The Goleta Valley Community Center is a great local venue for local concerts and other performances. The center also has pickleball courts that are available to the community. These are few of the many activities and resources available which include opportunities for kids to seniors to partake in.

My senior band members and I have been volunteering /performing at the Senior Center for more than ten years now. We feel so welcomed and so at home at this place. We enjoy singing oldies but goodies music to the delight of our senior friends. I'm personally grateful that we have this place available to fellowship with seniors. ( Thursdays from ten am to one pm). I am giving a commendation to Charles who manage the center and to Claudia who is the Activities Manager ( she is efficient and amiable). Now that the global pandemic is over, I call on fun loving and healthy seniors to come to GVCC senior center (after it's renovated) and have fun with us.

I liked the Senior Lunches but the hospitality just really isn't there. There is a Bingo crowd that shows up before the lunch time is even over and start grabbing trays and working to get the lunch over before the allotted time is up. I know several people that paid their annual dues, tried the lunch, tried having fun with the nasty Bingo crowd dictating where they could sit and never went back. The woman in charge of the Senior thingy is introverty, not really hospitable, more like she's overseeing people that need to know the rules than hospitable. I was a member but they wouldn't let me go there in the mornings, during the hours when Seniors are "welcomed" and plug in my laptop. I told them it was costing a fraction of a penny per hour and would even donate. I appealed to the next higher up in charge and he said I couldn't plug in. I never got a reason for it... Overall it's pretty crappy. Currently I go to the Senior lunch at the Dick DeWees center in Lompoc and there is hospitality galore. They have a pool table and half a dozen aficionados playing every day, the women that serve the lunches are wonderfully hospitable, the food is nutritious, they have a library with outlets for charging devices. It's nice to visit somewhere and not feel like a prison inmate reject.

I like the grounds here, they are nice. The community center includes a bunch of different organizations & a business or two. There is a dance studio, the senior center, a preschool, and the Boys & Girls club. There is also a meeting room or two. Last time I was here an Islamist Society was meeting and seniors were playing bingo. Good times.
