Furniture Broken and damaged. Even heavy-duty metal shop cabinets are dented! What a nightmare. My fourth move with a mover and the first to do so much damage. Matt was the most expensive, but one of his strong assurances was, "WE Don't break things". Not true for us. Our things were stored for about a month. Somewhere between Roseville and Rancho Mirage things got tossed around pretty hard. The truck driver and unloaders were shocked. They didn't load trailer. Will say the employees are very nice. Unfortunately, the experience hasn't been. Attached are a few examples. No shop cabinets as they're now behind boxes...Now it's time to see how the insurance works out.

The crew that packed my belongings was very hard working and paid special attention to the things that where most important to us. The delivery of my belongings was quick and the crew was equally good at what they do. They unloaded my stuff to my storage facility in a fast but efficient way. All of the Sowell people are very kind and professional. I would recommend them to anyone that asks. Very Pleased!

My family has been friends with the Sowells for over 20 years. I'm surprised at the negative reviews for this company. I currently have items in storage with them. I've also used them twice for moving. Both times, the movers were wonderful even going as far to hang a couple of pictures on the wall for me. Moving is stressful and communication is key. They've been really good!

First off, the good: The crew that moved our goods in was fantastic, took great care not to damage our stuff or the house. The bad: The office and admin leaves a lot to be desired. After we arrived in California, we were informed that our goods were in storage and they would not be able to deliver 1.5 weeks until after the scheduled date; leaving me and my 6 mo pregnant sleeping on air mattresses. On delivery day, and they only brought half (including none of the mattresses) and the rest would be brought the next day. We were entitled to a full unpack as a contract of the move; the crew informed us they would unpack what we asked that day and gladly return at a later date to pick up the rest of the boxes, if we’d like. Armed with that, we only asked the crew to unpack ~10% and worked through the rest of the next few weeks.Upon finishing, I called the office and it took about a week of leaving voicemails to finally get a hold of anybody with decision authority, who informed me about their crew misspoke and they will not be returning, leaving us with a mountain of boxes that Sowell was paid to remove.Again, the crew was great, but I’d use somebody else

Perfect communication. Fantastic crew. No breakage. Jeremie was so careful and directed every crew member how to perfectly care for and load our numerous fragile antiques and glass objects. Best move we have ever had. Ask for Jeremie if you can wait until he is available.

I had a terrific experience with Ernie's Moving and Storage...this was a complicated move with stuff leaving my house, some things going into a storage unit and other items leaving the storage unit and then going to the ultimate destination. Everything made it to its correct place and nothing was damaged. Henry and Bryson were courteous, efficient and careful with our belongings. Would recommend and use them again.

I needed to make that call to find movers for our out of state move. I had just received a card in the mail for Ernies Van & Storage so I gave them a call. The phone call put me at ease with the whole process and I made an appointment for an estimate. Kevin came to our home and walked me thru their moving process. Since I had not moved for 40 years I was so happy for his expertise and time answering all my questions. I received a prompt estimate of costs and decided to go with Ernies Van & Storage. Prior to move I called with questions and staff very helpful. Moving day arrives and 3 guys pack up boxes and furniture and also go to our storage unit to get everything. They too were professional, took time to answer questions and make suggestions. It was so amazing to have such a great company of people guiding us in this new adventure. We received a call to deliver our things and set the date! Again Ernies Van & Storage arrived on time and brought our things into our new home. They worked as a team and were very helpful and kind. The job was done and we are so pleased with this great company! So happy we got their card in the mail! If you are moving call Ernies Van & Storage!

This outfit was highly recommended by a very reputable person in my community. I never imagined they were rated 3.5 stars with 15 of 54 ratings 1 star All of the poor ratings went the same way for me Including: 1)payment prior to completion 2)Overcharging: $27 for 1 kitchen dish pack box, $100 fuel- they came to my house approx 10 miles and loaded my trailer 3)understaffed and not proper equipment o load hot tub that was discussed the day before confirming move, at initial estimate and when move date was scheduled 4)walking items over 100 yards to my trailer because the truck the came in had leaking tire. I offered compressor to fill leaky tire, they refused 5)Vaping outside front door and smell coming into my house 6)leaving unused packing material that I was charged for 7)items dumped into boxes, bent and broken when opened 8)worker injured falling down stairs destroying file cabinet, they never offered any compensation I personally met Ernie Sowell several times and can only imagine how embarrassed He would be of his family for conducting business this way in a community that he grew a great reputation in

We moved recently from Truckee to Southern California. The estimate we received was a not to exceed amount and they kept it at that amount. Staff were great in Truckee and in Southern CA. Kevin was the lead and driver and did a great job. We appreciated the communication from them on both sides of this move. A really good experience and we appreciated their reliability too.

If you want on time, meticulous professionals packing and moving your belongings, you can rely on this company's staff! Great pre and post communications as well. A special commendation to team leader Gabe and his 2 coworkers Steven and Izzy who were a pleasure to work with! Mine was an interstate move during rainy season ( CA to OR) and nothing got damaged or wet: fantastic job! Very appreciative, Donna

UPDATE: The manager Matt, called me and apologized for the entire incident. He has made good on the original estimate and has apologized for things falling thru the cracks. I appreciate him taking the responsibility and fixing it.I have removed my original review due to the company owning up to the errors and fixing them. Kudos for being responsible.

Do not use Ernie's Van & Storage if you want to work with professionals. I have moved five times in the past 10 years and this was by far the worst service I have ever experienced. The movers were rude, argumentative, and disrespectful to both me and my husband. Prior to our move, I spoke with the moving coordinator about covid protocol. He said it was up to the customer if the moving team would be required to wear masks indoors. I clearly stated we wanted everyone, including my husband and I, to wear masks indoors. Michael said he would notify the team. He did not. So each day (3 total) the employees showed up not expecting to wear masks and argued with us. When we were moving into our new house, they played loud music all day and would not turn it down to a reasonable level. They also left cigarette butts all over the street. The employees argued with each other all day too. Additionally, we were never offered insurance or given the opportunity to list any high-value items. In fact, when the document was given to us at the end of the move, someone other than my husband or me, had written "NONE" on the high-value form. Worst movers ever. Zero stars.

We had three men from Ernie's to complete our move from Cascade Shores into the downtown Nevada City area. Their responsibilities included our heaviest furniture and a Steinway Grand that I dote on. I was anxious about it, but these three did an outstanding job with a friendly, fun attitude. Even when my husband and I changed our minds and had them move the piano to a different part of the room, they didn't complain but got back to work and didn't stop until we were completely satisfied. Thank you!

The company requested full payment upfront and I have never had a company do that. Broke my 43 inch t.v. during the move and although I returned many of the boxes, companyvhas not returned any of the upfront costs

Beware of Ernie’s Moving and Storage – Grass Valley Ca, Reno NV The day of pick up Ernie’s Moving sent their people out to pick up my goods to move it two their warehouse. This was after I was assured at signing that they would use their own driver and truck to handle my goods and get them there on the requested delivery date. (Five truck loads that day) Goods were moved to the warehouse off loaded to be loaded on a different truck two days later. Double and triple handling. This caused broken, bent and missing wheels, torn seats, broken cabinet bases, two destroyed book cases, damaged furniture ( 15 items) and a missing key safe. (10 sets of car keys & remotes). Also that day the goods recorder person was given an old Ipad to record my goods on a new program first time seeing it with no training. Some items did not get recorded, what the program did not provide as an description they guessed on what category it could go in. Most of the, time not even close. At the end I was told to sign the electronic list with no way to review, since the operator could not get the program to do what he wanted it to do. He had to make multiple calls for help. He could not get the list to email to me but, promised me I would get it that night day of signing. Had to call next week to get sent to me. It was very hard to read mostly numbers no real descriptions. They got to the house to unload the goods two days after discussed and then realized that they did not want to back down the driveway to unload and considered it to far to push items to the house. They wanted $1950.00 right then or they would not unload it and take it to storage where I would pay storage fees until I paid the money. Ernie’s attitude from their grass valley office was you need us since we have your money, we do not need you. I refused and told them to unload it on the driveway and I would move it. I got a call back from them stating that I could not make a clam if I moved the goods. Even through the driver was making notes of the damaged items while it was coming off the truck. My friends and I helped the delivery team move the goods. Thanks to the driver being an asset to Atlas Van lines he made the decision to move the goods into the house and complete the contract. I made a call about the missing safe the next day and have not heard back from them. No effort from them to issue insurance form or offer any kind of help on the goods they damaged. Ernie’s agency hurts the reputation of all the other Atlas Moving Agencies that provide real customer service and make the moving experience a positive experience. Thanks to Jack M*** (Driver not part of Ernie’s) and his delivery team the driver’s professional customer service attitude, the day was not a total disaster.
