 of my cats, and you can't beat their hours. Despite the fact that they're mad expensive and owned by private equity. I wish capitalism wasn't so devastating to the veterinary industry, but alas.

I would not recommend this place. My cat was attacked by two dogs. They performed major surgery for $2600 and she was dead two days later. I called multiple times because she was in such pain and they did nothing and didn't call back until after she was dead.

If you have an emergency, have a backup plan other than Valley Oak. IF (by some miracle) they're not at full capacity and your pet can be seen sometime that week, they constantly have issues with over-charging and (in my last case) double charging. It's such a shame since they're basically the only local VCA option, but you'll have a much better experience driving the extra hour for decent care in Loomis, Cottonwood, or anywhere else other than this Chico spot.

Our dog Chandler was in a dog fightand his throat was torn up. We went to VCA around 7pm and the staff was awesome. The vet tech was as good as a vet when telling us the damage and treatment. Dr Hicks took over and we could not have felt more comfortable . He performed the surgery and gave me a call around 2am. The update he provided was extensive and complete. He was amazing. Our Chandler is recovering and very comfortable. We are grateful and thankful for the attention and quality of their care for our family. Thank you all

Been going here for years, and have brought many pets here. We've received nothing but top notch care and greeted by the friendliest people. Other vets I've been to in the area have all been horrible small dark buildings with staff that don't seem to want to be there. But VCA valley oak is brightly lit feels homey. As I said the staff are tops, so nice and welcoming. The vets are knowledgeable and care. As for people complaining about price, I don't get it? It's roughly the same price and even if it's a more than your usual vet, the care and atmosphere is worth it. And the wait time can be long, but that just shows how many people trust this place and how busy they are.

If you would want to charged an exorbitant amount of money for minimal services and vets who use graphic and profane language then come here!

Over the years, I have occasionally brought my dogs here for emergencies, or when we couldn’t get in to see our regular vet in a timely fashion. I have always received good service, but my most recent visit was exceptional! My rescue pup abhors having her toenails trimmed and jerked her paw hard, and I accidentally cut into the quick. Ordinarily, this wouldn’t be an emergency. The problem was, it was the night of New Year’s Eve, and I couldn’t find any open pharmacies where I could buy styptic powder to stop the bleeding. After a couple hours of trying the home remedies I could find online and not being able to get the bleeding stopped (she’s a really active dog, which doesn’t help), I ended up calling down to Valley Oak at almost 10 o’clock at night, pretty worn out and desperate. Lisa was working the desk, and very kindly had two vet techs ready to greet us when we finally arrived about 11pm. They were able to get the bleeding stopped within minutes in the lobby, so they didn’t even charge me for the visit. I’m embarrassed to say I was so exhausted, I forgot to get the vet techs’ names, but they were incredible! So friendly and great with my anxious dog, even at that ungodly hour, and they even sent me home with a little extra powder in case it started bleeding again in the night. Thanks to them, we rang in the new year in the living room instead of the pet hospital! I really felt like their whole team went above and beyond to help us out in a tough spot, and we will definitely be back (though hopefully, never for this issue again…). Huge thanks to the Valley Oak team!!

Very disappointed and frustrated. I came in at 6:40am because I was told over the phone it was first come first serve for the urgent care slots. Which apparently is not true, assuming since when I got there they told me all the urgent care slots were booked over the phone for the day. I waited an hour in the parking lot a for their call to let me know there was an opening. It wasn’t till 8am when people started showing up to bring their pets in…. They couldn’t have kept their word about the first come fist serve and also couldn’t just see my dog before everyone showed up? They only had over an hour to check him out.

Had my cat examined at Oroville's VCA location and had to pay $500 just to tell me she had chronic renel failure. The signs were pretty obvious without the test but you know, they insisted. Well of course rhat day they didn't think she needed any fluids but of course when the tests come back now they want to pump hwr full for another $500 of course. Well I tried to get just the at home meds today from they're Chico location because Oroville is closed and NO, we'd need to do our own exam 1st. Blood suckers!!! Don't really care about you or your animal!!! This is why I hate all things medical related. They're experimenting at best and then overcharging us for it!!!!

Took my puppy in that had parvo and they almost killed him. Pumping way too much fluid into him. Had no idea what the hell they were doing. Went and picked him up before they killed him.

I had to take my cat in last night. She was hit by a car and I found her dead in the street. I didn’t really know what to do so I called them. They told me to go ahead and bring her in for cremation. Once I got there I asked if they could scan her microchip just to make sure it was her. Just in case. They did. While scanning she had some muscle spasms. I asked if they could just make sure she was really dead just in case. I didn’t want her to suffer anymore if she was somehow still alive. They took her back and confirmed she was dead. No heartbeat. I had intended to sit in my car with her a little bit after the scan, but wasn’t able to do that before taking her back. I wasn't quite ready to let go yet and I asked if I could sit with her for a little bit and were really compassionate. They set me up in a room, checked on me, comforted me, and allowed me to take my time saying goodbye.I didn’t get anyone’s name since it was all kind of a blur. But it was the staff who was there around 7 pm on Sunday the 17th. Every single one of the them were so kind, calm, comforting, and compassionate. I really appreciate what yall do. So thank you.
