This update is not about vets or staff. It's directed at the Mars corporation that bought up many of the clinics to the detriment of local vet care. I left VCA last year due to rising costs and their unavailability. When the owner of Animal Hosp. of Cotati sold to Mars, I knew things wouldn't go well due to corporate boards and shareholders wanting more money. I moved on to a vet-owned clinic where I can get appointments within a reasonable time. With VCA, if you have an urgent need, they refer you to their ER in Rohnert Park. Wouldn't surprise me if the excuse of being short-staffed is calculated to increase profit.

It is sad that this Veterinary Office will no longer be getting my business. The staff can not do anything without the ONE doctor being on premises (Not even give an allergy shot to a pet that has received It for years). Per the staff, two doctors have retired and one has left. This one remaining doctor, provides NO same day appointments for animals who have been coming there since they were puppies and now are in their twilight years. This facility has not made any arrangements for other vet hospitals to help out- staff with their understaffing issues. I was told if I saw another vet I would have to pay for pre-exam. Disgraceful.Do yourself a favor and find a veterinarian office who has more than one doctor. I did and they took care of my pets needs within minutes.

They are not accepting any more pets as clients even if you have brought your pets to them for years and years in the past. Very, very disappointing.

My German Shepherd had an infection on her genital area and the vet at VCA Cotati tried to use some wipes to clean her with, but she said that the area was so swollen and sore, she really couldn't clean her properly. They sent us home with some of the wipes and a prescription of antibiotics. They told us to really try to clean her with those wipes which, by the way, contained alcohol! No wonder my poor dog couldn't handle the cleaning. After three weeks of trying to clean her with feminine wipes, we went back to this vet and again she just gave us more of the wipes and some powder to put on the area. I was completely fed up and disappointed that this vet didn't even work with my dog enough to clean the area and make sure she was comfortable. I took her to Banfield in Rohnert Park and the vet, Christie Stone, felt so bad for my poor dog. She sedated her so they were able to completely shave and clean the entire area. Then she gave us some really strong antibiotics and ointment to use on my dog. Within three days my dog was back to being the sweet, happy girl she always was. She was finally so comfortable, and no longer in pain. I will never go back to VCA in Cotati again. The fact that they can send an animal home, who is obviously in so much pain, is horrible. Lesson learned.

We have been coming here since 2011 for care of our beloved cats. A month ago our seven year old kitty was sniffling alot and making a strange snorting sound. We were told it was an upper respiratory infection common in most shelter cats, and we were given antibiotics. This did not fix the problem, so we went back last week. We just could not get a straight answer on what was wrong. Many "options" were presented - like a buffet of procedures without a clear recommendation. Our cat worsened in the coming days and in desperation, we brought her to a different vet. It was not an upper respiratory infection. It was quickly determined that it was something structural in the throat, and the strange snorting was actually her struggling to breathe. She was placed on oxygen and given an x-ray. They were correct. It was structural. An inoperable tumor in the throat. Within an hour, our baby was gone. My partner called VCA to inform them and to cancel the "care club". I received a call from them later in the day that my cat died - to collect the remaining balance from the damned care club - $27.00. I do not fault the manager - she was compassionate and very kind - I fault the policy that required her to call. I am so glad that we listened to our gut and sought alternative care. Had we not brought her to Country Care Animal Clinic (who were above and beyond wonderful) she would have suffocated in front of us within days. This was just tragic all around, and I'm seeking more competent care when we are ready to bring a new kitty home.

Wow! I had the most amazing experience at this pet hospital for my 8 month old baby dog Obi. They were kind, responsive and caring, and the bill wasn’t even as much as I expected for a Sunday Holiday weekend. Staff was so friendly! Highly recommended!!!

I would only go here if it was life or death emergency. Be prepared to part with a s*** ton of $$. I've used every emergency vet from here to Marin County and nobody charges as much as these guys do. Definitely a big business veterinary clinic. That said the quality of the doctors seems to be fairly good.

We started bringing our puppy to Cotati VCA 6 months ago and have had no problem with routine visits when we can make appts. ahead of time. I wasn't aware though, that they really aren't staffed for emergencies even when things come up during office hours (this is not clear from their website where it says to give them a call during office hours). They've refused to see our puppy multiple times due to having no availability and directed us to use the Rohnert Park or Santa Rosa location instead. Our puppy has been dealing with stomach problems for months and last week vomited and had blood in his stool, but when we tried calling them to get advice on these urgent matters, we were told out vet was not in for a week so we would need to speak with a vet tech. We didn't get a call back until 15 mins before they closed and they were not concerned (multiple times prior when we've called for advice on if our puppy needed to be seen, they've neglected to call us back for more than 24 hrs). We ended up taking our puppy to the Santa Rosa VCA location after calling them because they suggested he be seen urgently - turns out was dehydrated and had a high white blood cell count.Although we've enjoyed our routine visits with the kind vets at this location, we've had multiple experiences now where we unfortunately just don't feel like they care and they are unable to make time for our puppy when urgent situations come up.

A lot of lies to cover up there mistakes. A lot Excuses. Very bad clinical environment and business practices. As a Disabled Combat Veteran with a Service Dog. Not a place to take any animal too.

Very difficult to get an appointment, they claim so many people bought puppies during COVID-19, they can't keep up.

Every visit we brought in our puppy or cat they add charges and exams we don't ask for. They don't tell us they're going to do it and slap the bill on you. Also has happened to a close friend of ours and we are tired of the miscommunication.
