14 Feet, Cloverdale. This may be the most unpretentiously hip shop in Sonoma County -- which means it's a nice place to visit full of cool stuff. It's a small interior design/decor/gift shop with merchandise far more interesting than what you'll find in the 'burg. This shop is a blessed reprieve from the ubiquitous wine label tiles. It's all wonderful, hand-made modern creations and products by imaginative and cutting-edge artists, craftspeople and manufacturers. Service is spectacular; helpful and personal. The owner, Marne Dupere, is terrific: genuine, welcoming, low key. She's a talented designer and artist herself, so she's knowledgeable and enthusiastic about her inventory. She always helps me find what I don't know I'm looking for. Also, I like the way purchases are wrapped, then bagged. Finally, there is my favorite part of the store: the wee, exquisite selection of authentic mid-century modern furniture and decor. These are the type of collectable, iconic peices that one keeps forever as conversation started and/or because they look so amazing. It is a small but drool-worthy slice of MCM otaku heaven. So, yes, I'm an unabashedly cheering fan of 14 Feet. I think everyone should pop in at least once for a look-see. And, if you take your immediate gratification via shopping, you'll be really happy here -- this is the best of popular culture's merchandise.
