***please note this is a review of ONE dr. Please read carefully as I've had great experiences with them for years until this point***I had a 23 yr old cat who was showing end of life symptoms. It took my vet friend a week to convince me to take her in to put her down. I made a wellness appointment to discuss my options. I made it very clear that I only wanted to discuss euthanasia. I was seen by a Dr A who is older with long grey hair and glasses. She utterly dismissed me and said my cat needed 1k in labs and an exploratory surgery. I told her she's 23 she can't survive that. This dr told me my cat is only 15. I told the Dr I bought the cat 8 years ago and she was 15 then and she's only skin and fur and you can see her bones. The dr accused me of not feeding my cat or caring for her. I told the dr my cat is incontinent and eat 3x a day, full cans of food and continues to loose weight just like my last older cat before he died. She was extremely dismissive and refused to discuss euthanasia.I ended up watching my cat suffer for 48h screaming in pain and she had multiple seizures. Yes, I know what cat seizures look like. I called around to multiple vets and no one could get me in and the only ones who could would only do it for 1200 and were too far away at over an hour each. I couldn't do ANYTHING to help. Dr a took away my ability to give my cat a painless and dignified death. I hope I never see that dr again. The vet tech that day was amazingly kind and friendly. I hope he goes to veterinary school. My cat normally hates men. Like haaaaaaates men. She was so calm and good for him. He must be a truly good person. Dr yu is my cats normal dr. She's so kind and sweet and truly listens. She's so mindful of your pet and your budget and goes out of her way to do the most for your pet. She saved me so much money. I usually request her when I go in. The staff there are Excellent and go out of their way not just for my cats comfort but for me as well. They're so kind and thoughtful and I've never once gotten any kind of attitude. I get their full attention every time I talk to them.

if you are looking for a caring and friendly staff VCA is the place for you. we took our son (dog) in because he was having some issues. the staff was so patient and helpful, even tho we had to say good night to our son the staff was amazing and the doctor even remembered him from a previous visit, when you are going through a tough time they truely care and show you the empathy and love one needs. I highly recommend this affordable and caring place for your animal. I couldn't have been so lucky to have these angel in my life yesterday. Thank you again VCA staff! Love, DeStefano family

I do not recommend this VCA. I signed up for the payment plan for my puppy that covers all her shots, fecal samples, and wellness checks. After my dogs first couple of visits for her vaccines, I noticed a change in her behavior when we would walk up the building. Now after all her shots are done, she is absolutely terrified to walk through the front door. I’m not sure how they treated her when she was getting vaccinated but her behavior has changed a lot. I can’t get out of the payment plan contract either so I am forced to continue to take her back to this place.Additionally, I made an appointment more recently for a wellness check and I drove 30 minutes to find out the lady never scheduled it in the system so I was turned away. After my yearly contract is up, I will not be returning to this VCA.

We have been going here for for several years with 2 dogs but the last time that we took our 2 years old shepherd in for a hurt paw the vet said that she wouldn't touch it even though he had a mussel on, other than that one vet they are excellent

Super disappointed. My family has been bringing my dog and our other pets to see Dr. Armstrong and they have had nothing but good experiences with the vet and her assistant.I called the Elk Grove VCA front desk to verify some documents because I am active duty military and trying to fly overseas with my dog. I had inquired to see what the vet can do to help me. However, when I called the receptionist that answered the phone, Micah, was very rude over the phone was not helpful.Today I went into the office to get a document signed by the vet and spoke to another receptionist. I told him that I wanted to speak to the vet to get paperwork signed. He had informed me that the vet was unavailable due to surgeries but he was willing to help pass my contact info to her so she could contact me when she was available. However, Micah had butted into the conversation and told the other receptionist that i was the patient she informed him about yesterday. This tells me nothing but that she is unprofessional and refuses to assist me. She continued to talk to me with an attitude and her supervisor was not in the same facility therefore I could not file a proper complaint. This next appointment will be my last with this animal hospital. I will not be recommending this treatment from such healthcare “professionals/providers” to any family or friends. My family and I and our 4 pets do not plan to return.

First, I think the vets are awesome and give great care. We have been coming here with many pets for over 20 years. We have a seven year old Golden Retriever that gets ear infections every year (sometimes more than once). We recently had a challenging situation when we attempted to make an appointment and could not get an appointment for 4 weeks. I appreciate VCA recognizing our frustration, apologizing via text, adding us to a waitlist and finding a time for us to come in.

Until lately I've only come here for routine care and have always been pleased. This week I brought in my dog for worsening anxiety and I as really impressed with the treatment we received. Rather than throw medication at it, the vet sat down with me, got to know me and the dog, and helped troubleshoot ways we can help minimize stress in his environment rather than just give him a drug. She did ultimately give me a prescription but, I'm hopeful that after implementing some of the changes we won't need it anymore.

DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU WANT REAL CARE FOR YOUR PET! My dog developed bloody discharge in his ear after their "examination", after which they were insistent on a ear cleaning and prescribing meds. My dog is 10 never had ear issues until now, 3 days after going there! BEWARE! Shady practices taking place.

Took my 3 1/2 month old Cocker Spaniel in as an emergency for an allergic reaction and they were so nice all the staff and Drs. I really appreciate them checking me in over the phone. And taking Max in right away and gave me shampoo and conditioner and pills. Gave him a bath and his pill today he is feeling much better. Thank you VCA Elk Grove

We first went to Elk Grove VCA because our senior cat, Charlie, needed an urgent visit, and our regular vet couldn’t fit him in. They quickly became his primary vet, even when we moved from The Pocket to East Sac, and the drive time doubled. They are incredibly professional, courteous, and compassionate. Dr. Van Riper is, far and away, the best vet I’ve ever encountered. Truly a superstar. When Charlie was diagnosed with diabetes and needed even more attentive care, they stepped it up and continued to be there for us, often at the drop of a hat. Two nights ago, he took a turn for the worst, and we decided it was time. While the process of putting him down was awful, the staff was kind, considerate, and made the process so much less painful. He left this world peacefully, and we are so grateful for that.

Most vets are falsely named hospitals in Sacramento. They are one, no walk-ins, no emergency care.

They told me they are unable to take new clients now. There is a national shortage of veterinarians and an increase in pet ownership. However they were able to refer me to another pet hospital who was able to see my dog for urgent care.

Dr. Clinton is absolutely wonderful. My furbaby has high anxiety and she has made this process of treating his ear infection for him gentle. Today he was able to relax and get the injections in his ears with no problem. Highly recommended Dr. Clinton for your furbabies!
