I'm sorry to say that I'm not very impressed at all with this bank. My loans were bought by this bank, and I'm sorry that happened because my previous bank had far better services. $25 to make a loan payment by phone? Really? And they don't offer online payments of loans - be nice to work with a company that was in the 21st Century. Also, inadvertently charging fees that aren't correct - isn't that what payday loan companies do? I'm always early with my payments, have never missed a payment, and pay more than is due. I have also notified the original company I did my loans with that if they are to ever want my business again, they would have to guarantee that my loans would NEVER be sold to this bank.

Awesome Bank! Excellent customer service, excellent commercial loan process - the easiest we've EVER had. What a refreshing experience after the horrible relationship we had for years at Kinecta FCU . (Run from the flakes at Kinecta.) PMB has great online banking, courteous help over the phone with the internet banking department -Andrew, Corina, and Derek - have all been helpful, ALL staff has been pleasant to deal with. Cannot say enough about this bank and Robert Selway, the best in the business! Highly recommend! Professionalism from beginning, to end. I cannot leave out others who were part of making our transition so smooth: Geri Hidalgo, our amazing loan assistant, Barbara Mac Dermot, Cathy Tran, Fiona Kristy, and Hau-Ling Wong thank you all for your time, hard work, and royal treatment. We feel privileged to be able to work with you all and look forward to many years of a great banking relationship. Robert, I wish I had a picture shaking your hand when we finalized the last loan, to post here. You rocked it!

I'm a realtor in southern Ca. I have been in the business for 14 years. I survived the housing market crash and now see things turning for the better...with the exception of PM Bank! If you are in the market to buy, do NOT go thru PM Bank in Costa Mesa!!! I had a client that owned a property free and clear and was interested in pulling money out to purchase an investment property with plenty of potential upside to it. PM Bank appraised their property (which they owned free and clear) for $70,000 less than its true worth. They also used comps dating back 18 months and on top of that, used homes over 1,000 square feet LESS than the subject property! On top of that, their fee went from $450 to $600 and STILL charged my clients. At the time of their doc signing, we offered to bring the clients to their office in order to keep the docs in house to help expedite the transaction, and it still took PM Bank an additional 7 DAYS TO FUND! They had one underwriting condition requested, which was sent in and it took them 3 days to review it because being "back-logged." No...it was because the Feds shut down their Wholesale Division and they quickly worked to make their money on other loans while putting A+ Borrowers like my clients on the back-burner. To make a long story short, a simple 3-week re-finance ended up taking 2 1/2 months to fund! If you are reading any positive reviews about this bank, please disregard them. This bank is the worst and I would never recommend my worst enemy to this institution because of its lack of competance! Sal C.

My experience was the same as all these other negative reviews. In fact we never closed the loan with this bank. Three weeks after we were suppose to close the buyers decided to pay cash for the property because the lender would not perform and the Seller was going to cancel. When I called they were always on vacation, in a meeting or just didn't pick up the phones at all. They did not care about contract dates. At contracted closing, they had not even done the appraisal! Be wise and run!

THIS BANK IS A COMPLETE JOKE! They are very unorganized and no one in the organization seems to know what they are doing. Throughout the loan process I was contacted by various people requesting the same documents. Their loan processing "team" is so incompetent. At one point, I had 3 people requesting the exact same document. When I explained that I sent the document to their colleague they didn't care. They wanted me to send it again! Nevermind the countless credit checks they ran that only hurt my credit score. (so unnecessary) Their service is so awful I finally asked to speak to the "supervisor" and they gladly told me to contact the VP in charge of loan processing. The smirk should have been a dead giveaway. But this falls under the category of be careful of what you wish for. The VP is never in the office. He is out playing golf. All you get is a voicemail that is usually full. If you're lucky to leave a message it's a joke because he never returns your call. When I finally called back to resolve the issue with the loan processor. She told me that she won't get involved because "it's now on the VP's desk". Buyer beware if you choose to do business with this bank!

Horrific experience and my escrow dragged on for 3 months on a traditional purchase that should have closed in 30 days!!! We were qualified buyers and eventually did close but it was an absolute nightmare! I wouldn't wish my experience on anyone!

I have heard so many horror stories about lenders taking advantage of poor, ignorant folks that fell victim to the "slick" sales pitch given to them by their loan rep. Well, truth be told, and as much as I hate to admit it, there are some bad apples out there, as there are in just about any industry. It just so happens that the biggest investment in a person's life is buying a home, so it goes to reason that there would be some serious anxiety and panic during the home-buying process. A bank is as good as the people that work for it, and I have found that no matter what institution you look into, you will find a blend of terrible reviews mixed with high praises. Typically, that comes down to the individual(s) the customers worked with during the transaction. Having read the previous review, it appears to me that the person "Mark," who assisted these folks, most likely wasn't upfront and doing his job in a professional and courteous manner. There could also be a number of things that occurred that were out of the loan reps control, for example: issues with the appraisal, problems with the borrowers credit, delays with escrow and so on... Having dealt with Pacific Mercantile Bank on numerous occasions, I found the level of service provided to be exemplary, and I would go above and beyond to recommend my loan agent to anyone. So if you're reading this and just so happen to be in the market for a new home, send me a message and I will be more than happy to refer you over to a "good apple," who will take great care of you and offer the most attentive and professional service available in the lending industry.

If you are ever shopping around for a home loan and the people from the Costa Mesa branch of Pacific Mercantile Bank are one of your options, DON"T do business with them. We initially thought that we had our loan docs approved but a few days prior to close of escrow, the bank decided not to fund the loan. We were scrambling to find another bank and that is where Pacific Mercantile Bank stepped in. We figured, wow, what luck. We were WRONG. The bank knew what kind of situation we were in (ie we were getting antsy and just wanted to move in into our dream home and just moved out of our apartment) and used it to their full advantage. We actually had to stay with our inlaws for a month and a half while we got our loan situation straigtned out. The good faith estimate that was originally sent to us and signed by us was just that, AN ESTIMATE! When it came time to close, we saw so many added fees and other descrepencies that just didn't add up. They said that they would waive the appraisal of the home since it was already appraised. Didn't happen. Additionally, the fees that they originally quoted somehow were increased and other fees were tacked on. In retrospect, in prinicipal, we really should have just walked away from the loan and started from scratch and not have the bank charge us an additional $2500 from the estimate. But after going through what we went through, we said, the hell with it and bit the bullet. We love our home but we definitely would not recommend this bank to anyone!! Our loan rep, Mark, was a VERY slick salesman and made assurances that their was no problems with our loan and that everything would close on time, yada yada yada. Nope! We closed 3 days later than what the date should have been. He was not very forthcoming and never really was good at returning phone calls! Overall, this bank is just awful and I would NEVER EVER recommend this bank to anyone!!!
