I've had to come into animal control for two separate reasons over the last year and the people that work there are just delightful! Very helpful very understanding and kind which is something that is definitely needed in a profession as such. I have also found out that they are in our a no kill shelter, which is pretty awesome and they deserve all the support in the world.

Don’t bother the staff including the control officer we’re rude and self centered they were more concerned with themselves then the safety of my animals in a meet and greet that they scheduled at mid day in 100 degree weather with no adequate safe area for our animals or the animal we were interested in adopting. When asked if they would reschedule at a cooler time period for my elder dogs they refused then when we complied they walked my dogs around on hot pavement for 30 min in hot sun untill I became concerned for my animals The observing official was rude and overbearing with my family and lied stating that our family was a good fit. When we were denied the adoption they stated that we were not a good fit with no explanation as to why. This shelter is a waste of time and a waste of my tax dollars. Recommend going to a shelter to adopt that actually cares about animals these guys are one step above a kill shelter

I have never been discriminated more during an interview process. I had just put down my dear baby jade - an older dog, due to pneumonia and was ready for a new love. I don’t want to play the “race” card in good ol’ grass valley, but never has this experience in Sacramento…but my application was subject to Facebook searches trying to find pictures of me and others?, denial because someone “sounded young” - and that my application went through other confirmation steps that others had not, then saying they were going to call another person and when I followed up, they never did. So sad they don’t have the doggies best interest at heart - but instead make a very personal weird experience for anyone adopting - and they don’t do adoptee holds, yet allow someone to put a hold on a dog until they could drag their husband to see…so a doggy could miss out on a home because your husband-like what? As well as walking into thee most unfriendly and rude staff, and an ancient front desk lady who can barley hear. Then stopped picking up the phone!

I had the most memorable adoption experience ever, adopting my new little girl, "Pixel", (have since changed her name to Pogo, cuz she jumps up and down like a pogo stick when I walk through the door). The amazingly intuitive and caring staff let me take my other dog on a leash and walk them together to see if they were compatible, which was smart and proved effective:) They're best pals now. The shelter was clean, The dogs are free to move in and outside, which I've never seen before. My Animal Shelter & Control adoption experience will never be forgotten. They are all very special people.

The people at this shelter have been really wonderful, so much that i decided to volunteer to walk dogs and donate homemade beds for cats and dogs. I see how they take the time to find the perfect matches for all the wonderful animals they have there. They have a great trainer who offers his services for any one who adopts. They keep the place clean and do everything they can to ensure their animals are as happy as can be until they find their forever home. A great shelter!!!

What loving caring employees. To my understanding this is a no-kill shelter and they take the time to really care for the animals and find homes for them. They had been closed on weekends but due to demand they have changed their hours and now are open on Saturdays when many families are available to come look. They are always so thankful of any donations.

Called to see if they had any epileptic dogs and the lady that answered hung up after I asked if they had any.

Wonderful staff! We just adopted our little guy from the shelter they run and had a really awesome experience. We have a little one so we went there several times over the course of a few weeks to get to know the dogs and make sure we were adopting a dog who was a good fit for our family. The staff was very supportive and helped us find our perfect little guy. You can really tell that they spend time with and know all of the animals that they care for really well. They also have a clean facility and have the animals on a good diet which is awesome. We couldn't be happier with the new addition to our little family!! Thank you guys!

Extremely rude and wouldnt let me adopt a cat cus my neighbor had a dog. Well if all you adoptions were based on that no body would be adopting anything from them the lady waa rude and argumentative.

I have had the horrible experience of going to the grass valley animal control 2 times now. I have grown up in grass valley my entire life and I have always heard how rudely the employees treated people who come there. Well let me tell you they act like dog nazis. When you first walk in they give you a look like what the hell do you want. They talk down to you and act as if you are under there control when you are there. I had them personally tell me that since this was the second time my dog has got out that I was not a good dog owner and they said we will see me soon then laughed at me. ( FYI ) The UPS driver did not close the gate at our house and that was how my dog got out this last time. The time before that a tree fell and knocked my fence down. Some pretty normal stuff after owning my dog for 10 years. There really is no excuse for the degrading way they treat people who go there to pick up ther dogs. As if that is not bad enough they only except cash or check, no plastic! By the time your paying them over $200 for picking up your dog as I did the fact that you have to carry a check book on you or have to leave to go to an atm is quite inconvenient. Overall it is time we all do something to get the right people behind the desk at animal control here in Grass Valley. And if we do not, then if you have to go to Grass Valley Animal control please record the experience and upload it to YouTube so everyone can see how bad it is. I wish I read a post like this before I went and recorded my experience. Whoever is in charge of putting people like that behind the desk at animal control desk should loose there job! These are not the type of California state employees that we need. We deserve better.

Limited hours meant a few attempts to catch them open, but they were very helpful and more affordable than other options. The dog I adopted is wonderful, and I really appreciate the work they did getting him to me.

We adopted several beloved pets here. We also had assistance with skunk capture advice and feral kittens born under our house. The dark haired lady makes it very uncomfortable. She refuses farms adoption, believing pets should be indoor only. Or dead. It us a kill shelter so resisting adoption to loving homes seems evil.
