Turnabout Shop is a small, volunteer-run thrift store located in El Cerrito, serving as a vital community asset for over a century. Managed by the Berkeley Clinic Auxiliary, the shop's proceeds go directly to providing free dental and orthopedic treatment for children whose families cannot afford it. The store is always nicely arranged and tidy, with a wide variety of donated items including clean, undamaged adult clothing, books, small electronics, kitchenware, art, jewelry, small hardware, records, CDs, musical instruments, and garden decor. Due to limited space, larger items like furniture are not accepted. Despite its small size, Turnabout Shop offers reasonable prices, making it a more affordable option compared to other East Bay thrift stores where prices can be high. The shop is well organized, and friendly volunteers are always ready to help customers find what they need. However, the space is quite small and not suitable for strollers or dogs, with a small kids' clothing section and some toys and books. The store has limited hours—Wednesday through Saturday from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm—and donations are accepted only during these times, contingent on space availability. Customers appreciate the helpful staff and the shop’s clean, orderly environment. The shop's ongoing operation depends solely on volunteers, emphasizing the importance of community support and donations. Overall, Turnabout Shop is a cherished local spot that offers quality goods at good prices while supporting a meaningful cause.
I bought a beautiful Jeanette depression glass compote bowl that I'm displaying as a fruit bowl. The store is small, but well organized, beautiful description on price tags, and friendly staff.

This store is a real asset to El Cerrito. Always nicely arranged and tidy. I noticed that they have an overabundance of outdated clothes that are very colorful. Seems people prefer black, grey and beige these days, so I hope they have an ecological way to dispose of them.
