The people who work here are so kind and thoughtful, I really appreciate their assistance every time I visit. Thank you for stocking aspen chips for my rescue bunny, and for all the great dog toys. I also love seeing the cats they are helping to get adopted. I am truly very thankful for this Petco being in Del Mar.

I took my one year old Golden Retriever in for a bath. I booked my appointment ( had to wait three weeks) and I was recommended to this location by a neighbor who also has a Golden Retriever. I read on their website that for an extra fee he would not be left in a crate after bathing. The process of grooming would be expedited and he could roam in the grooming area until picked up by owner. I even told the groomer that I would be readily available once they called me to pick him up. This was his first professional grooming and I wanted to make sure it would be a positive experience. When I did come to pick him up, they instructed me to go to the cashier first and pay which I did. While paying I heard him barking rather hysterically and I was shocked because he is not a barker at all. I went and got him from the groomer and he was bleeding on the top of his head. I was shocked and upset, needless to say. I asked the groomer how that happened and he looked and said (he hadn't even noticed it!) he must have bumped his head on the crate because he was jumping trying to get out. I then asked why was he in the crate and if he saw that he was jumping and scared of the dryer he should have stopped and called me. (BTW, my dog was crate trained and I never had any issues). I suspect he was scared of the big dryer being blown at him. Who knows. The fact that the groomer did not notice the blood on the top of his head is unbelievable. I was speechless and immediately took him to the car. He was visually stressed and wouldn't even ride with his head out the window like he usually does. Obviously, I was angry and very hurt that he had to go through this. After a day of calming down, I called and asked to talk to the manager. She wasn't there but was told by the temporary manager that answered the call, she would give her the message and would return my call the next day. She did and immediately said she would refund the grooming charge and offered to have my dog come back for a complimentary grooming. I told her that was nice but why would I do that when he was physically hurt from the first experience? She said she inspected the cameras and that there was no foul play involved. I said probably and hopefully not BUT when and if he was jumping in the crate and bleeding, why wouldn't the groomer release him from the crate and notice his head was bleeding? I will not go to this PETCO again. Up until this incident, I had been to quite a few Petcos in the past with previous dogs and never had any issues. I am warning others with my review to be vigilant if they decide to go here.

Yes I know you're going to close in 2 minutes. You have a customer at the register. I can grab the one thing I need and get going. I don't live near a Petco but no that can't happen. I have to be kicked out before the last customer even finishes paying. What a bummer! I usually love this Petco but not today.
As I sit in the parking lot writing this they just let another customer out, 6 minutes after closing so they could have let me get my dog her dinner

I have to return prescripyion food, which purchased 1.5 month ago. At Petco store, it was simply changed to credit. It was easy, simple, and very kind .

It's that weird over the top customer service like the Cal-O's expect. So strange coming from a non Cal-O place where shopping is a transaction not an experience. Sometimes it's ok, but I really don't want to have to have a phony chat every time I exchange money for something. Here's the cash , give me the thing, done, bye.

I loved this Petco. I went in to get a name tag for my dog. The person behind the counter was so nice, willing to help and walked me through the whole process. She was knowledgeable, patient and truly helpful. Highly recommend this Petco

I have a 14 year old puggle who has diabetes and has become mostly blind. She's absolutely fearless and is even thriving believe it or not ❤️ ?❤️
But, her diabetes makes her have to urinate at random times, morning and night, and she needs to relieve herself, sometimes on the spot. We have been using puppy pads in her own section of the apartment and she has no problem using them, which can get to be costly and a lot of work between cleaning up pp and taking her out as often as possible.
With my Petco membership I can get 100 pads for 20 bucks.... Which is half the price, if not more than half, and we have saved tons of money. Pretty much every item we have ever purchased at Petco had some sort of discount up to half off on a new doggie bed and harness. Better than Amazon in my opinion and you can see everything in person to make sure everything is just perfect for her.
Sorry so long, thank you for reading. Petco has honestly helped us get everything our pup could ever need at a decent price. Seriously.

Exits and entrances from parking lot can be tricky. Slow down and use indicators when turning in from Rosecrans. Try exciting past Starbucks to get on midway.
