Bias and idiotic driving test grader. Fail someone for having an attitude and not look over you shoulder during at an intersection. That's the stupidest thing ever... why would you look back at an intersection ?

My son recently had the unfortunate experience of taking his driving test at the EL Monte DMV . His time with Cathy (Dodger wearing visor) was nothing short of frustrating and concerning due to her lack of basic safety knowledge and unfair practices. Cathy should definitely read the CA driver's handbook a few times over before she administers another test. DMV should evaluate her record vs her peers. I do not recommend this location.

If you have a lady named Natalie Toy as your driving examiner, just book your next appointment to retake because she's going to give you an automatic fail like she did to my daughter. She was very rude to my daughter I before the test even started. She gives very unclear and last minute instructions and berates the drivers during the test for not being able to do them. During a 4 way stop, there was only my daughter's car and a car infront of her, she let the car front of her go and there were no other cars around, as she proceeded to make the left turn, a car on her right decided to run the stop sign and almost hit them. Natalie yelled at my daughter saying that was very unsafe and that my daughter caused traffic. Natalie also proceeded to make my daughter do a u-turn in a driveway in a residential area and also failed her for letting a pedestrian cross. I get you don't like your job but at least give clear instructions and not make everything last minute then yell at them for not listening to you.

Scheduled an appt for 2pm but left at 2:40--apparently, that's considered fast at the DMV. While many services start online, most do require a DMV visit to complete. I strongly suggest the DMV introduce automated machines for these in-person services. At least the machines won't give you an attitude. Let the robots take over.

My daughter failed two behind the wheel tests at this location. Her first time was with a gentleman, who kindly explained to her why he did not feel she was ready, and gave her 3-4 things to go home and work on. She was sad and disappointed yes, but came home and did as he suggested. A couple of months later, we went back and Cathy was her examiner. After the test, they parked and Cathy proceeded to mark wrong every single task (including some that she did not ask my daughter to perform.) She then told my daughter that she did not pass. When she asked Cathy if there was anything specific she should work on she told her "everything babe, we are done here." and left the car. I found my daughter in the car crying and defeated. Let me say that as a mother, I do NOT want my children to be given a license to drive a car until they are ready for the huge responsibilty to keep both themselve, as well as other people on the road as safe as possible. I respect and appreciate the first man and his assessment of my daughter. I appreciate his encouragement and constructive criticism to my daughter. Cathy on the other hand was rude, unprofessional, and did nothing but discourage my daughter from wanting to test again. This is unacceptable, and the fact that I see her and another examiner's name mentioned on here time and time again, is maddening as a taxpayer. They are public employees and at the very least should be respectful and professional. To anyone reading this, I would personally encourage you to test at another DMV. We went on to Rancho, where she passed with a great score. Interesting.

This is a joke of a DMV. I'm not sure how this location is still going. I wouldn't go to this DMV again. It's very unorganized and wait times are ridiculous.

Horrible communication went there to re take my written permit test and they denied it. They told me that I had to wait 8 days before retaking it when the guy told me to come back in 7 days. I wasted 3 hours waiting in lines just for them to let me know last second.

I should have read the reviews before having my teenage son take his driver's test at this location. Avoid the evaluator Natalie Toy at all costs. First, she walked up to us, scowled and barked "you wait over there" to me. Angry and rude. Then she gave poor instructions to my son throughout the exam, and failed him after nitpicking his driving to death. We had to wait two weeks, then he took the test again in Glendale and easily passed. After his experience, he talked to three more people who got Natalie Toy as their evaluator and she failed all of them too! Be warned. She chipped away at my son's confidence. But he now has his license and is literally happy to put her in his rear view mirror.

Today on February 5th, 2024 I accompanied my Mother to the DMV in El Monte, Ca. Prior to this appointment, she completed her application and testing requirements for the Real ID online. Upon arrival the initial woman greeter had an unpleasant tone, demeanor, and approach towards each customer that was waiting in line to check in. When we smiled and spoke with her politely, she continued with her negative attitude and made us grab a third reference of identification. (Online required TWO forms and stated all they needed were those same forms upon arrival). Not sure if that was a power play towards us women- if so, quite petty and strange. Third form was grabbed from the car (registration). Okay, glad we're done with her. Next, we waited in line and our number was called (F040) for reference (in case management would like to investigate). We approached window W6 with an older Asian American heavier set male. At first he was nice. Then, as soon as he told us that we MUST have certain documents to proceed, he could no longer wait on us. Okay, however this information was never disclosed while completing the application online in order to proceed at the DMV. He began aggressively saying that he was done with us as I requested to speak with his superior. Marisela approached a few windows down with my Mother and I patiently waiting. I assumed since our interactions with the first two employees were quite unprofessional and ignorant, I expected Marisela to follow suit. Surprisingly, she calmly explained that the Real ID had newer requirements and was able to guide us through the first part of the renewal of the DL. It's unfortunate that we have to make another appointment due to lack of instructions per the DMV online application, however my Mother and I were pleased and appreciated Marisela's professionalism as their leader. I do hope that the initial greeter (didn't catch her name) and Robert in Window 6 will be counseled, reprimanded, and written up for their unwelcoming and unprofessional demeanors they've portrayed. Hopefully this could be a cautionary warning to those entering this DMV due to the majority of unkind and unhappy employees. We do want to thank Marisela for representing the silver lining in a negative dark cloudy experience. Hopefully her employees will learn how to treat the public with kindness, tact, and patience the way she treated my Mother and I.
