A few years ago the catalytic converter was mysteriously lost from our car here and mysteriously replaced by an off-market piece without our knowledge or consent. Unfortunately, we only found out a while later, when we took the car to do a smog test and the person doing the smog told us not only that it failed, but that the car had had the original part taken out of it and replaced with an off-market piece. Failing is common when that piece is replaced by an off-market piece, and the car had never failed before. This is not an honest business and we stopped coming here altogether. We used to do all of our car-fixing business here and it was not our first dishonest experience, but it was certainly our last. It's a shame and shocking to do something like this to consistent customers especially. Anyway, I felt like the positive reviews needed to be balanced by a more realistic one.

Starts leaking antifreeze from thermostat...reallycall him take it in fixes problem, said it was a gasketthen next day? Drive it 10 miles and driving it....it dies on mewow....and did I forget to mention that when I got home....there was a big scratch in the paint,I called him on it? My wife has a 2010 Prius and is a stickler about getting maintenance done on schedule. A friend of mine recommended JJ's auto and I'm glad he did. We needed to get the 120K service done and looked online to see what needed to be done. Information on the internet was all over the place. We took it to JJ and he explained exactly what needed to be done, gave us a written quote and got it all taken care of for us. And at a good price. My wife was very happy with the work, and if my wife is happy, then I'm happy. I highly recommend you take your car to JJ's

JJ'S AUTO REPAIR SAVED US OVER $4,800!!! We nearly got scammed into buying a $5,100 transmission from another shop! Luckily we were referred to JJ for a second opinion and because the other place was dragging us along. JJ had the opportunity to complete the same expensive repair, as it was technically covered by a warranty contract, but this guy did what was right and also completed all the repairs in record time... a single business day! The cost was more than fair, if not a steal! We've definitely found a mechanic we can trust, something I know all too well that is difficult to come by these days. Here's our experience! We were referred to another shop by a gas station mechanic after the car wouldn't shift past 3rd. We'll call this "other shop", The Other Shop. So we take the car to The Other Shop and there is a standard $160 diagnostic charge to further investigate. It took them 3 days and US calling to find out the diagnosis was a new transmission.. cost, $5,100! And in regards to us calling in... they actually said, "the mechanic was meaning to call us" (well thanks for "meaning" to call). On the 4th day, The Other Shop tells us that are not certain the warranty will pay out and told us to deal with them ourselves! We call into the warranty company and after being interrogated... they say they'll be in touch in a "few days". 3 more business days go by without any updates. The car has been broken now for 7 days. During this time, we have been relying on friends and Uber for transportation. After speaking to a friend.. they tell us to call JJ's Auto Repair in Fremont to see if he can help. After a quick conversation with JJ on the phone and sending in a copy of the warranty papers... JJ says, "No problem, I'll take care of it for you, bring the vehicle to me tomorrow morning". Surprised because of the experience at The Other Shop, we try to clarify the issues with the warranty company and JJ scoffs and says, "don't worry about nothing, I'll take care of everything". We pick up the vehicle from The Other Shop on Tuesday evening and slowly and carefully drive it over to JJ's shop and drop the keys in the after hours drop box. The next morning (Wednesday), within a few hours of opening, JJ already has authorization from the warranty to work on the vehicle! By mid-day, he calls us with a huge surprise. The vehicle does NOT NEED A TRANSMISSION!! The details at this point don't matter... it was something about finding bits of material in the pan after opening the access cover and this meaning that a belt is broken. The reason we know the vehicle doesn't need a transmission, is because JJ's Auto Repair actually worked on the vehicle during their inspection... the SAME inspection we paid The Other Shop $160 to diagnose. The total cost of repairs just went from $5,100 (at T.O.S.)... to $360 at JJ's!!! Three hundred and sixty dollars! That's $4,740 difference for repairing the SAME EXACT VEHICLE and SAME EXACT FAULT!! Not taking into consideration the additional $300+ in taxes we would have been charged for the repairs at The Other Shop. Here is the next kicker... when we had gone to pick up the vehicle from The Other Shop (prior to bringing it to JJ's)... they tried to take a $2,500 deposit for ordering the transmission. Let me remind you... there was no transmission needed, AND, the vehicle had a full coverage warranty which would have paid for this. They wanted us to front the money before even getting approval from the warranty company. I'll also note that we have been working with the owner of The Other Shop, during a lot of this process. Mechanics have hard enough time with trust issues as it is... and this was just about one of the shadiest things I have experienced in a while. And here is the most disappointing thing... because in the end... The Other Shop still managed to

On a spare of a notice I called JJ's Auto repair to have my AC looked at and my battery. JJ hooked up his gages on the AC and the pressures were good and he used a laser to measure the temperature, also was good to go. He then took apart my positive battery terminal and cleaned the heck out of it, sprayed some protective coating on it and said I am good for another six months. All for only $45. He could of milked me to get more money out of me, but no.....he is honest, professional and he does fantastic work. You can't go wrong taking your car to him.

THE YELP REVIEWS ARE NOT WRONG!! This place is great. We took our car there for front end suspension work and JJ's not only did the work for a very reasonable price, they also did it very quickly -- right before a holiday weekend. JJ's arranged for a car ride home and then picked up when the car was done. The staff is polite and respectful. We think we've found our new mechanic.
