They let me back in even though I suck and sometimes the purple belts let me sub them in return for the entertainment my below average white belt skills provide them

I’ve trained at Kaiju for about a year, and it’s been by far my best BJJ experience compared to the other gyms I’ve been to (over another year or so of experience). Everyone is friendly and willing to help out beginners, there’s great coverage of gi and nogi classes on the schedule, and there’s no strong pressure to compete or overcommit. I’ve felt no sense of ego, even from higher belts. I really appreciate that you can wear whatever brand gear you want without having to shell out for academy kit. I’ve also had less frequent and less serious injuries there compared to prior gyms. (Unfortunately some injuries are just a reality of training, but I’ve had no major ones at Kaiju.) Since joining, my BJJ has improved a lot and I’ve made some really good friends. If you’re looking for BJJ in Davis, Kaiju is the place.

Kaiju is a friendly, clean, family-run business that really cares about the customers. The coaches have a lot of patience. It's a great place for kids and seems to be popular with adults too! Prices are comparable to other studios in the area.

Kaiju Jiu Jitsu school in Davis California is one of the filthiest BJJ schools in California. I registered my son for one month; unfortunately, due to poor hygiene, uncleanliness, undisciplined, and health hazard I had to pull my son out of the school. This school is on the verge of Ringworm, Herpes Simplex, Impetigo, and Staph/MRSA outbreak. The self promoted owner “Aaron” who only possesses a “purple belt” is money hungry, uneducated to BJJ, and has no added value to the art of BJJ is not a good role model to the kids and adult athletes.Aaron stabbed my son in the back at the end of kids class stating that “my son had left the school because all the white belts were beating him on the mat”.This untrue statement should widen every reader’s eyes and think twice before enrolling in this school. The leadership of this school lacks personal reliability, integrity, and dignity.

I started looking for a BJJ gym over a year ago. I fell out of my original plan to join Kaiju, and called months later. Without hesitation or question, I was invited back in to come test out a week of free classes. As a small girl, it’s really intimidating to walk into a BJJ gym; I can’t lie. I showed up to a room of huge sweaty dudes blasting metal music. But Kaiju knows that it can be intimidating for girls like me, and they respect us showing up anyway. Kaiju instructors are extra attentive, patient, and kind with newbies as they learn the basics. They pushed me to try, and celebrated with me when I succeeded. The instructors here don’t care how much or how little you know; or what you look like. They care about respect, safety, cleanliness, and an eagerness to absorb and share knowledge. And that’s all I really need.

Old review was deleted, this is an old account so it should have been posted 2021 but instead it did when I logged in again in 2023.Pros:solid team, lessons and equipment. I would also say that initially the attitude was very positive and the environment felt welcoming. Can also confirm that the amount of progress and teaching techniques my brother learned here in such a short span of time prove this place has coaches who know what they’re doing when it comes to martial arts.Cons: difficult communication, lack of understanding of our situation- as it was never about an economic situation and/or lack of funds, just more about the way the situation was handled when my brother wanted to leave the group. Would recommend a more flexible refund policy that does not require a long term notice especially if language is clearly a barrier (obvious when parents went to the academy, should not need to be mentioned as I was the translator at the time). Would have been useful to reiterate to both guardians about the refund policy or how that worked in case their child wanted to withdraw from lessons at any given time due to personal reasons- could help avoid unnecessary confusion.Overall giving 3 stars because obviously we are an exception to most people and clients so perhaps this was a rare instance/situation that hasn’t happened before. Yet I believe that it’s also positive to share a bit of our experience for others to see or the establishment to improve.Thank you

If you’re looking for an activity that is going to ground you everyday, look no further. The only weird part about it is, despite getting humbled every day, you still get the urge to show up the next day?would recommend

I've trained in several martial arts, and always wanted to dive deeper into BJJ. After doing some research I found Kaiju and decided to try it out. As soon as I walked in the door, I knew this was where I wanted to be. The coaches are amazing, the facility is clean, modern, well kept, and welcoming. Everyone is kind and the whole environment feels like a family. I enrolled my daughter as well and she has never had as much fun as she does here. I cannot recommend Aaron and the team enough.

Very good vibe - lots of energy in the building but relaxed, welcoming staff/ownership that make you feel important in such an authentic way - no sales pitch - my daughter and I tried one day and signed up! An amazingly different workout that takes you out of your comfort zone in a great way!Highly recommend!

An awesome place to learn and develop. I joined Kaiju and also had my 5-year-old daughter join. The gym is run by Aaron... who is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about Jiu-Jitsu and self-defense. Aaron is also as patient as it gets, which is huge if you are starting out, as I was. On top of that the community in there is great. All great people trying to help one another. I highly recommend Kaiju!!! I'm sure it will not disappoint!

Kaiju is a hidden gem. I couldn't find it at first as it's hidden in between a parking garage and regals theaters. However, it has some of the friendliest and most welcoming coaches and community in BJJ. They offer a wide range of classes at many different times of the day to best fit your schedule. They offer additional classes like striking, wrestling, judo, and muay thai. If you need a bike, Aaron provides discounts to all gym members. I highly recommend this gym!

We have been coming here for almost 2 years. My kids absolutely love it. It is their home away from home. My son, who is Autistic, is always felt welcomed, engaged and accommodated. My other son, who is competitive and very athletic is challenged and engaged every day. The whole vibe at the gym is one of inclusion and friendly competition. Everyone that attends regularly feels the same way.
