I went to Monkey Sports today to look at hockey skates -- it's the first time I have ever been there. I have a recently broken ankle and am in a cast, so it was clear I wouldn't be buying skates necessarily today, but I wanted to get an idea of what size and model to get once both of my feet work. If you have ever bought skates, you know what an arduous process it is to find a good fit, which is why I've been stubborn to give up my current skates that I've been using since 1996. It's clear I know absolutely nothing about current skate technology. The customer service at this shop was nothing short of amazing. A store employee, Gavin, sat with me for an hour-and-a-half explaining to me everything I needed to know to find the perfect skate -- despite the fact that it was obvious due to my cast and crutches that I wouldn't even be buying anything today. He helped me try on every top-line skate (for my un-broken foot) in the shop in different fits, different sizes, different insoles, etc. He even talked to me at length about the custom process for the different brands if I decided to go in that direction. I honestly can't say enough about how great Gavin was and how thankful I was to speak with someone so knowledgeable about skates. I've been doing my own research on Reddit and Youtube, but it would have been easier and time-saving to just go in and ask. It's a great store, Gavin was awesome, and the production selection was more than enough for any hockey player. Once I get my foot healed, I'll be back. Thank you!

Terrible customer service. Went this past weekend and was so saddened as I shop here regularly. At the register, the cashier (older gentleman) was annoyed that I asked for a breakdown of cost and what was or wasn't on sale. I'm sorry I made him take out his calculator for spending a couple hundred dollars. I'll stick to Pure Hockey from here on in. Even my wife was taken aback by his poor and terrible customer service skills.

Jayden in the lacrosse restring department provided great service. We had a snapped top string and brought it in Saturday morning. Jayden fixed it, no charge.

This is by far the worst customer service i have ever received. Im honestly surprised. I went in today to buy a bunch of hockey equipment, skates, etc. would have spent around 1k. I got there when the store opened at 10 am to beat any rush. There were 4 guy employees sitting behind a desk just chatting it up and laughing loudly. None of them would help me get skate sizes out from the back. They said they would call someone over. Obviously they didn't cause i had to ask again. And while i was waiting i could hear them laughing. Let me reiterate they were not doing anything or helping any other customers. I waited for almost an hour. Again, they weren't busy or understaffed. I didn't even bother asking for the manager. They wasted enough of my time at that point. I'll go somewhere else tomorrow. Update - went to Pure Hockey in Anaheim. Much better place! They specialize in hockey compared to the monkeys in irvine.

We bought a 250.00 bat and first time out the bat broke hitting a softball. The store just told me to call manufacturer. No customer service or support for the products they sell.

Our son is playing lacrosse for the first time in a few years, so we had to buy him a full kit. Gavin helped us out and was very knowledgeable about the needs of lacrosse. He walked us through the whole setup and did not pressure us with overselling. Thanks for making it a great experience, Gavin.

I wanted to love this store so much! I was shopping for my 9 year old daughter for a softball field mask and softball helmet. After we sadly dusted of the few field masks in stock, we figured out they did not have her size. Then we were off to the helmets. The selection was small and we didn't find her size once again. We tried to ask for help adjusting an adult size mask but the salesperson didn't know how to work a daft ball mask. This place really should be known as a male / baseball store. Maybe or is? The softball section was such a let down to both myself and daughter. We went to Dick's after where the softball gear was heavily and equally represented as the baseball section. We found the color and size for both her helmet and face mask. She enjoyed herself, loved what we found and became even more excited to play softball than ever before. Bottom line, if you're going to carry softball gear please put your heart into it. It means so much to young girls in the game.

Gavin was super helpful and cooperative! He did a fantastic job stringing my shooters on my lacrosse stick as well as taping grip tape along my shaft. Go to him for your taping/stringing needs!

They have quite a good selection of lacrosse equipment and it's nice to be able to try things on instead of ordering online. They have recovered from the pandemic and they have more shoes and equipment in stock.

This is the first time I come to the store. I love the collection of hockey gear. But I hate the store because of its staff. It deserves 1 star. The extra star is for Alex who worked his head off for multiple customers at the skates section. While it's approaching closing hours, a few employees were just enjoying themselves by throwing balls inside the store. I play hockey and am very disappointed that these young dudes showed they could just play sports but care less about their job and customers. The skate sharpening guy is extremely rude. I will not come back again, even shop online. It's a toxic work ethics that the store manager and business owner allow.

Terrible company with no appetite for working with their customers who had a bad experience. I bought a $90 hockey bag via hockey monkey's online store, and the bag had a giant hole in the side after one use. The knuckleheads in the warranty "department" suggested I use skate guards and wouldn't return the money. In short, I use skate guards, and the hole was too big and not a slice, like a skate could cause. I fully realize my $90 is gone - this is now about creating awareness so this doesn't happen to you. Use pure hockey or another store. This company is only cares about their money, not their customers.
