We loved our experience with the Ford Maverick campervan! It acted as an awesome home on wheels and vehicle combo. We did unfortunately have an incident with the van needing to visit a repair shop. Escape Campervans roadside assistance promptly made accommodations for us and had the vehicle repaired overnight. We would absolutely use this company again!

This was our second time renting. Everything was wonderful. Made our trip so much more relaxed not having to set up tents! Already planning our next camper an vacation!

I am disappointed with the Escape Campervan experience overall. My negative experience relates to hidden costs and unhelpful staff who couldn't explain extra charges.Escape charge you for extra mileage over 100 miles a day. We knew this up front, but what they don't tell you is that they charge more than advertised on their website (30 cents per mile doesn't include tax). Also, they double dip when counting the days when compared to their insurance charge. So for example, we received 28 days of mileage but paid for 29 days of insurance. In both instances, the customer pays more. I pointed this out and although the customer service rep agreed it was contradictory, the company policies prevented them from being able to do anything about it.Basically there is a lack of transparency. I understand tax is sometimes added to costs but this should be outlined on their website (it's not) or just included in the charge. I bet mileage refunds don't also include a tax top up, but charges do. If you drive an extra 1000 miles at 30 cents a mile you should expect to pay $300 extra. In our case what we paid was significantly more. And the company can't have it both ways - either we had the van for 28 days or 29, which is it? It can't be 29 when charging for insurance but only 28 when allocating mileage. It's shady money grabbing practise and a poor experience. It is a shame because the van largely served it's purpose (although with almost 350,000 miles on the clock there were times it didn't feel particularly safe), and we had a good time when we were on the road. But money grabs like this leave a bad taste in your mouth.Honestly, I wouldn't recommend Escape to a friend. There's too many poor policies that aren't transparent and exist to extract more money from you. I expect Escape will come up with some clever reason why they are right to do what they do, but from my point of view I was hit with unexpected charges in the hundreds of dollars despite reading through all the info on their website, and I'm disappointed at the experience.

So nice we booked them TWICE! We absolutely LOVE traveling the west coast with an Escape Campervan. The setup is PERFECT. It’s so easy to move around inside the Maverick with two people. There’s plenty of seating with a table, and it’s super easy to convert it to a bed. The back kitchen area is set up for easy access from the back. Having a fridge makes it sooo easy to store food, and the propane stove makes it easy to cook on the fly. Both times we rented, the vans ran FANTASTIC. No issues at all. The locker where you can pick up camp supplies that other travelers have donated is a HUGE help! We love finding treasures in there, and love leaving some for the next person. The mural art on the vans was the biggest draw for us, because we are artists ourselves. It’s luck of the draw which one you get. Our first one was a bit corny but it grew on us. Our second one was the Eyecatcher van and I’ve never been more proud to drive around in something before. The paint job was stunning! Will book every time we go to the west coast!

We picked up in San Francisco. Easy check-in process, we got there earlier than our check-in time and they were able to process us early. We drove up Highway 1 to Redwood NP, then Crater Lake NP then Mt. Rainier NP and ended in Seatle. We had 8 nights in the van. Our rate was for 100 miles a day and we ended with about ~1500 miles total, so we had to pay an additional $236. Worth it in our opinion. The bed set is nice, if you get cold/colder environment you may need another blanket. The kitchen set is good as well, we bought a few more sponges. We could have used another dish towel. We rented the heater and electrical kit but didn't use it. We didn't have any campsites that had outlets (oops). We had no mechanical issues. We would do it again, such a neat idea!

We traveled and camped with a Big Sur van for 4 weeks. It was very comfortable, we could drive to and camp on all the places we wanted to.Escape campervans made us happy campers!

Just did my second trip with escape campervans in the Escape Mavericks van and it was great. The van was in great condition and we had no problems with any equipment etc. Pickup was easy as was dropoff and the staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. We had three of us in our 20s and got the rooftop sleeper. The rooftop sleeper can sleep 2 shorter people or 1 taller person. I am 6'1 and I could have shared the rooftop, but it would have been pretty tight. All around great experience and we are already planning our third trip.

very friendly rental service, communication was always kind and efficient. Paintings of the cars look amazing and make it easy to find on a larger parking ground. We picked up in San Francisco and dropped off in Los Angeles. The location in San Francisco is quite far out, the one in LA is not far from the airport. We chose the Maverick with the additional rooftop tent. It was rather easy to drive and even had acoustic parking assistance in the back. The mirrors are big and provide a quite good overview of the car. I would recommend to close the curtains when driving because you have a better view to your right when changing lanes. The rooftop tent is quite easy to set up but I would say you need two people to take it down since it wasn't that easy to close. The size of the bed inside is quite comfortable even for bigger, and larger people. We had enough space to store our suitcases behind the seats/ on the space between the bed and the kitchen. The only thing I would complain about is the fridge. It didn't close properly and created a quite some heat and even condensation in two shelves which is not ideal for storing food there. It wasn't terrible though, just some inconvenience. We really enjoyed our time on the trip and were really happy about the fun painting we had on the car.

I have been on six trips with a Escape, and I absolutely love them! I refer them to everyone I know. I don’t know of any other company that lets you pick up and drop off a campervan in two different locations, which makes it easier to cover a lot more ground on a road trip! The staff and customer service make renting a breeze. The size of Escape vans (compared to RVs) give you unlimited flexibility during your trip. You can parallel park and explore cities, yet also drive down gravel roads to your campsite. They honestly made me fall in love with camping. I would buy my own campervan, but it just doesn’t make sense considering I can fly into so many major cities, pick up a van and go! I don’t have to drive across the country to see everything I want. 1000/10 reccomend!

Absolutely wonderful! Pick up and drop off were super easy. The Bay Area depot has older vans - wish we had picked up in Salt Lake. But that didn’t deter us from having the BEST time. Bed was comfy. Kitchen was equipped.

Rented the Del Mar camper from Escape Campervans San Francisco for a week at the beginning of June. From booking to drop-off everything went smoothly. There were 2 adults and 3 kids (5 to 11yrs old) and the Del Mar was perfect. It was spotless, fully kitted out and had plenty of space for the lot of us and all our clothes etc. Very comfortable and would definitely rent it again.Escape were excellent to deal with and their customer service was exceptional - we noticed after booking that they did a special offer for new bookings, I rang and they honoured the new price on our existing booking, saved us a couple of hundred dollars. Special mention to Joseph in the San Fran depot who was a pleasure to deal with.Would highly recommend Escape Campervans, and looking forward to the next trip!

I just spent 3 weeks in a Del Mar with my husband and 3 kids and it was the experience of a lifetime. We picked up in SF and dropped off in Seattle. These vans are so well thought-out and setting up and breaking down was a breeze. Plus we slept so well!!! We are already planning our next adventure.

When it comes to renting a car or van, experiences are often very mixed. You are afraid of getting screwed over by rental companies… After some research we found Escape and it seemed very legit. We decided to book a van (Big Sur) from San Francisco and drop off in Los Angeles. It was a very easy proces from pick-up to delivery. The staff made us feel comfortable and took away any doubts we had about getting ripped of. I therefore highly recommend Escape!? No stress, just a fun and smooth holiday. Thanks a lot guys!

Overall I had a great experience with the van. I paid about $160/day which gave me a vehicle and a bed and a mini fridge. I didn't even end of using the burner/kitchenette area in the back (because I ate out at all the yummy vegan restaurants in Cali) but the bed was comfy. Taking showers is a struggle but to have a car and bed in one is very convenient and saves money. Overall the van was great!

Let me preface this by saying I am not someone who typically complains or takes time out of their day to write a bad review. This is a special situation. My wife and I booked an Escape Maverick van in San Francisco in April. Upon arrival, we were given a clunker van that looked to be more than 20 years old. It had 336,000+ miles on it and would shake anytime we drove over 50 miles per hour. Additionally, we had to stop at Walmart to buy Febreeze /air fresheners because the van smelled like vomit. But again, I am not a complainer and we dealt with it. Upon returning the van, the lady at the front desk attempted to charge us over 100$ for a chip in the windshield. Mind you, this van had marks/scratches everywhere, and the lady said she would not waive the chipped windshield cost. Lucky for me, I took video of the entire van (exterior and interior) prior to leaving on the first day and was able to capture the chip in the window and have the additional cost removed. If I did not have that video evidence, I would have been out 100+$. Lastly, I received an email two days ago from Escape stating we had used a toll (Golden Gate Bridge) and would have to pay for the charge. When we rented the van, I was told as much, and had no problem paying the 9$ or so for the toll. However, Escape never emailed/text/called me about the charge (or told me there was a pending charge), and the only communication I received stated that I used a toll and had to pay it ALONG WITH a 2$ "3rd party administration" fee and a 30$ "Admin" Fee. So, a 9$ toll became 41$. I have used 3 other campervan/RV companies in the past few years (Travelers Autobarn, Wandervans, and Cruise America) and have never had an issue with any of them. My suggestion to you all is to do your due diligence and look elsewhere when booking a campervan.
