All of our kids (4, 8, 10, 14) have taken classes at El Cerrito Martial Arts. Whether as part of the after school program, in form of camp during the holidays or just weekend classes - and they genuinely like it. Which isn't surprising at all, because the teachers - mainly Cody, Brin & John - seem to also genuinely enjoy what they're doing. It's impressive how they run the show allowing the kids to have fun and run free playing games and ensure at the same time that the kids stay in line. Sometimes our kids even do homework there after school, which is quite nice. The studio has a back room with tables and chairs. And as far as Jiujitsu goes: our kids have learned a lot and they keep getting better and better!

When you order over the phone, you need a credit card, and online order system is not user friendly. They need apple pay online. Also, the person who answered the phone at 11:15am on 11/04 was incredibly rude.

It's impossible to stop the non-stop solicitation texts. I don't even know how I got on their list. I just got another text today. A true martial artist would try to under the perspective of others and not focus on making more money for themselves. HELLO!!! THIS ANNOYING!!!!

I can happily recommend El Cerrito Martial Arts, as well as the head instructor, Cody. My kids have attended Cody's after school program for over a year, which comes with school pickup (a huge plus) and high-quality martial arts instruction. Not only have my kids enhanced their martial arts skill, they have also made new friends and had a lot of fun. Cody is also a great guy, and in addition to being an excellent martial artist and teacher, I can also count him as a friend. I also do jiu jitsu myself, and I can attest that Cody is a legit black-belt, who rolls with just the right combination of restraint and skill to challenge his partners and enhance their learning.

Both my daughters have attended El Cerrito Martial Arts over the last few years and I can't recommend it enough! It's been a place for my 7 year old to be her (very!) active self, learn jiu-jitsu, learn success and failure and make friends in a dynamic space. My kids have both done their camps, classes, and Afterschool program. As a working parent it's definitely helpful to have the convenience of their afterschool program as I always know they will have a great workout and social time with other kids (and they offer transportation from school!). When the pandemic started my little one had kind of a rough time with the lack of socialization being at home all the time but since attending this program her confidence and social skills have increased (along with her martial arts skills!). She always looks forward to her class and her friends everyday. Highly recommend this place!

Our 5 year daughter has been attending Cody's social distance camp for the last year and currently a summer camp. We've been very happy. She has been thriving at the camp and she has gained so much confidence and independence during that time. Cody's daily physical activities and jiu-jitsu classes helped her to increase her focus and self-esteem. I am very positive and have a piece of mind that she is fully prepared to go to kindergarten in the fall.

I read good things about El Cerrito Martial Arts online and it sounded like they had a nice summer day camp program for kids. I enrolled my 4 year old for one week and two of his friends from his preschool also enrolled. I am so livid with our experience! I feel completely scammed. The way this program is run is so unsafe. I brought my son, and no one bothered to sign us in. I mentioned my mother would be picking my son up and inquired what information they needed. Nothing was needed. Right away I felt like this was a huge mistake. There was hardly any space for kids to do all these activities they mention. What you read on their website is NOT what you get. The second day, I didn't even take my son in. The third day, I had to work with no one able to watch my son. My kid asked to stay home. He didn't want to go at all. My mother picked him up and she said she was waiting around for 10 minutes with no adult in sight. Finally one adult emerged from the bathroom. During that time she was waiting, kids of various ages were running all around hitting each other with pads. A kid around 4 climbed to the very top of one of the punching bags. He could have fallen and been hurt. My mother said she would watch my son the next day while I worked because it was such a horrible place. I took off Friday at the end of the week and offered to watch his friend because we cannot trust our children at this place. I regret wasting my money! I feel so bad I ever had my son spend any time there! I literally cried. My son had one week of summer vacation from his preschool, and I thought I found a fun, safe place for my son to spend his days while I had to work. I am so disgusted. Do NOT put your kids in this day camp. I thought if my son enjoyed it, we could try doing martial arts classes there. Well obviously, after my experience, I would not consider giving this place ANY business.

My daughter loved karate and the teachers here are friendly and made karate fun. Every week she is asking to go back to class and learn more and play fun games.

Cody and El Cerrito Martial Arts is the best! My daughter has some attention challenges, and Cody has worked with her one on one. She enjoys her lessons and feels so proud afterwards to show me everything she has learned. We've also picked up a few tips from Cody to help my daughter focus when she is a little excited in real life, which is great! We will continue going and I highly recommend.

Cody's ECMA Saturday morning martial arts practices are pretty special because they're in a park like setting with redwood trees all around. Cody is in front of the students over 10' away. The instructions are easy to follow and my 9 year-old quickly gets into martial arts mode. Other kids seem to enjoy it too. My son continues to build his skills from years at ECMA. The recent change is that we bring a martial arts dummy for my son or I'm the dummy.

My 6 year old did this day camp and loved it. He is new to martial arts but they made him feel so welcome and got him excited right away about learning new skills like a front shoulder roll and kicking moves. They also played games and went outside to get some fresh air and run around. The camp counselors and the owner Cody are super sweet and supportive of all the kids. It's a great way to spend the day!

I've been training Jiu Jitsu at EC Martial Arts for almost 4 years. The coaching is very personalized, taking into consideration different levels of fitness and experience. Injury prevention and safe training are also emphasized. The members here have a team mentality, egos are left at the door. Professor Cody tailors to your goals, whether it's for fitness, self-defense, or for competition. There are kickboxing/Brazilian Jiu Jitsu/No-Gi Submission Grappling classes 6 days a week, which makes membership a great deal. The kids' program has students as young as kindergarten age, while our adults' program has students who are seniors. All are welcome.

Love El Cerrito Martial Arts! Our son attended martial arts class for almost a year, and we withdrew home only because he was very interested in trying basketball. He learned so much about himself (self-control, focus, and using his strength for good) through martial arts, and really connected with the teachers. This is the second year in a row our son has done their summer camp, and he comes home happy and exhausted every day! The counselors are engaging and very friendly. The extended hours are a very helpful for working families. The owner,Cody, is has been reachable and approachable if anything comes up. I highly recommend both the classes and the summer camp.
