It's a shame so many people are rating Downey High School based on one experience completely unrelated to the education component itself. The front office staff don't teach, they are attendance clerks. They don't get paid to make friends, entertain or even serve the public. They get paid to manage the attendance of over 4,000 teenagers. They have to deal with teachers, administration and unruly parents all day long. If you were in their shoes, you'd probably be stressed out too. Unlike most of you, my encounters with the front office staff have always been pleasant. If you have a suggestion or complaint, consider taking it up with someone in charge, like an administrator. If there are none available at the time of your visit, a simple search on the school website will provide you with all the information and email addresses of the various people in charge for you to reach out to. Trust me, they aren't looking for your feedback on Yelp.

Office staff is rude. I walked in and and was ignored. I finally had to ask if I needed to take a number even though nobody else was waiting. Office staff Natalie? instructed me to just walk in and talk to a counselor without directions to where the counselor office was located. When I asked for directions, she just repeated to walk in. Basically I was invited to just wondering around the halls. They did not ask for any ID or to sign in. I also called before walking in and they didn't pick up the phone but when I walked in 15 minutes later there where three people in the front.

Wish I could not clicked on zero stars!! Today encountered the rudest staff member ever!!! Some Caucasian looking Karen (dark hair) on the parking lot. She literally arguing with me in front of a student. Hope she doesn't treat students.in that way. Thank you Jesus i don't have a student there if not she definitely would not be a happy camper with me!!!!!

1 star to post. Front office staff is rude, unprofessional, and bougie. You answer phones that's it get over yourselves. For graduation you should have included everyone not just the jocks, the clubs, but also acknowledged students who are in special education. They to should be recognized for all there hard work to graduate as well, included in the youtube graduation ceremony for class of 2020 and 2021, pictures should have been added of them as well, included to also participate on stage and read a speech or sing a song at the graduation. What you think they can't do it?. Smh shame on you Downey High. I would here Downey high is good Downey high has good resources for specialized education. I ended up moving to Downey unplanned and my kid went to Downey High. I was so disappointed being a special needs advocate for mental health in and out of school how Downey school district is not inclusive of special needs kids. Think about that for the years to come cause those kids matter to!

I went to this high school and graduated in 2012, and all I have to say is my very best and most favorite and memorable Downey High moment was when I was meeting very cool friends from general ed classes (whoever's one of my peers, like Juliana Rose Sanfelippo, Bonnie Shilling, Candice Potvin, and Erika Madrigal for example. The only disability I have is autism, but other than that, I can speak and listen very well just like most of the general ed students of the school, not like some of the special ed students. That's right, I'm so lucky I'm mildly autistic and highly functional. ), God those memorable and nostalgia memories is making me wish a time machine is invented so that I can go back in time, remember those memorable and nostalgia memories, and do some missed opportunities I wish I've done like go from classroom to classroom with any one of them so that I could have been in general ed classes (especially with one of my close friends from now) and be part of the Downey Amigos Club along with the varsity swim and water polo team, basketball, dance, track, and wrestling activities, that way my life would've been much better because I DEFINITELY missed out on all of them in high school, and of course, I would've undeniably been much more well-behaved and treated positively and very well, which is the way I want to be treated. All of this is to show what a dedicated, imaginative, and inspiring person I am. Nuff said!

Due to the pandemic I was not able to see my child walk the stage for graduation. But what really disappointed me was how the setup for graduation took place. A video streamed, that I feel more effort should have been put into it. All that was seen was the social groups which were the same students over and over. But this school has so many more students. Why couldn't they say each seniors name, why couldn't they post random picture of students who were to themselves or quiet and not in groups, so they felt apart of something. And why were there no pictures or mention of the Special Education students who are ALWAYS left out. DO a better job Downey high with involving all seniors to make there last year memorable rather than letting a group of kids choose there circle of friends to be in repetitive posts. Not everyone is a social light and that's okay. Make sure this upcoming year you choose and encourage other students and special ed students to partake in the development for senior year memories. I have one child left there. Hope to see change this upcoming year. And lastly get rid of the office staff. There so rude and act like there to good. You work in an office and sit down all day and answer phones. Id respect you more if you were the janitors in stead of trash talking all the parents and students while I've sat there and waited to speak to a counselor. SO unprofessional. GROW UP LADIES, If you don't like it then do something about it. ALL YOU IN THE FRONT THERE! Looking ghetto with your perms! Grow up!!!

Was very disappointed at the fact that Nora Aguayo at the front desk had a side conversation with another clergy saying how "convenient" it was for me to pick up my child early on a 3 day weekend. Sorry Nora, I don't mark on my calendar which days to have emergencies causing me to pick up my child early. So inappropriate...all the ladies at the front desk at Downey High.

*DISCLAIMER: If I could give my experience at the main office ZERO stars, I would.* FIRST OF ALL, the reason for my ZERO rating is the Main Office lady (if she could even be called a lady) who had red hair, which btw needs to be dyed ASAP cuz them roots aren't cute. Anyways, I walk in and I asked to picked up my little sister because my mom had an emergency and I needed to pick her up early before I went to work. THIS D*** A** RED HAIR B**** IS LIKE, "oh sorry, you can't take her out. Unless you're her mom?" like hoe, I'm only 19, DO I LOOK LIKE I COULD BE THE MOTHER OF A 15 YEAR OLD?! Anyways, after I said no, she said my mom needed to send an email to confirm that I was allowed to take her out. The email must contain a picture of my moms ID, and a statement saying that she allows me to take out my little sister. KEEP IN MIND THERE IS NO DAMN SIGNAL AT THE FREAKING MAIN OFFICE, ALSO THAT THIS IS AN EMERGENCY. So I go, call my mom and tell her to send the email WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY ABSURD CONSIDERING THE FACT THAT THERE IS A DAMN EMERGENCY CARD FOR A REASON!!!! At any other school, an emergency card is used for those who can take out the child in case of an emergency BUT I GUESS NOT HERE WHICH IS TOTALLY D*********** So my mom goes and sends the email, AND THE STUPID GIRL IS LIKE "I haven't received anything," also, keep in mind, 30 minutes have passed. Then she's like "tell your mom t email you and that works too" LIKE AFTER 30 MINUTES?! UGH. Anyways, my mom does that AGAIN, and I stand there showing my moms email to her AND SHE IGNORES ME. After when she has the decency to help me out another mother comes in to take out her child and she tells her "sorry we don't release students 20 minutes before the bell rings" AT THAT POINT I WAS SUPER MAD. I got there at 2 pm, they get out at 2:50, when the mom came in it was 2:40. 40 MINUTES OF MY LIFE WASTED AND IT WAS USELESS. They should have her fired along with everyone there who wasn't able to help. This policy is a joke.

I went to school almost all 4 years. (Almost because i started freshman year in April) and it honestly was a great time of my life so far. (so far being i'm only 19) there was SO many amazing teachers, and my counselor never stopped fighting for me to graduate. Mrs. Curriel is truly a gem, and I couldn't thank her enough. There were and are some rude teachers and a horrible lady in the office who always dressed inappropriately and always gave my dad a disgusting attitude. Other than that, I was blessed enough to have Mr. Hansen as a theatre teacher his last year and the Mr. Nelson has the new theatre teacher for my junior and senior year. Better than warren? Definitely! :)
