The self service checkout is very frustrating to use at times. For many different reasons. The physical design is very poor. Blow it up and try again.

Service is horrible. They are understaffed. The store is packed. I was in line, about to unload all groceries at the cash registry #3. A manager told me to go to line 7 because there was nobody. I left #3 for #7. It was packed. She did it so I can leave the line and close #3. The cashier at #3 left to pack groceries at #5. They like to treat customers like sh*t.

Salty customer experience from Dania.I was not greeted; so, I extended a hello. She would not look at me, And she muttered a hello; def. not courteous.However, the young fellow at the deli counter was courteous.2 Stars because the young guy at the deli counter was courteous; were it not for him, I experienced 1 star treatment.

Apple Pay doesn't seem to work here. And the store cashiers are super rude and unhelpful.Couldn't recommend any less!Zero stars.

The time is 11:55pm (the store closes in 5 min at midnight) I'm only getting a gallon of milk, and the employees part of the closing crew won't even allow me to go inside for a basic necessity (the door was closed so nobody can walk, only letting people out). Is it petty that I'm doing a one star review for this one reason? Absolutely. But regardless I personally feel disrespected given the fact I've been shopping at this store for over 20 years and they won't even give me 5 min to get a gallon of milk

This safeway is interesting. In order for you to exit, you have to scan in your receipt. Hopefully that works

Deli... you have to ask for help... you can stand there at the counter, money in hand....and be totally ignored until you ask for a sandwich to be made.

Their management not capable of fixing their entrance doors like a month! All 4 doors are not working and customers keeps walking to other entrance. This is very annoying!!!

I don't think that the shoppers who fill the delivery orders can read, or care to. I have stated 'NO SUBSTITUTIONS' or DON'T SUBSTITUTE ANYTHING IN THIS ORDER' every time I order delivered groceries from Safeway. And, yet, for the last 4-5 orders, they substitute an out of stock item with something I don't want and, definitely, won't accept. And, so, every time this happens, I need to get a refund for the substituted item and then throw it in the garbage. Today they substituted a CHOCOLATE pie for a cream cheese pie. I had to throw it out as I'm allergic to chocolate. I had to call, get the refund and waste my valuable time dealing with this same problem over and over and over. I don't want a stranger deciding what product to put in my order. what is it about 'DON'T SUBSTITUTE' that they don't understand? I've had this delivery service for many, many years, but, recently, the service has gone totally downhill. Moving on to SHIPT!

For the cashier with tattoos on the neck, also had two pony tails with thanksgiving decoration, I'm sure she is new here. She needs to learn how to be humble on her job before blaming customers for her own mistakes. I did not touch my phone to pay and I told her. But she still sounds like surly I did something when the cashier machine on alert, she asked the manager for help, and the manager proved that I didn't pay by Apple Pay. To this girl who made the mistake - pls learn to accept it's YOUR OWN MISTAKE before blaming anybody else... Happy thanksgiving 2022

At the Westlake Safeway store is amazing. It's good spot to hang out. At the deli department they got the comfortable chair & table at the indoor & outdoor. You could sit back & relax & eat your delicious food & refreshing cold drinks. Plus, They have a great produce department & meat department & bakery department, where you could shop for food & drinks & supplies anytime. Plus, you get to your 10% discount safe club card to buy GOOD stuff. The public restroom is very clean & Safe. The staff is very cool & well respectful. The security guards did a very good keeping the Safeway store very clean & safe environment.!!! Best customer service ever!!! Great Job!!! Also, sometimes it tend to get very busy, especially around CROWDED because it tough free up & when there shopper block your freaking way. Its FRUSTRATED & ANNOYING!!! Due to Holiday Season for sure!!! Plus, Its just my honest opinion & I'm just saying!!! Overall, it's Excellent!!! Well Done!!! Grade: A+ (Excellent)

What is it about this Safeway that attracts so much shoplifting????? Almost every other trip here I see some sort of crime drama. Most recently a girl with a basket full of stuff was on her way to the door - I don't know the whole story but apparently a male accomplice also had a basket but didn't go through the checkstand and was waiting to go out with her at the same time. The guard was wise to her though and tried to stop her from taking the cart - she actually grabbed the disinfectant spray bottle from the self checkout area and started spraying the poor guy. In the end the cart was turned over in the tussle (see photos) and police were called. Its really disgusting what happens here and that thanks to these people that think its ok to get something for nothing. Because of this much of the non-food merchandise is in LOCKED cases now.... Don't get me wrong - this is actually a decent Safeway with a good size and selection - its just a shame what goes on here. They seriously need to consider getting more security here....the single middle aged ones they have now are not enough...

After this Safeway was remodeled a few years ago, it was my main grocery store as everything was new, efficiently run, and their special deals were awesome. I went every week. But for the past 3+ years, there are long waits for everything, especially their deli specials, and now I avoid shopping there at all. They should get zero stars! Today I went in for their fried chicken special and some other grocery items, but there were 30 people waiting in line at 11.15 am, with NO chicken in sight. So instead of wasting time, I DID ALL MY SHOPPING AT TRADER JOE'S! In the past, there was cold fried chicken in the refrigerated section, and more employees dedicated to making sure customers didn't have to wait for more than 10 - 15 minutes. Those days are long gone thanks to whoever is currently managing this particular Safeway. There were definitely enough employees behind the counter - 2 fully dedicated to making sushi for the refrigerated section that was ALREADY FULL. Added note, all the employees working there are usually pleasant and helpful, so they are NOT the problem as the lack of staff is a mgmt issue. I've also had a few problems at other SF Safeways (Diamond Hgts, Noriega, Taraval, etc.), but rarely out of SF (San Bruno, Foster City, Napa). So whoever is the SF/Westlake regional manager is doing a lousy job. Guess I'll just take my business to Lucky's and Trader Joe's.
