MacKerricher State Park is a great campground with amazing, large camp sites near the beach and a lake. It offers nice access to walking, bicycling, and boardwalk trails. The beach features small pebbles, black sand, amazing tide pools, and seals and birds. The facilities are pretty well kept, with nice, clean bathrooms that are being redone; the finished ones are beautiful. The location is hard to beat, close to town, though the water is minerally. It is often cool with an ocean breeze.
Beautiful but a bit rundown. Volunteer staff were hard working and friendly. Paid staff seemed lazy and not so friendly.

Great campground! We were near the newer style restrooms which was very nice. I do wish they had hand soap in the restrooms but most California parks don't so I get it.
