I really love this pet hospital. I own a long hair female german shepherd. I grew up taking my pets to a different animal hospital but I recently wasn't happy with their service and was referred here. To my surprise I really enjoyed this place. Marisa the vet tech has been great with our animals and answering all my questions. Dr. Moffett has also been great. Over all I feel comfortable with them seeing my pets.

Dr. Mertens is extremely knowledgable. She has a huge heart for the fur babies we count on to wake us up and to rest in our arms at bedtime everyday. She has been an inspiration for me while getting into my career in the Veterinary field. I completely trust her judgment and plans for treatment when it comes to the health and well being of my fur babies. Thank you Dr. MERTENS!

do not take your fur children here ! Only if I could give minus five stars I would. Years ago I gave a 5-star rating but things have changed since that time. first of all doctor Rue no longer owns Irvington Pet Hospital. It has been sold to a conglomerate. Is she is on her way out and she is in retirement mode so I do not suggest going there at this time or ever. I had a beloved pet cat oh, yes she was getting up there in age, picture to follow, if I can figure this darn thing out. I brought her in because she wasn't feeling that well and not acting like herself and Dr. Balendran examined my cat. Excuse me my daughter. She tells me she has renal failure and sends me home with all this medication and I was going to actually hook my cat up to an IV bag. I go back the next day, dr. Rue was on staff, she says my cat needs a blood transfusion immediately she sends me up to Beacon Animal Hospital. The lovely staff at Beacon calls me 20 minutes after having my cat and tells me she has a tumor. I'm willing to spend thousands on my girl, because she was worth it and I had the money. The vet up at Beacon set if it was my pet I would put her to sleep. I called back to Irvington pet hospital and dr. Rue is like what?? Huh? Boy does she have a lousy bedside manner. She was once a good vet but she needs to retire to Tucson because that's where she wants to be. Now back to Doctor B. I wouldn't go see that vet for my dog's fleas. Now when the new owner called me after I stopped payment oh, he was a very nice gentleman yet he tells me dr. B said I denied x-rays. That's when I went off. Why would I have taken my girl all the way up to Beacon and spend thousands of dollars and then chintz out on a couple of hundred dollars worth of x-? doctor B will not meet with me and say these things to my face. Does not sound like an honest woman and you have to ask yourself do you want a woman with that Integrity working on your fur baby. I have to pick up my cat's ashes on Saturday and they would not let me meet with doctor B so she could just tell me to my face that I denied those x-rays.Please if you care about your animals do not take them here. Maybe their new staff might be good, dr. Rue does not have her heart in that place anymore and Doctor B just doesn't know what she's doing. We all make mistakes that is for sure but I sure as hell am not paying for this mistake and I'm looking into a little animal malpractice. Be very cautious coming to this place and if they don't give me my cat's ashes based on this review, I will be back to tell you that as well. Blessings to all during these Unholy an unprecedented times, but to lose your fur baby because someone misdiagnosed her and couldn't even do a quick ultrasound, that is what Beacon did. So I gave you the name of one good vet in this area and ride up in the same parking lot is another good vet. I can't leave you phone numbers because Yelp doesn't allow that. Beacons a part of my story and I have a right to put their name in here. God bless.

I've been to a couple different veterinarians in Fremont for my cats and so far, I've been happiest with Irvington Pet Hospital. They're in my neighborhood, always friendly, there hasn't been anyone here that I've been concerned about (I've been to other vets where there were veterinary assistants that seemed to just not like animals, if you can believe it). One of my girls has a food allergy and Irvington did the best job of identifying a mitigation plan, and taking the appropriate care of her. Also, Dexter is a very good kitty. Please pet him, he is friendly and deserves love.

They made a really tough time for me and my dog as easy as can be. From the first call where they took me in last minute and wasn't grumpy about it, I knew everyone here had a good heart and patience. Mary, Yesmine, Nicole, Marissa?, and both doctors were great. Thank you all from me and Autumn.

I searched around for many years before finding and sticking with Irvington Animal Hospital. My pets have been patients for over 15 years. This review is long overdue! Dr. Rue and Dr. Balendran are true animal healers, and the office is staffed with caring and helpful individuals. Your pets are in good and capable hands there. As an important aside, having (sick) animals is expensive so buy insurance early on so the doctors can do their work!

Love Irvington pet Hospital Years ago are vet retired and I never thought we would find another honest vet until we found Dr. Rue. My family and I have been going there for 13 years. Dr. rue has helped me so much with my little Pomeranian who is 16 1/2. She is also so good with all the other dogs in the whole family which are 5 German Shepherds and a Yorkie. The techs are all great (Kate, Nicole, Brandon, Thomas and Jen) and Mary at the front desk. My Pomeranian has had a lot of health issues in her senior years but the whole staff there helps us get thru everything. We are so lucky to have them.

Been taking my kitties here for a few years. My one cat has diabetes and Dr Rue has been very helpful. She's very straightforward and to the point which I like. She's always upfront with costs. I've boarded my kitty there too and they took great care of him. The front desk staff and techs are great as well.

Girls in front office are really nice and the vet techs are awesome! Thank you for making my visit with my stressed little girl-a bit less stressful!

Dr. Rue is a master with cats. I've had her check out all three of our cats, and she has been excellent with them (even our really mean one)! Our kitten was just diagnosed with asthma, and Dr. Rue was very up front with us about the costs and consequences. I was very grateful for her expertise and honesty. However, I was pretty upset by a visit previous when we were set up with Dr. B. She is very nice, but she totally missed our cat's asthma and dismissed it as hairballs without further tests (and of course we walked away with a sizable bill for a doctors visit, despite not having done anything other than take my cats temperature and listen to her breathe). Additionally, she told us to record our cats "coughing attacks" (later turned out to be asthma attacks) and send it to her email. We did as we were directed, but no one ever responded. At last, when the attacks became so severe and frequent, I called the office. It turns out that no one ever bothered to look at the emails I sent. Obviously, I was pretty upset. Had I not taken in my cat that day to meet Dr. Rue, my cat could have died. Dr. B never apologized or acknowledged her mistake as well. Needless to say, I will be exclusively requesting Dr. Rue for our visits to the vet from now on.

Been taking my lovely cat to Dr. Rue for several years. She is wonderful; very patient and understanding. I cannot say enough positive things about everyone at the Irvington Pet Hospital. I can honestly say that everyone there always has your pet's health as their number 1 concern.

I've been bringing my dog here since I first got him as an 8 week old puppy. Each time, my experience is mediocre and passable until this time, when I took my dog in for an annual checkup...which has finally led me to write this review. First off, I'll say that the technicians and front desk (Thomas, Mary, etc.) are all great and patient. In regards to the doctor, we usually see Dr. Mertens. Although she is a knowledgeable and well-seasoned doctor, she isn't the the most patient, and I feel quite judged at times as the owner (mainly because this is my first dog and I guess I asked "stupid" questions before) My dog is a 2 yo husky and although he is squirmy and anxious and not the best patient, he does not bite at all. Regardless, I don't mind putting a muzzle on him just to quicken the appointment and process. What did it for me this time is that I brought my dog in for his annual Bordatella and Lepto vaccine, as well as his annual physical ($67). Dr. Mertens administered his shots, listened to his heart beat and that was it. $67 for the doctor to listen to his heart beat? I was so shocked I requested her to at least check his teeth and her response was "he has a muzzle on so I can't check his teeth unless you lift his lips for me." And so I did, without a muzzle on mind you, and she doesn't even look closely and says "some tar but looks good." It didn't occur to me then that she could at least check his joints, his ears, his paws, and his eyes as part of this annual exam until after the fact that I left (very mad). I'm so disappointed in this one appointment that I'm pretty determined to not come here again. I only came here because of convenience and proximity to my home, but geez, $67 can get me a lot of gas to go see another vet who will actually do a thorough wellness examination! Don't come here if you have a squirmy or anxious dog, are a first time dog owner, feed your dog raw, or can't drop $67 for a vet to listen to your dog's heart for 5 seconds. Here's my star breakdown: +1: Nice front desk & technicians +1: They let me drop off stool samples to test for Giardia without questioning me much or having to bring the dog in. Plus a doctor calls you back with results. (~$100 test)

We had a horrible experience with this hospital. We took our dog in for constipation and we ended up paying $700. They did not give us a heads up of how much it will cost us. Even after that they were trying to get us to buy products from them which we already had. Never taking our dog back here.

We have been going to this pet hospital for many years (8+) and overall love Dr. Rue--lots of experience, honest, and straight forward, but recently we had to have our dog euthanized and the following was a bit concerning: We were under the impression the procedure would be done with a professional anesthesiologist like on the previous occasion with my other dog. For our other dog the specialist performed the procedure but this time they did not. Be sure to clarify this if it's important for you. After the procedure was done, the male vet tech came in to help get the dog's footprints as we requested. He was quite rough handling our dog and he dragged him around by his neck so he could reposition him to get his footprints. It was difficult to see and I was appalled at his lack of empathy or care for our dog, especially since we were still in the room grieving. We understand that vets / vet techs handle these situations often, but we wish that the vet tech had been more mindful of the way he treated our dog in front of us. Even though our dog had passed, we still wish the vet tech would have treated him with care and consideration instead of dragging him by the skin on his neck. For example, the vet tech could have carried him more gently and respectfully. If we knew he was gonna treat our dog roughly, we wouldn't have had his footprints taken. Please be more mindful and considerate while handling euthanized pets. :(

There are good aspects to this vet and bad. The bad, they make you wait far too long than I've ever waited and it isn't a one-time experience, it is every visit. Additionally, I went to this vet to see the dr.'s listed on the website and according to yelp reviews. It was another dr altogether and I was very displeased with her poor ability to speak english clearly, I need to understand what is going on without asking what, what? Secondly, I paid for a full exam and just because my cat had a hard time with the visit, he only comes in every few years for these check ups so do your job and make sure EVERYTHING is good and don't use the excuse that you didn't want to upset the cat further when contact is made after the appt to ask why certain things were not addressed. The dr saw my pet for all of less than 5 minutes, yet I paid for an annual exam. My first visit when I brought in another one of my animals went much better in that I could understand the dr and trusted her, but dr was condescending and of course, I had to wait an hour to get in. I will continue to go here to see how things go, but they need to improve in these areas AND most importantly do not have other dr's who are not listed on the website unless clients are verbally notified it will be a different dr.
