Anyone of different race is not welcomed with this bank. This bank will go to extreme lengths such as calling your boss to identify you if you are not Chinese. If you can clearly see that there is an account with this bank with the history of how many times the check is deposited, an ID card presented with the account number, what else is needed? The boss does not have time to pick up a call to identify their employee at the bank. How inconvenient for everyone! It is not just this location, but all locations in southern california. When addressed, they will tell you to go to your normal location because they are use to seeing you, which is a horrible excuse and does not address the fact of why other locations are discriminatory. I have read the discrimination policy on the Cathay website (which is very broad) and know the consumers rights and I hope this comment is taken seriously.

My bank that I had been with for a long time transitioned my account over to Cathy Bank this week. I had some administrative issues during the transition, and I came in to this Fountain Valley branch for assistance. The bank teller, Winnie, was very friendly, kind, personal and helpful. The sales manager Sam was professional, polite, very articulate and quite proficient at what he does. Both Winnie and Sam helped me with my online banking registration issues and other administrative problems with the transition. Everything went smoothly, and both Winnie and Sam took extensive time to explain and answer all of my inquiries. One of the reasons why I bank with small, local banks is the personal level of service, and not having to wait in long lines. I can't speak for the other locations, but this Cathay Bank Fountain Valley location (next to Costco) gets 5* stars from me.

I have been banking with many other banks in the last 50 years, I personally like the service with this branch of Cathay bank. Their staff are all extremely helpful and friendly. I have regular checking, savings, CDs and equity line with them, it has been great and running smoothly Highly recommend for my friends and relatives E. Chang

I've been coming her for the past 2 years since I moved to OC from LA. Todays experience was by far the worst Ive ever experienced with this bank. The teller who Ive never seen before interogated me because she claims she has never seen me before. I said Ive never seen her either so what is the issue? I provided all forms of ID and answered all security questions and she still gave me issues. I even point out that the other banker that was working that day has seen me multiple times in the past. She proceeds to bring up that I shouldnt be going to this bank if I opened my account somewhere else!!! She said I should be driving back to LA if I needed to come into the bank! Ridiculous!!! After finally giving me MY money i ask her for a transaction list for the past 6months. She tell me it will be $5 per month. I said a transaction list, not a statements. She wouldnt budge. Ive never been so disrespected by a banking employee in my entire life. She treated me like a criminal trying to get my OWN money! Ive worked in banking in the past and my former employers wouldve fired me for being so disrespectful to the customer! Poor customer service. Awful attitude. This teller should NOT be allowd to be anywhere near customers!

Banks are banks. They have corporate rules to follow. Check out their website to see if they meet your needs. What makes this branch special is it still feels like a local bank. They know you as a person not just a customer. They call to check up on you if a problem arises and do their best to solve it. Staff is knowledgeable and professional. It's a Chinese bank, but don't let that stop you from opening an account. They're no different than the big banks in terms of product and also FDIC insured. Ask for Amy.
