A wonderful group of self righteous women that could not properly handle my dog and because of them she developed cauliflower ear and needs surgery. Definitely not animal lovers no matter how much they’ve convinced themselves of that. It’s sad this is who the local government officials chose to work with. I think it’s time the elected officials should reconsider their choice

Terrible service. Walked in looking to adopt a dog. Went on the website and viewed all the dogs they had and had one in mind to see. Upon arrival the very rude lady at the front told me we needed to make a 200$ appointment online with a virtual home check. How do they find these animals homes with terrible service and complete unavailability to come see their pets. Worst shelter I have been to. Hire some new staff!

This is one of the best organized and run Animal Care Facility in the country and should be an example for all shelters. The dogs each have separate rooms, NOT Cages, with windows for fresh air and a view! They have daily outdoor playtime in the fenced play yards and are walked at least twice a day. They are socialized so well that, when they are considered by a family to adopt, they are happy and well behaved and present beautifully. I know many people who have adopted from PAWS of Coronado and are very pleased with their new family members. The cats have large rooms, again no cages, with ladders and towers for climbing, and lots of toys. They are handled many times a day by a wonderful group of volunteers who socialize them and get them ready to fit right into their new adoptive homes. They are driven around the Landing in baby Prams so that they are available to be seen by potential adopters. If you are looking for a great new family member to adopt, call for KAREN DWINELL, the outstanding adoption coordinator. Pets bring so much joy into our lives and rescued ones bring even more!!

Best facility for dogs, cats and rabbits without parents. You can register to walk the dogs. The people who work here are friendly and very knowledgeable.

I can't say enough good things about PAWS! They made my adoption process so amazing as a first time pet-owner. I moved down to San Diego from Northern California three weeks ago and was looking to adopt a cat to be my full-time companion as my partner works long shifts at the hospital and I WFH. PAWS was only the second shelter we visited and the difference in atmosphere at PAWS vs. the first shelter we visited was like night and day! When we visited, I was able to play with the cats in their sanctuary. I enjoyed playing with the cats but was still waiting to feel that true connection to one. The extremely nice manager let me know there was a cat that had just arrived to the shelter the night before. She took us to his crate where I met "Tailor" and immediately fell in love. My partner and I were head over heels for this cat and ready start the adoption process! The manager let us know that "Tailor" wasn't up for adoption for at least 3 days to allow time for "Tailor's" potential owner to come get him. The manager was extremely helpful and took down my information letting me know that if no one claims him after that 3-day period, the adoption coordinator would reach out to me.On the way home from the shelter I filled out an application and anxiously waited for an email response. On day 3 I got an email from Amy saying after many many calls trying to reconnect "Tailor" with his owner, we were the first ones in line to adopt this special cat!!!The next day I picked up my handsome kitty and took him back to his fur-ever home. Thank you to ALL of the sweet employees at PAWS of Coronado for not only the most amazing cat in the world, but for being so sweet to me and providing such a special experience to my partner and I. Two of the employees even went to the sanctuary to say goodbye to "Tailor" and let me know that in just the 3 days he had been there, he'd been the sweetest kitty ever!!!"Tailor" is now our sweet Chowder and we are so in love with him. I've since recommended many of my friends to PAWS and hope that if you're reading this, you have the same experience as I did.

Been there once but not sure I'm going adopt from them I think I'll adopt at the Humane Society. One thing that's always strikes me in these reviews is how many people's grammar is so incredibly incorrect and can't even spell the most basic off words.

I'm sure they do wonderful things. Unfortunately, they couldn't be bothered to respond to emails, reaching out etc, which is unacceptably unprofessional. Apparently not really different from what one reads online re adoption process problems elsewhere. Too bad, it's the precious animals that stand to suffer needlessly.

Pretty much impossible to adopt a pet from this place. Customer service could be better.

This place truly cares about the health of their animals and puts the SD humane society to shame! All of the pets I've seen here have been healthy and look far happier than the alternative shelters. Would 100% adopt here again

Me and my grandson lives in coronado close to paws ,we bought a dog from a person who advertised in a group on Facebook , the dog breed was Pomeranian whom we were very interested to own one, so we called the owners right away and we went and picked up a beautiful little dog we fall in love with him right a way, after a day or two we contacted Paws so they can give him all his shots de warm and neuter him and after the owner of Paws told us that after we finish vaccinating him she will put him for adoption and she will contact us first to go adopt him back, next day the owner said that Rio the dog was sick and he needs to be treated for a month or more and when he gets better she will contact us , after a month and a half I called the owner of Paws to see if he is back so we can pick him up, she told us that he was adopted by the foster family whom he staid with for his treatment , we we’re miss led and we’re giving wrong information because she gave us wrong information and did not inform us from the beginning that he might be adopted by the foster family who treated him and was giving to them instead of treating him in one of their rehabs , if she told us from the beginning and after we found out he was sick we could treated him our selves. When I texted her today she was very Rode and she gave us wrong information ,I would not recommend anybody to foster or adopt from Paws because the owner was (Diss honest) and made us loose our dog intentionally .

Possibly the worst run rescue I have ever seen. The place is virtually empty, still staff is irritated and overwhelmed somehow. I should have known given all the negative reviews; do yourself a favor and go to one of the many other rescues in San Diego that actually care about animal welfare And are grateful for your interest.

I read a few of the reviews here so I wanted to put mine in to add to the perspective. I understand that some people are upset that they didn't get the pet that they wanted because it wasn't a good fit. Potential owners should understand that the people who run the shelter are just doing their jobs. They want to ensure that the pets are going to live in their forever homes. It makes zero sense if a pet is adopted and shortly after the pet is brought back because it wasn't a good fit. It's not fair to the pet so they're saving them from being put in a home that isn't going to work. That being said, I wanted to say how much I appreciate the care and assistance that I received when adopting Cloud and Windy (now Bentley and Gracie) who are two wonderful kittens that are a bonded pair. I was looking for a couple of kittens just like this so it worked out very well. They're settling in to their new home, adjusting very well, getting in lots of play time and I'm doing my best to keep their food and water bowls filled. Thanks go out to Erin who was helping out as she did a great job with getting everything in order with the adoption paperwork and paying the fee. I really like the fact that they're not charging a *huge* sum of money, some of the other organizations/facilities here in town are charging anywhere from $150 to $250 for an adoption. I can see how someone might take advantage of this and try to make profit which is pretty horrible to say the least. So, to wrap this up, I think that Paws of Coronado is doing an outstanding job during this time of Covid and hope that others will be able to adopt a pet in the near future. Thanks again. Cheers! Matt

Wow...reading the latest reviews I can see some things never change. So many entitled potential adopters who are super salty because the animal they wanted wasn't deemed to be a good fit for them feeling the need to rush over to Yelp to tell on themselves. They just HAVE to show the world how right PAWS was for not giving them an animal. Guess what? If you aren't a complete narcissist and you care about animals, you won't have a problem getting matched with a pet. It might take some time, but you will. Also what's up with a woman being mad because the staff had to go eat lunch?! That's crazy! The audacity to even suggest that it's rude to ask people to leave so the staff can lock up for their earned lunch hour is staggering... Anyone complaining about their child crying because they couldn't get the cat they wanted... how about you try making this a teachable moment? In life places don't always give you what you want, and here they deny things for good reason. You're children sound far too immature to have a pet frankly. They certainly shouldn't be at the helm of any decision regarding them. These animals are actually lives who unique needs need to be considered. Gah! PAWS staff and volunteers put A LOT of work in matching adopters with animals that are right for them. You would be shocked by how many of these same entitled nitwits end up returning animals because it wasn't the fit they expected ... it hurts the animals a lot and makes it more difficult getting them settled in with another family. Returns are on the rise because a lot of these chuckleheads went out and adopted animals during the COVID lockdowns without putting ANY thought into how much responsibility it is to care for an animal... just unbelievable!!! So if you are a self important idiot who can't appreciate the work these individuals put in to ensure animals are placed in their best possible scenarios, then you should go somewhere with lower standards. Wayyyyyy lower standards. Then you might just have a chance. I am thankful for the good work that they do at PAWS. I am grateful they gave me my beautiful love Sophia, and I'm grateful that when she passed away they blessed me with my beautiful Cleo. In fact they saved Cleo's life because she needed immediate surgery and was near death when they found her and took her in. She barely made it and her life was saved because PAWS are that good at ensuring animals have the best care they can provide. PAWS made it possible for Cleo to be peacefully sleeping on my belly as I type this right now. But yeah dummies, tell us all how PAWS doesn't care about their animals and how much better of a job you and your feral children would do if you ran it. So stupid... just ridiculously stupid. PS Bet you none of these audacious creeps EVER volunteer at shelters or even round up their change to help animals in need.

Truly disappointing, I would give it no stars if I had a chance. My family and I just moved and were in search of a dog. We found a beautiful younger wired haired terrier in need of a home and immediately jumped on. After contacting Paws we were told that the dog was still available and we can come check him out. Today my parents went to go look at him in the morning. HE WAS THE BEST!!! We immediately fell in love with him more than we loved him in pictures. He was very energetic and super smart. We were told that the dog would be ours and the other applications would be thrown away. This evening we get an email that the dog needs to put under behavioral training and they were no longer interested in looking for a new home for him. This is seriously so screwed up, why would bother to play with our emotions. They knew that we were ready for the challenge, WE KNEW WHAT WE WERE GETTING OURSELVES INTO. We knew he needed training because his is still a young dog. We even said we would pay for professional training but they said no. We just don't get why they don't want a loving sweet family to expand. Let me know if this has happened to you!
