My wife and I have visited Castle Oaks for breakfast and lunch on several occasions, the meals have always been delicious, the service was prompt and the staff are welcoming and professional.

I've been holding off writing a review thinking things would get better but it has not happened. I think there is new management a this course and things are going down hill. The course is noticeably not being maintained both on the fairways and on the greens. The driving range is hit or miss whether it is open or not which makes no sense if you just want to hit balls. I do not understand why they would turn people away from hitting balls when they have them in the machine but do not want to pick them up on the day you are hitting, simply pick them up the following morning. I understand that the range will now be closing at 3pm which also makes no sense to me as well since the shop is open past 5pm. There is obviously less golfers on the course now so that is a plus, just not for the business. The customer service has definitely gone down the last 6 months and it almost feels intentional. I hope things turn around soon as this has always been a wonderful course in the past.

Staff are amazing here. Nee restaurant manager is turning it around. Food is mid price and portions are substantial. Prime rib and special dinners on Friday and Saturday. Beer and spirits moderately priced.

An honest, must read review from a local! My brother, dad and I have been playing golf here for two decades. This Saturday we brought out a buddy to enjoy a weekend round and some cocktails. The green fee was $68 a player and we were provided a beautiful view of a driving range that hadn't been cut in weeks, with dead spots from broken sprinklers everywhere. After our breakfast, we teed off and the course was an absolute joke. The fairways hadn't been cut in a while and had broken sprinklers on every hole, making it wetter than winter conditions. The rough was the same, even 6" to 8" in some places. The bunkers have never been good, but they should be classified as waste bunkers now, as there are more rocks, weeds and wasp nests than sand. If you're a player, avoid the back tees, as the trees often hang over the tee box, on a line that would be the middle of the fairway. There are also an ungodly amount of trees that aren't trimmed that hang over the fairway and rough, making a decent drive unplayable, unless you're a cheater! Lastly, the greens which are normally pretty good, were terrible. I'm guessing they weren't cut on a Saturday which is unacceptable, they're over watered and had flags placed in the worst spots possible. These spots included where old scalped cups were at and gopher holes. Castle Oaks is all we have in Amador County, but it's a damn shame the condition has become this bad. It's truly sad and not event close to being worth the price. Get your shit together Castle!

Used play here regularly. Good layout. Course is in so so shape. It is way overpriced. They would do somuch better lowering the price and working on the fairways Had the same experience a year ago and ventured back. Probably be another year ..

This by far, is the most over priced s*** hole of a golf course that I've ever golfed at. $72 for burnt out greens (city has a water issue), disgusting scum filled ponds, and tee boxes that are trash. Played on a Sunday morning and did not even see one golf Marshall or beverage cart. I was not given the code for the locked keypad restrooms upon check in so it is what it is what it is (I'm sure the local community appreciates your lack of service). It's funny that I played here 5 years ago and the same exact hazards in play of the course are still there! Prices go way up and product goes way down. Discounts if you're a local and pay trash member fees because this is the only place within miles to play a round. Range balls are a joke!!! Honestly it's pathetic

We had dinner at the restaurant for our first time last month and it was delicious! The service was great and the Christmas decorations were beautiful.

I've been playing as a single there every weekend for the last few months. I am new to the area. I've mostly spent my golf money there because it's nearby and It's been fun getting familiar with the course. Castle has some memorable holes and challenges, but it is also has generous, wide fairways. The course is in mostly good shape and gets better after it rains. However, many of the bunkers do really suck. Playing pace is slow unless you get out early. Good driving range. Good breakfast, snack bar. Service for the most part has also been good, friendly until today. I called to get a time for this weekend and apparently Nate was having a crappy day - I made a reservation but his "Let me be as unhelpful as possible" attitude bothered me enough that I called back minutes later to cancel. I'm actually grateful to him. A few different people that I've been paired up with suggested I should check out Locantena and a few other nearby courses. So I decided to play somewhere else this weekend and take a break from Castle for awhile. Update 12/6 - I really enjoyed Locantena - fun, fast round, course is challenging and in good shape. I also like that I am able to book online as a single player to get an early t-time. I'll post a review for them after I play there a few more times.

By far the worst maintained course I've played in a very long time, and considering the price, don't even f****** bother. The fairways were fuzzy and muddy, the greens are full of burnt out spots, mud spots, and don't look like they've been mown in like 3 days and we played on a Saturday.I wouldn't bother playing here again even if it were free. Please don't support this kind of shitty course management, and hope they fire their superintendent and hire someone competent. The course clearly has potential to be very nice, and it's just being wasted.

This place has gone seriously downhill and I've been coming here about 20 years. I've golfed more at Castle Oaks than any course. Most of the greens were riddled with fungus. The fairways were trashed. The sand traps were filled with water (although there was a severe storm the week before we went). The customer service is average.I can deal with stone faced people working in the golf shop. I can't deal with my feet sinking into the greens like quicksand or trying to putt over fungus filled greens that look cracked like a desert. We paid $60 each for a round and I don't think it's work more than $25.I won't be back.

Was vacationing in the Amador wine country and decided to hit up castle oaks for a round on a Saturday morning. Woke up to a nice sunny day and when we got about 5 minutes from the course to terrible fog and chill. First 12ish holes was with no sun. Not the courses fault but makes it not as fun. The front 9 is a lot of blind shots and dog legs. Was a little tough. Back 9 opens up a little bit and you can see the greens from the tee box mostly. The course overall was decent but was a little disappointed with the greens. They were a little rough with black spots. I would be back just hope for a little better conditions for 56 bucks. OH....one more thing.....even with the rain, fog and chilly weather the greens were still super fast. All of us had a lot of putts that were running hard.
