Schafer Park is a non-smoking park that is great. It is an in-close park with a double gate that visitors can close so kids or pets don't get out. Most of the time it is fairly clean of debris and trash and is fairly well maintained as far as the grass being cut. The park features two little playgrounds for the kids, one shaded and the other not. The playgrounds have monkey bars and slides in a sand pit, but there are no swings or teeter-totters. For picnics, there are three cement picnic tables underneath some trees, however there are no barbecue pits. A garbage can is available. A noted downside is that there is no drinking fountain, water access, or bathroom. Some visitors recommend going after 9:30 to avoid school traffic on weekdays. Occasionally there is a little bit of trash there.
