Great place to be if you want to feel like you're on the beach only not in the sand. You can be lying on a blanket in the grass like at the park yet feel like you're on the beach!

Went to the park to meet up with a group of friends so we could watch the sunset. The coaster runs right by the park. There is a pay-for parking area across the street as well as some limited street parking if you are lucky. The area itself is beautifully maintained and clean. The grass looks like it's great to just lay in and look up at the sky or spend time watching surfers telling yourself that one day you too will surf. There's a path that runs along the edge of the hill/cliff with a couple of benches here and there. The beach is below so it really is a good spot to take all this in. Check it out. Go for a sunset and I don't believe you'll be disappointed.

When it comes to beaches, San Diego has an embarrassment of riches. One of my favorites is Del Mar. It has high points with beautiful vistas of the sea and surfers, access to the sand and water, and grassy knolls. And very important if you get sandy feet or get in the water -- showers! For me, another highlight is lots of dogs. Also, great village for lunch or drinks or whatever.

Beautiful little waterfront park in Del Mar, located along a particularly lovely stretch of beach. And here's something special: apparently Del Mar did not get the memo from Carlsbad, Oceanside, and all the other north county towns about the need to ban dogs EVERYWHERE. You can actually walk your leashed dog on the beach. Walking south from the park, you can go all the way to Torrey Pines beach (where, of course, dogs are again banned, so you need to turn around). Part of the year dogs can even be off leash before 8 a.m. (Not sure why they don't do this year round, but just allowing dogs at all in the canophobic north county is such a welcome difference that I won't complain!).

It's absolutely breath taking and magical here...Playground: Very clean with lots of little visitors.Dog-friendliness: The dogs must be on a leash, but their is a doggie beach at walking distance where these puppies can roam around ?Picnic area: Picknick tables all over, or bring your own chairs or blanket as the grass lawn is inviting ?

Del Mar, a quaint village by the sea north of San Diego. Wonderful vistas, small shops and restaurants. Careful where you park. Parking is strictly enforced. Dogs can enjoy the North beach area. See signs for when dogs can be off lease. Varies seasonally. No dogs near the tot lot. Update: lovely! Update: huge surf the last couple days. 4 the very experienced only! A lovely spot! Update, summer crowds gone.Playground: Yes, South endRestrooms: YesPicnic area: A few tables
