“As much as I love the Redwoods, and frequently drive from the PNW to SoCal, I usually skip the attractions in the area because the hotels and towns are so undesirable. Enter the Hiouchi Motel, located right off the highway and amongst the trees. The grounds are thoughtfully maintained and have a nice fire pit and sitting area, as well as some outdoor games. There's plenty of lawn for dogs to sniff and stretch, and yes its a dog friendly hotel, surprisingly rare in that vicinity. The rooms are comfortable and clean, the bed was a full king size and the room was quiet throughout the night. Across the street is a great little market with a good selection of items and fun touristy things too. Note that it closes early, but we had called ahead to the hotel to make sure they were prepared for our late arrival and their friendly staff warned us of that ahead of time so we could stop before being in the secluded area. Finding this place was a giant relief, and a really pleasant surprise. Highly recommend if you need a jumping off point to enjoy the Coastal Redwood region or the nearby Trees of Mystery. There's a yummy, old school restaurant next door that provides discounts to hotel guests. And there is a lot of on site, outdoor parking too.”

“I enjoyed my stay at Curly Redwood Lodge. Friendly owner and safe lodge. The room was nice and I was so grateful for the floor fan. I’d stay here again. Request a 2nd floor room, if it’s available”

“Slightly older resort village hotel rated well by AAA.
rooms were clean with tile floors. Very dog friendly for an extra $25.
I would have preferred a 2nd floor with a beach view but still could see ocean from ground floor. Too bad its was Cloudy foggy and rainy.
Good breakfast with the normal hotel options.

Nearby activities: Redwood National Forest - my bucket list!

Safety: Felt safe in the area

Walkability: Closer to ocean and nearby beaches.

Food and drinks: Close by restaurants but some closed fire to summer season ending

Noteworthy details: Near Redwood National Park.
Amazing sights.”

“The room itself was extremely clean and cozy, and satellite TV and wifi is always appreciated no matter where I'm staying, but the check-in process was a little confusing (and unprofessional, if I'm being blunt); I booked the room late at night after a long day of driving, and when I arrived to check in, the office was closed with a phone number taped to the door. I called the number, and the teller behind the desk informed me that she had just left for lunch at 10 PM, and she would return momentarily. A few minutes had passed before she called me back to inform me that she had staff at the hotel that would check me in and give me my room key; the clerk emerged from behind a door wearing pajama boxers, and I'm almost positive I heard them tell their child to go back to bed from behind the door... I was simply glad to get into my room and lay in bed, but there's no way this would've flown during normal business operation hours.”

“What an absolutely charming little place! The staff are incredibly friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The rooms are a little dated, but my room was clean and ready on time, the water was piping hot, and the place was quiet. The location is right by the harbor, so my room even had a water view which I didn't expect. There is a park right outside where I could enjoy my lunches. Very pleasant stay for the price.”

“We had a good size room for three adults. We were close to the ocean, places to eat, and to the Redwoods. The beds were comfortable and clean. There was good counter space for getting ready for the day. Having a table with chairs was handy. Thank you for an enjoyable stay. People were pleasant and friendly.”

“Everything was great about this Motel 6 in Crescent City CA. Fully lighted parking area, the front counter had a large security monitor that scanned the grounds, Dena the office clerk was friendly & helpful, it was conveniently located across from a pretty park on the coast, near Safeway, Starbucks, local coffee houses, restaurants & the rooms were remodeled & very clean. We were traveling with a pet & they gave us a ground floor for convenience. The only issue was the ice machine was out of service but that wasn’t a big deal. We will stay again & we recommend it to everyone. .”
