My mixed breed dog came from the time he was 4 months old until he passed at age 13 1/2 years-old from genetic complications and old age. I owe a great deal of his good health to Centinela Animal Hospital. While I see other people had less ideal experiences, I had the complete opposite and agree with all the positive reviews. I recommend every single pet owner I know to Centinela. I want to share my experience in the hopes of encouraging people to use their veterinary care: When I first adopted my dog, my number one goal was to have his whole health in mind. This hospital was recommended to me by the rescuer who I adopted him from. I was looking for conventional veterinary care in conjunction with holistic care and Dr. Palmquist is a leader in this approach. His book, "Releasing Your Pet's Hidden Health Potential," I found to not only be ahead of its time but also spoke to the kind of relationship I wanted with my dog having come from a childhood of backyard dogs who were barely taken to the vet or fed in an appropriate way. I understand that caring for pets is costly. And many people who adopt are limited in what they can provide for their animals yet still give them loving homes. I was privileged and lucky to be able to approach my dog's health in the way that I did. I also got pet insurance that covered our yearly vet visits and it came in really handy when my dog needed more care. But what was surprising is that many of the tips and advice I got from the doctors at Centinela was practical and incredibly cost effective, preventing me from having more costly care in the long run. As a puppy Dr. Johnson noticed my pup had a genetic heart murmur and she kept an eye on it while encouraging me to be vigilant as well. I followed her advice. Because of it I was able to catch early signs of complications in his last year and a half which allowed Centinela to refer us to another hospital for their cardiology department. They worked side-by-side. They were in constant communication about my dog's heart condition, medications, x-rays and ECGs. As his heart disease progressed, Dr. Palmquist continually encouraged me to trust the advice and treatments from my dog's cardiologist. Dr. Johnson also noticed early signs of spinal issues when he was a pup because of my dog's anatomy. With an X-Ray she could tell his spine was starting to wear down when he was young because he liked to play hard and hike. She warned me about IVDD, prescribing the use of dog ramps while monitoring activity that would lead to slipped discs. During his life, my dog only had two spine flare ups. When he did Dr. Palmquist prescribed pain medication, rest, plus herbs that helped my dog not only bounce back but supported key organs in his recovery. In my dog's last six months, his genetic predispositions and age started to present much bigger issues. Dr. Palmquist prescribed supplements and herbs that supported my dog's brain and specific organs as they started to work harder due to his medications. It kept my dog's energy levels high. By his happiness, playfulness and stamina, no one could tell that my dog was dealing with any health issues -- not even my dog who kept doing every activity he loved within reason. In fact many people would stop us to ask how old he was because he acted more like a puppy. In the last month of his life, my dog's health took sharp turn. It was uncertain whether he could or would recover. It was heart breaking and emotional. Dr. Palmquist was incredibly empathetic. Though he hoped we would still have a few more years, Dr. Palmquist gave me advice that prepared me for the inevitable while also telling me to enjoy every day my dog and I had left together. And we did. When my dog passed, the doctors sent me sympathy cards. In all the years that we were here, Dr. Palmquist, Dr. Johnson and Dr. Orme each examined my sweet boy and gave him the best quality of care. The whole staff -- front desk assistants, vet techs and vet assistants -- every person was compassionate, helpful and car

We have been taking our soon to be 10yr old Chihuahua to Dr Palmquist and Dr Johnson for 3yrs (since moving to LA). We now have a puppy and she too is now a patient. We love the care our dogs receive and the way the Drs explain everything to us. The tech assistants are also awesome. Highly recommend this Veterinary Hospital. They don't do any surgeries but their recommendation for teeth cleaning was right on!

THIS IS THE BEST HOSPITAL IN LA. I came to this vet because it was the closest one to my apartment and it had good reviews but I am completely BLOWN away by how amazing each person I encountered was. Every single person on the staff team today had such sweet and kind vibes and they truly seemed to care about what was going on with my dog. There was minimal wait time and they allow you to wait in your car while they bring you medicine/send someone to talk about the exam results. Everyone was so kind and I felt truly heard. Everyone here really cares about animals and you can tell! I loved my experience here SO much. Their prices are SO reasonable and they are not money-hungry at all. The staff here are literally angels and I will forever rave about Centinela Animal Hospital to all animal parents I encounter. This was my first vet experience in a long time and it truly made my entire day :) oh I also met a nice lady in the waiting area that said she drives all the way from the valley because they were the best. They truly are THE BEST.

Dr. Richard Palmquist is amazing! He allowed me to bring my Cane Corso in for a same day appt. do to a semi emergency situation. He provided the very best of care and had a genuine concern & interest in my pet's health & recovery. His entire staff was also very professional, kind & attentive. I am so pleased & highly recommend. By the way, my dog's regular doc. offered me an appointment 4 days out when I called.... I will not be returning to that office, I've found our new home for fantastic care!!

I have taken my cats here to see Dr. Palmquist, and he is amazing. He is very knowledgeable, and his bedside manners are awesome. He takes time to explain things. You never feel rushed. He has a great staff very polite and on time with things. This place is the best in Los Angeles and it's because of Dr.. Palmquist.
Oh, and the prices are very reasonable compared to other vets / organizations.

Dr Palmquist provided a holistic approach to solving my dog's kidney issues and her skin allergies. Western medicine vets had ridden her kidney issue off with renal failure but after 2 days of kidney/bladder herbs and a modified diet of veggies and kidney-friendly foods, my 11 yr old shepard mix began to drink less water and pee less (was going on for 9 days) and within a week of these herbs and dietary modificatio, she's back to normal. Dr Palmquist is the vet to see. He's eccentric but only in a way that serves your pet's real needs. Love him! I saved money by prognosis and solutions that work rather than cause other issues or mask symptoms.

Dr. Palmquist and the staff at Centinela Animal Hospital are truly wonderful. Over the years, It's still the same staff, which is a Very good sign for any business, and comforting to see familiar caring faces for us and for the pets. They know and care for my dog and are conscientious even when it comes to billing. Other vets had dismissed his issues with antibiotics and painkillers but Dr. Palmquist was able to properly diagnose and treat. More recently, we almost lost our 14 year old lab, but the team did everything they could. They made sure he had a calm and comfortable environment which was so important for us and to ease Buddy's fears. After 3 days of being hospitalized there during the day, they saved him and gave us excellent after care instructions and wanted us to follow up as soon as they opened after the weekend. They are also great at and knowledgeable about incorporating herbs and other complimentary forms of medicine. Truly a Godsend that independent places like this still exist. Thank you Centinela Animal Hospital!

My dog was bleeding they made me wait 2 hours and still didn't see my dog then put me on the list to not be serviced because I let the front desk have it for being so unprofessional.. it's okay I don't care if they banned me but even if they don't like me they shouldn't mistreat my dog I wish I could have this place shut down
