Ted ONeill and this place changed the way I think from "I can't because I hurt" to "I don't think anything could ever hurt Me" I couldn't play with my daughter, I was facing the need to quit working at age 29 because of pain. DB COMPLETELY changed the way I look at my abilities and I was pain-free and strong in such a fast period of time it seemed like magic to me and the outside world.

This gym is amazing. Their back class is so helpful and my one-on-one time with Dr. Andrea was exactly what I needed. I appreciate Ted and Andrea's approach to total mind and body health and am grateful for the opportunity to work with them.

Working so hard never felt so good. If you want to push past what you thought the old you was capable of, this is the place. Diablo is an anomaly factory: everyone here is doing things they wouldn't have believed they could a year, a month, or a day ago.

Diablo Barbell is an incredible place where they help members have a total life transformation. Every morning there is an audio for members to listen to and get into the right mindset for the workout. The class sizes are small, socially distanced and held mostly outdoors. The variety of equipment and exercises keeps the past fast moving and unpredictable. The members are all committed to one another's growth and it's a very friendly and supportive environment.

I first came to Diablo Barbell because I couldn't walk without a cane. After being seen and evaluated by Dr Vitz she suggested I joined a rehab class at Diablo. It took 3 months to get off the cane and then 3 more to come off all the pain meds I was on. Im now starting a strength class and a food program. I will be the best version of myself. With the help of Coach Ted and Dr Vitz and the Diablo community everyone is so supportive.

I came to Diablo to own my inner/outer power. What Ted shared, concepts coupled with the care of precision and body safety was enlightening and intriguing. I have worked out on and off for years and with these new understandings I feel more confident in my continual goal toward my own mastery....

I tried to get some information by calling and texting the number listed about working with a powerlifting trainer. No one answered but after sending a text, someone responded and seemed helpful and asked for my information. I gave the person my background, but then the person never responded after that. I also sent an email but no one responded to that either. I know that it is covid times but it would be nice if someone responded to let me know what the situation is (i.e. currently closed or not taking clients right now). I find it to be extremely unprofessional and frustrating that a small business would not do a better job in being responsive.

If you want to get in shape with strength training this is your place. Knowledgeable trainers and the offer a variety of class times. They also have room to workout and social distance.

So, a lot can change in a year. We all know this, we’ve all experienced it (2020, am I right?), and we all constantly remind ourselves of it, but we often never act on it. Don’t deny it, you always have this idea of “when I get to it” or “I’ll get to it soon” and most times we don’t. Be it calling a friend, creating a boundary, applying for a job, etc.. we are in this constant flux of “what if.” I myself was in a constant state of “I’ll be happy when,” or “I’ll feel better about myself when...” and I never did anything about it; I just waited around for some biblical miracle to happen, which I knew never would. That’s the thing about being unhappy; you can tell yourself all the reasons why you feel unhappy but then you find yourself struggling to find ways to deal with it. It’s crippling, which in turn creates comfort. This is not the kind of comfort you should be okay with, it in fact is the kind that is most problematic for the exact issue at hand; being unhappy. It really messes with your head.A little over a year ago (closer to a year and a half ago) a friend of mine, Ashleigh, joined a gym called Diablo Barbell (@diablobarbell) and couldn’t stop talking about it. I mean, COULD NOT STOP TALKING ABOUT IT. To the point I had thought she had gotten caught up in some sort of weird weight lifting cult and, honestly, thought she had lost it. The thing was, she was seeing results. She was making choices that were conducive to her overall well being and physical health; she wasn’t wrong to be proud of what she had accomplished. She, in fact, did not join a cult (just so everyone at this point knows). She often told me to come try a class with her, and at one point offered to to comp me one of her classes just so I could see what it was all about. I took the bait. I thought, “okay, I’ll go just so she will stop telling me how great it was,” and was remarkably put in my place in regard to my perspective of what she had signed up for. I LOVED IT! It was fun, it was challenging, there were great coaches (which are all still great, just incase that wasn’t clear); all of which I desperately needed at the time despite my not really knowing it. I signed up that day, I was hooked.Fast forward to a year from that moment, exactly one year today, and let’s take a look. I’ve successfully lost 35 lbs (most of which was fat, not muscle), I’ve started training to get my certification in personal training so I can help others as well as bring a better understanding of the body to my students, I have a better outlook on my day to day mental health and outlook towards life, I have found something new that I feel pretty good at doing, it makes me happy, I’ve met some amazing new friends, and I’ve realized that life really is what you make of it. That’s not to say that everyday is rainbows and butterflies, but when those “rainy days and Mondays” come around, I have the tools, the skills, and the community to look at it with a perspective that keeps me from losing sight of the bigger picture.I’ve, truly, started to learn that I can be in control of my happiness. Fully grasping the idea that I could actually do something about my situation was something I hadn’t really every believed I could do. I gave it a year, it worked. Patience, trust, dedication, and some really good lifting shoes, were all I needed at this point. This post isn’t only a shameless plug for my gym (seriously, check them out @diablobarbell), but a testament to the fact that “what ifs” and the “it will work when...”’s are literally the BIGGEST thing holding you back. Just F#**ing do it. Seriously, just go. Get up, go outside (wear a mask please), and do it. I’m quite proud of myself and I am so grateful to the people who have helped me in this adventure of weights, sweat, sore muscles, and at times frustration. If this last year is any indication of what is possible then 34 will be even better, pandemic be damned.

This place is pure magic. I have struggled with back injuries/pain for years, and after many years of just putting a bandaid on the issue, I came to Diablo and found an actual solution to the problem. I have gone through their back rehab, body comp, and am now on the powerlifting team. To walking in with chronic back pain with little relief or answers from doctors, to now squatting 400lbs is just unbelievable. With so much knowledge and experience, they really are gift for someone with any type of goal. Whether it be living your life without pain, weight loss or better composition, or higher strength goals. Literally the best decision I’ve ever made for myself.

Dr. Vitz is amazing. She is a talented practitioner that listens to you and SEES your body and figures out what routines, adjustments and exercises YOUR body needs. She recognises the individual needs of the athlete and comes up with a holistic approach to balance your fitness, including nutritional needs.I’ve seen Dr. Vitz a few times for chiropractic and always left with an easier, expanded feeling in my body, tightness and contracting loosened or freed. Most recently Dr. Vitz consulted with me online to hone my workout routines (my biceps were gaining asymmetrically and I felt additional soreness and vascularity on my weaker arm) and to assess my diet. She watched on cam and instructed me in various exercises to add to my routine. These exercises prepared my body for an adjustment! She instructed me where to place my hand on my arm, then guided me on how to move my arm. It blew me away! She gave me an adjustment through Zoom!Diablo Barbell may be a "power lifting" facility, but Dr. Vitz and her staff can help any athlete. I'm not her only distance runner. Whether you've hit a snag, a plateau or just want to improve, Dr. V and staff are there for you.Dr. Vitz is very talented. I can’t recommend her or Diablo Barbell highly enough. This is the training and care your body needs.

Diablo Barbell is fantastic. There is no way to commit to it and not get stronger. I decided to stop trying to fit it into my life and rather fit my life into it. Suddenly everything changed. During shelter in place I got fitter and stronger doing zoom workouts and then the hiking program opened up and I jumped on the chance. Jenn M has done more than just change my life for the better. She has given me a life. I am also doing the other workouts but the hiking has pushed me in ways I did not know I was capable of accomplishing. I went to the doctor and my blood pressure and pulse rates are that of an athlete. I recover fast from the therapeutic value of the trail. I've learned breathing techniques and how to run properly. I got to pull a truck, three times!! There are three different workouts a week, each one with new challenges. Jenn M is more than a fitness coach. She has her eye closely on nutrition and adjusts it as necessary. I have lost at least 21 inches since the end of May while re-compositioning my body into a shape I can be proud of. She is also coaching my Mother and before my eyes I am seeing her become strong and fit. I have learned how to eat, how to cook, how to wake up, how to keep pushing, how to go for something that seems impossible. I've learned patience and being ok being bad at something in order to learn a new skill. I have never had anyone believe in my the way Jenn does and it makes me feel like I can do anything. The trail program is rucking awesome.

Diablo is life changing, I came to diablo to learn to lift but what I found was so much more, I found an environment of teachers who want to teach not only strength training skills but also life skills. How to live in harmony with my goals and how to achieve those goals through the art of living. I found that Diablo has not only made me more fit but also improved the overall quality of my life in a profound transformative way. We are so fortunate to have mentors like Ted in our community and I highly recommend taking advantage of what Diablo has to offer because it will make you stronger in ways you hadn't ever imagined possible.
