too bad there's no option to give 0 stars. in the course of researching a warranty issue, i came across the below matter between gateway and the FTC. clearly, gateway has not changed their business practices since 1998 because here in 2022, we have a laptop that's been in use for less than 3 months and the charger no longer works consistently making the laptop useless. "The Federal Trade Commission (F T C) and Gateway entered into a consent order on December 22, 1998. The consent agreement is for settlement purposes only and does not constitute an admission that Gateway violated the law, or that the facts as alleged in the complaint, other than jurisdictional facts, are true. The F T C complaint alleged that Gateway violated Section 5 of the F T C act in three ways:First, Gateway falsely advertised it's policy regarding a 30 day money back guarantee, in that shipping charges were deducted from the refund.Second, Gateway falsely advertised on-site service, when in fact it was only provided after a technician determined that the consumer could not make the repair.Third, Gateway had various charges relating to warranties such as not making them readily available prior to the purchase of a computer, as well as, not including mandatory language regarding the consumer's legal rights in written warranties. As part of the consent order, Gateway has agreed to a $290,000 one-time payment to the United States Treasury to settle allegations.B B B Tip: As with any technical purchase, consumers should be aware of the policies regarding returns, on-site service and warranties and the limits of the warranties prior to purchase."

Wow, I just went to their website and found that they have a chat service for assistance. I started chatting with someone just to ask a question. A simple question about what the error code of blinking lights means and the response I got after repeatedly being told to go to a computer tech for help is as follows: Customer: I will, I'm asking what the 5 blinking lights means S: I am so sorry, We doesn't aware of the hardware function and this is a hardware functioning . Please contact the local store to fix it or to take care of this issue. Customer: this is an error code established by Gateway and yet you are telling me that you do not know what it means? S: We doesn't know what that means, Because We are here to handle only the software related issue. So Please contact the local technician and ask them regard the computer problem. And yet their website clearly says chat here with a professional. Besides I was talking with Gateway not Microsoft who would be the software company I would need if I was having a software problem. I don't understand their problem with helping their customers.

The worst equipment I have ever bought, it barely lasted 1 year. Their excuse for this? Saying technology changes so quickly so that the time it dies (they plan on it dying in a year) that we will want another computer. Pathetic.

This review is about the website, not necessarily the product(s). I hope Gateway people read these reviews so they can fix the issues. The website says you can get out-of-warranty questions answered by clicking on either 'send an email' or on 'chat' -- either choice requires that you enter serial number or SNID. After entering my SNID, it tells me that the product is no longer in warranty (duh!). There is no way out of this loop. Out-of-warranty chat or email is not possible. Here is the kicker... all I wanted was the answer to a very simple question: I want to know if I can hot-swap the portable (ATA) drives in my FX-6801. I really like the ability to swap ATA drives in and out of the two portable ATA drive bays. Great feature, one of the primary reasons I bought this system. But I really hate to go through the lengthy process of powering off, then back on if it isn't absolutely necessary. Pretty easy question for any support person -- too bad you can't reach one. Come on, Gateway... doesn't anyone test the functions of your website? You are a computer company, after all. Maybe you contracted your website design to the same guys who did the ObamaCare website!

Speaking on behalf of a friend, she bought a gateway, and enabled the anti-theft for the monitor because she didn't want it to be usable if stolen. She recently had to reload her computer back to factory settings, and was unable to use her monitor after that.We have tried to aquire the eztune software to unlock the monitor, but tech support is HORRIBLE!!!!I recommend not buying from gatway.. Save yourself the headaches.

I bought a gateway NE56R27u 4 months ago because I needed a laptop for my work and did not have much money. "WHAT A BIG MISTAKE" I NOW OWN A $400.00 DOLLAR PAPER WEIGHT. When people ask me about my laptop and ask me how I like it I tell them that it was a mistake and I regret buying it I am now saving up for a for a different laptop and it will NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! be a gateway, Take my advice gateway support does not and will not help you after you buy there product & if you buy a gateway you will regret it. after I buy another laptop I am going to throw this one in the trash, because its not worth $4.98 let alone the $400.00 dollars I spent on it on a scale of 1-10 I give it a BIG neg. 8

I purchased a Gateway netbook through HSN and it is something I will never do again. They have the worst customer service I have ever seen. The quality of there products is also second rate as well. I have had to send my computer in for repair at least 4 times over the 2 years I have had my computer. The times I have called them it has always been impossible to talk to a real person without having to waste a great amount of time and they always seem to be trying to force you to sign up for some type of payment plan where you have to pay to get any sort of assistance

It is puzzling why this corporation's favorite color is black after knowing that the black color is the favorite color of evils.

Well, the good news is that I really liked the laptop that I bought from Gateway (ID47H). The bad news is everything which happened since it broke, around a year after buying it. Due to some impact (one that I would consider minor at best...), the LED screen cracked and needed to be repaired. I looked everywhere online for a replacement part so that I could replace it on my own, but was unable to find the part. I finally decided to send the laptop into the Gateway repair service even though it would be a lot more expensive, but it was still better than buying a new laptop. I spoke with their representatives through their website and we scheduled a repair and I shipped it in, and they said that they would repair it in 7-10 business days. Through this time, I was not updated about its status at all, and around 13 business days after they received it, I received a call from them saying that they too did not have the screen to replace, and they would therefore send the laptop back to me unfixed. In addition, I would not be reimbursed for the $50+ that I spent in shipping this laptop to Texas, although they did say that they would cover the shipping back to me. However, I was never supposed to pay for that in the first place, so what kind of concession was that? While I was on the phone, they insisted that I was responsible for shipping both ways and they were actually doing me a favor, but I checked up their initial email afterwards and this was simply not true. They said that if I find out later that they do have the part, I can send it back to them, assuming that I again pay for the shipping. I tried to explain to them that I never would have paid this money for the shipping had they told me upfront that THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PART I NEEDED, so they were basically just gambling with my money. Like I said, the computer that I had was fine, but if you expect them to be upfront and honest if your computer ever needs to be repaired, I suggest that you look elsewhere.

Let me start this by saying Gateway's Rules. I can't believe I am running a 6 year old laptop, and getting Tech support on it 3 years out of warranty. I also can't believe I'm admitting it in my first review. People are going to think I'm a bologna eating shit pants going for this and not a restaurant....not true. Gateway has karma so here you go So, this turkey with the 6 year old laptop, should we listening to him? You decide~ 1st. In 2002 I spent some time shopping and went with Gateway Laptop a Pentium 4, 1.4 GHz processor. Still hot solid silver. Still fast and only until 2008 and Vista will I be getting a new, w/ dual core processor. 2nd they gave me a 3 year warranty, which I thought was plenty long. In my mind I was going to buy a new laptop every three years, as technology and software advanced. 3rd and lastly, they offer me out of warranty support this second weekend in 2008. (This is my first review so it helps to use numbers for my points, what a dork) A. The call that saved my baby started with NOT listening to my drunk (football watching) buddies, as they tried to give me a 1 Gig stick of memory that would have burnt my mother board. 1-800-Gateway My serial number that I have memorized over the years. B. A Tech that listened to me, and my drunken buddies in the background, and patched me through to a Technician, without charging me. C. The Technician that took 15 minuets and found that even though the maximum spec limit online said that two 512 cards equaling 1 gig total was max, that I could 2 1 gigs for a total of 2 gigs! But more importantly, that stick that my buddy had, and was trying to push on me would have ruined my motherboard. God bless you for reading all of this. I wouldn't have
