This place was great value and super yummy! The nigiri sushi and rolls are really good (preferred over sashimi) and same with the robata. Staff and atmosphere are nice too. Plus it’s mostly Asians dining so you know it’s legit :)

Had dinner last night and have to say… the meal was very good, everything that we expected as a first time diner was met. Living in Napa ( and dining in San Francisco) and experiencing quality food and service our expectations are high and we thoroughly enjoyed the meal. the service was excellent as well, different staff continuously checked on us, everyone was extremely pleasant….and the place was completely filled ( read reviews re the noise, loud but you could certainly carry on a conversation)Overall I’m giving this place 2 ? up…..PS the bottle of sake was excellent also….

Hachi is outstanding. They have excellent authentic Japanese food with great service and a nice atmosphere. They are always in the running for the best Izakaya in OC, and our go to spot for celebrations and social gatherings meant to impress.

I tried Izakaya Hachi a couple nights ago.. The atmosphere was very nice. The table areas were clean and set very nicely. The staff was pleasant but it was hard to figure out who was waiting which areas and who to contact if you needed something. I ordered a seared tuna dish that was very tasty. However, I was surprised to see the main sushi chef working with teh raw fish and raw meat his bear hands, then touching the refrigerator handle, wiping things off the counter to and then handling the raw ingredients again. The portions were VERY small for the price. I ordered an additional roll which was tasty but very small. He scooped the rice with his bear hands and handled the raw fish again. It seemed like a high-end Japanese want-to-be. I probably will not be back. Hope this is constructive so you can make appropriate changes. Good luck.

Hachi Izakaya was a tad loud, but I guess the restaurant cannot be faulted for that. Seating was western style. We brought a bottle of Kubota Manju, which they do not sell there. Their corkage fee was $30 which is normal. They did make up for the loud ambiance (some patrons were literally screaming) with their food. Hachi Izakaya has a special emphasis on charbroiled dishes as well as their sushi/sashimi which were both delightful. We had to wait a bit for the bill but after all the service was a good 4. This is the second time I went there and their food and service was consistently good both times. Not cheap but well worth it in my opinion.

overpriced considering the size/amount of each dish. Female hostess/waitress is rude. Our waiter was the only positive. For 3 people, we were billed over $300. We went to Burger King afterwards as we were still hungry. Do not recommend.

The worst quality salmon I've ever had! Best not to order the raw food there. When we sent it back. 8( felt like we were being rushed out. Tasty chicken wings. Gobo chips used to taste better. Now it tastes like it was fried hours ago and just left sitting there.

One of my most favorite Japanese restaurants. Very decent delicious food, beef intestine, pork hotpot and beef tongue are my must order dishes. But the changes hand pull noodle in hotpot set to regular yellow ramen this year, I loved the old style noodle way much

Great atmosphere to drink a pitcher or Sapporo while taking in some eats. Chefs are focused on their tasks and wait staff knew when to ask and when to leave us be.

Was truly excited to try all the dishes on the menu! There were five of us for dinner and the kitchen was able to make five skewers for every skewer dish we got. The dishes were paced well allowed us to enjoy the flavors and textures of each item.Quiet enough for dates, post work meals and family gatherings.I enjoyed every dish especially the motsu nabe (very tender pieces of intestines with ramen and vegetables in a mildly spicy broth). The pork sausage dish was so delicious: good snap on the sausage and perfectly paired with pickled onions and sweet grain mustard. Next time I'm not sharing!I did not snap photos of all the food we got either : rolled sushi of yellowtail and tuna, pressed saba or mackerel sushi; the uni in avocado was also interesting but I can't enjoy avocado too much ( slight allergies to it); edamame of course was perfectly green and salted.Table service was attentive but there was a slight miscommunication and a few orders came later than we expected- probably because we got half of the menu tonight! The tofu "flan" was a new item and we all thought it was too from and had too much of yuzu but it was also a new item so some tweaking might be needed.Bathrooms were clean but that sink design is not done well - my fingertips could barely get washed - the sink is either too far or the faucet too low.

Thought of this place when Kin Izakaya was full on a Saturday night and didn't want to wait in line for shin sen gumi so we head to Hachi again since my last visit was a year ago.For my party of 10 (half of them were kids) we had great dinner with great food & service. The premium sashimi platter was a bit pricy IMO (vivid memory of $32 ish per order and minimum 2 orders) which consisted of 8 different fishes/shellfish. We ordered it anyways and it definitely was worth the price tag but not something I would order every visit. We ordered quite a few of grilled items/yakitoris- squid, beef tongue, shrimp, ribeye etc. and all were pretty good! Other dishes such as fried corn, fried burdock, udons were all very satisfying! The staffs were attentive & accommodating and were all very courteous So why the 4 stars? The food could came out very slow as the server mentioned another big party ahead of us ordered a lot dishes fromThe sushi bar. We will definitely return to Hachi again and hopefully we'll have a perfect dining experience the next visit!

The food was tasty and the service was great. This location was a bit loud and hard to hear others at.

The food here is great. The atmosphere is lively and good for just casual dining or small group gatherings. The service is overall good except for one lady server with short hair! We asked her for one picture and she said "I'm too busy"! So we spend over $500 in bills but she's too busy for us for 1 picture? It would have taken 10 seconds off her precious time! Anyhow, overall, we still had a good time!

Came here for dinner on a Saturday night after the OC Japan Fair. Made reservations through OpenTable. We ordered motsunabe, Yakitori skewers, beef tongue, and salad. The octopus and radish salad and motsunabe are recommended. The Yakitori skewers and beef tongue were overcooked and disappointing. The service was excellent and the restaurant has nice interior. But it's very noisy and hard to have a nice conversation. The food at their Torrance location is better especially the grilled food. The parking at this shopping center is difficult as half the lot is reserved for stupid valet parking. So show up early to get your parking spot.
