Great organic grocery coop. The prepared foods are wonderful. Lots of variety, really fresh, and Covid friendly. They have taken lots of care to make your experience comfortable. Friendly employees.

They are really nice and the staff is wonderful. I really like healthy foods and that they are organic foods too. It is expensive but you can't get this kind of food any place else. Because they have more of a selection than the other stores around town here. I will always come back to this store. A special thank you to Briar Patch for donating food for Nevada County. You are a special store and I will always remember you all. Thank you for a wonderful store it is always clean in there. And very tasty already made meals.

Love shopping here and supporting local. Seriously the best produce selection in this whole region. It certainly is a privilege and pricey but I am happy to be able to shop there and buy excessive amounts of delicious fruit!

This co-op supports local farmers and encourages sustainability. Prices are higher than national chains but Briar Patch is good for the community.

I love shopping at the 'patch for so many reasons it'll be tough to articulate them all! The produce is fresh, varied and always beautifully presented. The meat counter has delicious cuts of meat, sustainably caught seafood and tons of organic and compassionately raised offerings. The deli and ready-made food department always creates the most delicious entrees and lunch items. And, oh my gosh, the bakery is just SUBLIME. The German chocolate cake, the small blueberry bundt cakes are ridiculously yummy. And, just had a cranberry cheesecake tonight and that's what prompted me to write this review (been meaning to a while.) The Briarpatch staff is incredibly friendly and helpful and very efficient. Briarpatch gives back to the community in so many ways and cares about the health and well-being of their shoppers. Thank you!

Been shopping at Briar Batch since 2002 when it was in the crappy cinderblock building and staff were definitely downdressed. The vibe was more 70s-80s hippy.
The current style is far more Whole Foods, corporate, and clean. After reading the 1 star reviews on Yelp, most of which seem like lies or mis-guided grades: do not grade a store a 1 start on Yelp for a single bad burrito. Sheesh.
Also, if you don't like cute hippies wearing tie dyes, do not shop here. You're at the wrong store. There's a big Safeway very close :]
Organic and sustainable-oriented products are simply more expensive.
The staff and leadership are amazing. I shop at a lot of other stores and there is no other store within 75 miles where the customers and staff are in as good a mood as the folks at Briar Patch. It's night and day.
Briar Patch: Happy, nicely dressed, friendly, courteous, pandemic-mask-wearing customers and staff.
Safeway: Angry, methy, non-mask wearing customers dragging ass and angrily complaining about whatever their micro-dissatisfaction is and blocking register lines for 30 minutes at at time.
Briar Patch: Almost always has enough registers open.
Bulk Area: AMAZING, best within 75 miles (pre-pandemic). Still best within 75 miles. Most bulks are 100% shut down, Briar Patch has found a way to offer bulk during pandemic for about a third of their previous bulk stock.
I have never purchased from their deli / hot bar. I have no opinion.
On the matter of "snobby" and "pretentious", in 19 years of shopping there I have never found a single staff person to be snobby. Everyone is pretentious. Welcome to the species.
On the issue of being too busy: Briar Patch under-estimatedthe popularity of their "new" Grass Valley store (wow! we were all surprised!). It is true that parking can be super annoying and time consuming. Very happy to hear they are able to expand to add a store in Auburn, CA.
Auburn needs Briar Patch. For grocery/produce/food and for culture.
I look forward to stopping at the remodeled, derelict K-Mart in Auburn where the new Briar Patch is slated to open in 2022. I will happily throw change into a violin busker's case before I buy some fresh basil, bulk thyme, and wild rice on my way to a dinner party after the 2020-2021 covid19-sars2 pandemic is over.
Thank you to everyone at Briar Patch for your many years of service to this community.

High quality products for a fair market price. Amazing store. Happy coworkers! Love this place.

Extremely rude employee named "Tyler"
Discrimination is prevalent.
Unfortunately not the place that it appears to be.
What a shame!
I am experienced with working in a mom & pop health food store in beautiful Morro Bay, CA. I saw the value in performing the upmost respect for each customer who entered the business.
It definitely doesn't help any situation when the employees are assholes. Wake up

You guys have the greatest curbside service! Whoever’s running it is very efficient, I always get most everything I order, and when there have been substitutions the items selected for me have been perfect. With you I never have to worry about getting soggy produce or melted frozen items, it’s so awesome! My groceries are always packed beautifully and the frozen items are still frozen when I get them home, which has not been my experience elsewhere. I am really grateful to you for this service, you have a lifelong, dedicated customer in me

Not my style. Very expensive, yet not necessarily the best quality. Seems the trendy place for people to shop - while barefooted and unkept - for some of the locals. I found the store to ge unclean and messy.

I'm a big fan of food co-ops and am definitely a fan of BriarPatch too. I haven't been here in a couple years and it was nice to stop by this past Saturday with my friend.
During COVID-19 there was a line with a short wait to get into the store in order to keep the amount of customers under 50 at a time. They also had two different hand washing stations that you could use while you were waiting in line.
It was fun to look through the produce section, the vegan section, and also look for vegan items in the prepared food case. I bought some tofu and a butternut squash salad to take on my upcoming hike.
I also was happy to see some vegan peppermint flavored marshmallows that I can't wait to add to my peppermint hot chocolate. I was able to find some vegan products that are not at my local food co-op in Sacramento.
This is one of my favorite places in Grass Valley and I'll definitely be coming back the next time I'm in town.

What do I need to say beyond what I’m sure all the locals know — this place has got it going on! If you’re visiting Nevada County or have never seen it, get to BPFC pronto. Prices are worth the selections, the staff is super-friendly and on point, and the store carries a large selection of our hero Paul Stamets good-fungi vibes. It’s a coop and it’s clear the cooperation is giving the community a great gift.

Everything you want in a local food co-op. Good food, good selection, focus on community.
