A hiking trail begins next to the farm. You can have an interesting time taking a walk around a farm with a long history before or after starting your hike.

Starting point of hike to Tomales Point, a good place to visit but not very special.

Ranch was an educational and interesting history lesson. Gorgeous setting. Hiked the trail to see the tule elk. Great work out, beautiful scenery as we must have had one of the best days - 60ish, bright sunshine and mild cooling breeze which was welcome as we were hiking.

Yep, it was a ranch once and then it became a dairy farm. What remains are some well-preserved remnants of the 19th-century dairy farm that thrived here. I guess they were famous for their butter. Gee, maybe they could've set up a butter shop here to entice visitors to come here. Like a Casa de Butter versus a Casa De Fruta (review: bit.ly/3GpsrmS).Instead, there are interpretive signs which describe the history and function of the various buildings in the ranch complex. But let's get real. The only reason I came here was that it serves as the starting point for the Tomales Point Trail (review: bit.ly/3GpsrmS). The ranch just doesn't have enough to be an attraction on its own.RELATED - Exploring north of San Francisco'? Here's a collection of places I've visited and reviewed: bit.ly/2tIHlkV

Piece Point Ranch is one of the oldest ranches in the area. The ranch started its operations in the 1800s. The butter produced by the ranch was considered of very good quality. The ranch ceased operating in early 1970s.The NPS has done a very good job of maintaining the ranch. A nice piece of history to visit when you are visiting the area.

This review applies only to the ranch. The buildings are not that well maintained (though I suppose they're still structurally sound, probably?), and they're rather dirty. Not that much to see at the ranch itself. You also can't go into any of the buildings except the barn. If you peek through the schoolhouse windows, you'll see it's being used for storage (?). The descriptive signs read like a school report -- not that informative, not that much history. Most of them appear to cite the same article. The road up to the ranch is also old + bumpy; my dog almost got carsick on the way up. The drive itself also is not very scenic, though I added 1 star for the cows we saw along on the way.Not ranch related: I imagine if you're here for the Tomales Bay hike + see any elk on the way, it might be a better experience. Nevertheless, all in all this ranch wasn't worth the 1 hour drive. (Heads up that the hikes starting here don't allow dogs, which is likely biasing my review as we weren't able to see or do anything other than walk about the ranch for 20 minutes.)

Very popular hiking trail. Most people however neglected to visit the ranch itself. As the area suffers from severe drought, it will probably be better to visit during winter

Amazed at how well kept the building are. Placards give backstory on a lot of the structures here

Foggy day out at the thule Elk grove. We arrived early. First car in the lot around 7 AM on a Tuesday morning and we had the trail (an out and back) all to ourselves until we headed back. Saw alot of Elk (although the fog doesn't produce the best photographs) and many of the males with their splendid antlers were near the trail this morning. Pretty, wild trumpet tulips in bloom. Perfect temps for the hike. The Pierce Pt. Farm is well maintained and offers a look into the dairy farm that was built in 1878. Now that I finally made it out here, I cannot wait to come back. No water or toilets so be prepared.

A beautiful and historic set of buildings once belonging to a successful dairy ranch on the tip of Pt. Reyes Peninsula. There is a parking lot and porta potties but no running water. If you walk down the closed-to-car road you can access a trai (.5 miles)l that takes you to a beautiful beach.
