I used to LOVE this credit union and I would tell everybody that I knew to sign up with it but after what has happened to me, I wouldn't recommend it to anybody. Here's a backstory: When I was 25, I bought my first car. I had a hard time getting a loan from anybody even though my credit score was a near-perfect 800 because of my age and my lack of credit history. But credit union of Southern California always came through for me... They approved me for not only a car loan, but, two years later, a line of credit. To show my appreciation, I was NEVER delinquent on ANY payment, I made sure of that. I had Covid this January and wasn't able to make my line of credit payment (my first missed payment in 3 years with them). Now I have completely lost access to my line of credit because I missed ONE payment. Today, they closed my $10,000 line of credit without any warning. At the time, I figured I would make the payment the next month. So I waited until 3 February to pay it. That ended up being a big mistake. It happened to be a Saturday on a holiday weekend. For some reason, they locked me out of my account in-app and on my desktop, completely from all of my accounts (checking, savings, etc). So I wasn't able to pay. I later learned this was because apparently it was past 30 days so they completely lock you out of everything when this happens (thank god this isn't my main bank--can you imagine??). I literally was trying to pay on day 31 (the due date). Why have a due date at all if you're going to lock people out? Once I paid it as soon as they opened, I had access to my all my accounts again. My line of credit was NOT available--oddly, it was showing a NEGATIVE balance in my account. I had a sizable amount left to spend so this struck me as odd. I called to ask why this was and they said there was a glitch in the system and that they would make sure that I had access to my funds by the end of that day. Two days later, I noticed that the available balance is still negative. Confused, I called corporate. Suddenly I am told that my line of credit has been completely closed. No glitch, no app problem. My line of credit was CLOSED. Now, I've had my car with these people and I've paid them on time for it for the last three years every single month. I have also paid all of my line of credit payments minus the one when I had Covid. When I opened my line of credit for $10,000, I paid on time monthly as well for the year I had it. I took this to a higher up on the phone and they said there was nothing they could do. They told me the only thing I can do is to apply for a new line of credit, and pay this one off, which is ridiculous. Are you serious?? Not only that, but when I was bumped up to a higher person, she gave me an attitude and acted like I was stupid for being in the situation in the first place. I apologized for missing the Jan payment due to Covid and told her I tried to pay the overdue amount, but I got locked out of my own account, and when I tried to call about it, I couldn't because it was a holiday weekend. I didn't think this was a big deal because 99% of credit card companies wouldn't lock me out after 30 days necessarily, they let you pay everything at the next payment. I honestly figured it was a temporary glitch on the credit unions part. I asked her why nobody told me about this possibility when I called twice originally to inquire, and she said that they are a bunch of new hires who make mistakes. She told me that they had supposedly called me and sent me letters to let me know about losing my LOC, but I can tell you I never got a phone call from them or a text or a letter. You're telling me that they supposedly were calling me to warn me about this when they didn't even tell me when I was on the phone with them? I'm a millennial. I check my phone frequently. Wouldn't they have left a message? I looked back to double-check and there was no call log of them and no message to be found. Absolutely no warning emails. Then I asked why wasn't

I love these guys. My friend hooked me up with this bank and I'm grateful she did. Best customer service I've ever had banking. They have helped me to understand how to handle and utilize my money which I had almost zero idea what to do with. The best bank I've ever had the pleasure of doing business with.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO BORROW ANY AMOUNT OF MONEY FROM THIS CREDIT UNION.Edit: I wanted to add they added an addionational monthly charge without my permission for loan protection. Now I have to write a letter asking them to cancel it. I wish I could give 0 stars.I went to this branch for a small auto loan. The people at the branch were overall very nice and normal. But the loan department that I was sent to was literally a nightmare. They didn’t return my calls for an entire week.I will never, ever, bank or borrow money from these people ever again. I am actively discouraging people I know from doing any kind of business here.I was point blank lied to regarding the auto insurance minimum requirement, and now I’m on the hook to pay to increase it. Do NOT risk doing business here. There are other credit unions.

I wrote a review in Yelp as well. I took scene shots so they do not try to delete them. Over all, their lending department is not equipped to follow through (especially Melanie).

I am a HUGE credit union advocate, I helped my daughter establish her first credit card because of the low rates and reputable institution. When we opened her account, my daughter was ecstatic to finally have her own account with a credit union. Fast forward, I helped her apply for her fist auto loan. Auto loan was approved! My daughter was over the moon, she was finally doing adult finances. I was deeply disappointed and saddened that her credit union let her down and ruined her fist auto buying experience. Her loan was approved, a week passed and no one called to congratulate her or inform her of rate documents needed for her to fund the loan. My daughter had to go to the branch, I had to tell her what she needed so we can expedite the process. The rep at the branch who assisted her did her best but still was unable to help her, she was told that Melanie from the lending department was only person overseeing her loan. I spoke to the rep at the branch, expressed my frustration. I vented how we had to do the leg work for them, how was it that no one could assist my daughter. My daughter left, rep assured my daughter that Melanie would call her. Two days have passed and still call from anyone. I can not comprehend how no one can reach out and have the decency to apologize. If you apply here, please be advised that apparently they are short staffed. You will need to do landing's job, you will not be called or be kept informed of your loan status and funding will take a long time to fund. If your loan officer/founder is a lady named Melanie ask for someone else or be ready to be in the dark. Sincerely a very let down credit union advocate

If I could rate this bank zero stars I would. my Father passed away in February I am the beneficiary and trying to settle some of his debt. They have denied every external transfer to my fathers other accounts. Then had the nerve to email me saying to sign into online banking to review your secure message, yeah how Am I supposed to do that when your d*** asses disabled the account entirely and now locked out. oh And how is it batch processing when it's from a single account to another and the person named on the receiving end is the same person sending it?..you guys are the stupidest bank ever. What do you want my damn DNA to prove legitimacy. why my father had you as a bank is beyond me. He must of put up with a lot of s**** Unfortunately for you I WILL NOT.

This is the worst bank I have ever been into. I used their atm, not a member, it crashed. The money was taken out of my bank. I needed the cash ASAP, but Brian, Costa Mesa location, told me that it wasn't his problem, it was mine. He told me to call my bank and have them refund the money. I was having trouble with my phone and my friend really needed the money. I told him that I was new to the area and looking to join a bank, and I would join if he would refund my cash. He said he could not. I later called customer service and gave them a chance to do the right thing. They did not!!! Do not join this bank. They do not care about you, only your money. Join a federal credit union. Big difference!!!

My husband and I were in a serious pinch and Bill was extremely helpful and very patient. He worked with our other bank and helped us find a solution after almost 45 minutes of talking with our bank, phone holds, fax’s, emails, etc. Very thankful they were open today!

RUDE. I came on Christmas Eve four minutes past 1 pm, when they apparently closed (not to say that this was indicated online, their mobile app, or anywhere but the front door which was hidden amongst the signs for face coverings, etc). They were still helping a customer inside and wouldn't even have wave to acknowledge me standing at the front door. My transaction would not work at the ATM otherwise I would have used it. Can't believe the lack of customer service and Christmas spirit.

Credit Union of Southern California is where I went to join and be a part of their family. I have never had an account with a Credit Union before but I will say that the personable feeling I was welcomed with by Karen P made my day, and I left there feeling like I really belong now. Should you ever have to choose a Credit Union well then Credit Union of Southern California should be where you too will feel like family... Awesome knowledge was explained to me by Karen P. who is definitely a huge asset to her company . Thank you as well to Bill S. who welcomed me right before I was about to leave !!!
