I agree with all those giving it 1 star. Man this "company" is still in the dinosaur era. Can't make a payment online and you want me to pay a large fee every single month to pay my car payment??? Pathetic. I did not chose them my loan was sold to them apparently. IF YOU HAVE A CHOICE DO NOT GO WITH THIS SO CALLED "Thrift and Loan".

At this day and age I don't know why this financial institution does not offer any type of online banking service. They live in the dark ages.

They worked with me during the whole term of my contract, mean they really care about their customers and what they are going through. That's not a bad thing

I've been with Balboa Thrift & Loan since 2/2020. I appreciate them giving me a loan, but their customer service is very disappointing and atrocious. I ran into some financial hardship this month due to some unexpected mechanical repairs and asked Balboa for some assistance with my July payment. Yes, they have helped me out in the past (the last extension was 10/2021 due to a similar situation since the vehicle is a 2006). I keep up with my vehicle and necessary maintenance, but I am unable to predict when the vehicle is going to require something major like my radiator going out. I spoke with Angela Jordan about my situation and she said she would need to have my representative named Paula take care of my account but proceeded to charge me an extension fee of $29+$9 processing fee for a total of $38 (Not sure why but we will get into that later). I then spoke with Paula and she told me that I would have to cover the July payment 1st before they can assist me which means it will be for the August payment?. I advised her I would not be able to do that until 8/15/22 which means my account would be 32 DPD and it might affect my credit which is what I am trying to avoid. I asked her if I could speak to her supervisor hoping that someone else could help me, so she transferred me to Christine and I told her the same thing regarding my financial hardship/current circumstance and she also made me aware that their policy does not allow a loan modification until 9 payments have been made since the last extension/loan modification. I asked for this one exception since I've been a good paying customer and my maturity date is 4/13/23? but to no avail, I then requested to speak with her superior. I spoke with the VP. Mike Bordwell (sorry if I am miss spelling any names) I made him aware of my current circumstance and financial hardship. He stated that he will not make any exception for my account and proceeded to belittle me by stating: "what the previous reps told you was not good enough, so now you have to hear it for me and it's the same thing" I made him aware that I also work for a finance company and exceptions can be made? He acknowledged that exceptions can be made but he would not make one for my account due to their company policy. I then asked; why would your representative take an "extension fee" payment from me? He did not give me a direct answer but said it will be voided and the $$ will be refunded back to me? He also stated that people that write these negative reviews have been repod or they are bad paying customers. Well I have not been repod and I am not a bad paying customer, I'm just in a tough financial situation and it's unfortunate that Balboa Thrift & Loans cannot accommodate a good paying customer. As I stated at the beginning, I appreciate Balboa Thrift & Loan giving me a loan but it's very displeasing that they have this type of customer service. I also agree with some of the comments on here about their $9 processing fee? It's outrageous!

WORST COMPANY EVER! They will straight up call you a liar, ignore your calls when requesting legal documents, and no one uses proper grammar! It's like I'm talking to a bunch of rude, stupid, children. Go literally anywhere but here. They also have straight up pocketed money i paid towards my loan that wasn't credited towards principle, interest, or any fees so where the fuck did my money go? Shut this shithole down.

They have been very inconsistent and I don't always have my loan information on me so I can't make a payment. Money is never my issue. I can never get a hold of someone, or get through to anyone by telephone. I am a plumber, I'm constantly working. I get a free moment here and there to take care of personal errands. My payment is 406.85 a month they apply the full amount towards the interest and not a single penny to my principal. I need to refinance with my bank. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE, they are very unpleasant to work with.

Tons of people buy and sell cars on weekends... But you can't get a 10-day pay-off from this company on weekends. They can take your money on weekends with the automated phone system, but you can't get a 10-day payoff any from that system. Big time bummer! Gotta wait until next week and take time off work to sell this car because that's when they answer the phone to give a buyer the pay-off amount.

Balboa Thrift and Loan just ran a hard credit on me with out my permission, consent or the like. They want to buy my building is the only reason I can think they would but I have not spoken to them nor is it for sale. WTF are these people and can someone in the know PM me and point me to a lawyer. This is some creepy who the f-are you bullshit. I have a credit monitoring and they alerted me to this Inquiry. Without that I would not have known. I call them and they say they are looking to buy and sale loans, WTH does that have to do with me. I did not ask nor did I engage this company in a manner that would make this ok. CFPB has a 97% Success rate dealing with these types of unsolicited requests. If anyone has other insight please pass it on to me. Any other Insights and a great lawyer you may no of is appreciated . I am not looking for Pro bono I'm looking to find out if this is a predatory practice and they went too far.

Don't like how there going about the whole covid situation with car payments. Called for help still want partial and raising interest at the end. Not to mention this agency wants to mess with credit also when some of us need help in this time of crisis I've always had good payment history with extra on payments. And still wanna make it harder for us. I don't recommend balboa at all for car or covid help

Newest update. I'm now adding hector to this list of horrid people who work there. Because he did not succeed in cornering/bullying me, It's now been over 8 months since they got paid from insurance MORE than this car is valued and they charged it off on my credit report, but never forgets every month on the 5th to report missed payment and my balance supposedly went up $65/month. Not sure how that works if it's charged off as bad debt but still owing..... anyway thankfully there's good auto loan places and I got an amazing car despite this dispicable company, but not everyone is lucky so beware of this company. DO NOT borrow from them, they take things personal which is completely unprofessional and will screw you any way they can!!!!!!

Awful company and wish I NEVER got a loan from them they are unprofessional and rude. Their interest rates are ridiculous. They offered a month extension due to covid but left out the part where they tell you that your next 4+ payments will go towards interest not your actual bill. So my loan has stayed the same amount for 6 months? Cause that makes sense such BS. I'll be refinancing with another company.

If you have to deal with Grace LaTorre...just hang up and ask for someone else. Every time I've had to speak with her she's nasty, rude, and not helpful at all. She spends several minutes grilling you and making you feel like you're less than human being if you're having financial difficulties and need to make arrangements. I'm a single working Mom if two and dealing with what COVID has thrown at me. At the end of conversation I was disgusted by her. I'm also in collections and I would never treat a customer that way. Everyone else I've dealt with has been fairly considerate. I do wish I could just keep one account manager instead of being changed to a different person, would make contact regarding payments much less difficult.
