Talk about charm. This nouveau rustic motel has five rooms total, so if you’re coming it’s best to reserve in advance. There are no tv’s, and what seems like a con quickly turns into a boon. We’re all far too addicted to our screens, and we all have streaming on our phones or computers if we must (internet is included). Susan, the owner, is lovely. She’s there 11-1p most days so if you have the opportunity, absolutely talk to her. She’ll chat you up if she sees you most likely. Ask her about her favorite bird named Phoebe. The plants and water features are gorgeous, and the goldfish will come rushing to you when they see you. Charming indeed, and close to everything Joshua Tree, 10/10 indeed.

We really enjoyed our stay at Mojave Sands while in town visiting Joshua Tree National Park. The rooms were clean and well-equipped. We especially enjoyed the outdoor patio area with the relaxing water feature to reduce sounds from the nearby roads. The outdoor area was also really nice.

This is a one of a kind boutique hotel. It calls itself a motel but I think it’s far too special to have that demotion.
I and friends from Canada stayed here after a day in Joshua Tree National Park. This place is in a great location with lots of places to enjoy local color within walking distance. Assuredly the perfect spot to decompress.
We found this place online and the owner was wonderful, over the phone, to book our stay. Everything went exactly as she’d said it would regarding receiving necessary gate codes, etc.
We were not disappointed on arrival; this place is spectacularly special. Literally, a hidden oasis that has been thoughtfully, artistically created to provide a very unique zen experience. We loved the secluded, quiet vibe and it was so beautiful. We used the suite and one of the regular rooms. The suite was a two level masterpiece with plenty of seating, a small kitchen and carefully chosen art pieces that elevate the ambiance. It has picture windows that provide a dynamite view and you’ve got the option to draw blinds for privacy. The beds and linens were so comfortable that my Canadian friend said her husband got the best night sleep here; out of their entire trip to California. My room was perfect. Warm, so comfortable, and with a thoughtful artistic touch. The architectural details of modern, mixing hard and soft with an Asian zen/Americana 50’ vibe.
The icing on the cake was my golden retriever was also welcome. He thoroughly enjoyed having a safe, enclosed area to chill with his humans.
For sure, the next trip to the 29 Palms side of Joshua Tree will include another stay here. Highly recommend here for a very unique, relaxed, pet friendly respite!

It´s really a fun motel to stay at. Susan is very welcoming and helpful and its very conveniently located, just next to the entrance of Joshua Tree. The record player in the room is a very nice touch and you can feel music lovers are running the place. Can highly recommend it

Tried booking a room here over email, but they don't respond, it's like I'm being ignored

We stayed one night but could have easily stayed more. Really fantastic place to stay in Joshua Tree. The room was spacious. The shower was huge! And what water pressure from the rain shower head was like a tropical downpour. Every detail was charming from the typewriter to the record player which actually worked. Listened to Ricki Lee Jones’ Pirates for the first time in years. And on vinyl too. There was a lovely patio with a water fountain and a comfortable bed for sleep after spending the day in the national park. The room even had a French press with ground coffee, an electric kettle to heat water, a small fridge/freezer, and AC. I can’t recommend Mojave Sands enough.

We love staying here. This is our second stay here and it does not disappoint. Details are everywhere with the mid century modern decor and record player (huge selection of records to enjoy too!) We stayed in the largest room last time and it was worth it. This place is like a compound with a huge metal gate, it’s super secure and super private! Your car is inside the gate and this is apocalypse ready 😂 It’s very dark and very quiet at night if there aren’t other guests. I intentionally try to book on weekdays so it’s not too busy but either way we never heard or were disturbed by anyone. The owner personally texts you to give you details and she is so kind and accommodating with any questions. They have a koi pond that my service animal is obsessed with. He loves to walk near it and observe the fish as they swim to greet him. It’s bougie but eclectic and it’s unique enough for those IG photos without being weird at all. Love this place! We will def be back for a third time and many more times when we want to escape humans and be out in the wilderness yet still come back to a cozy pretty place to sleep!

This motel was absolutely lovely to stay in! We came in August and happened to be the only ones there that night, so it was incredibly peaceful and relaxing. Comfortable bed, good AC, great shower, fun record player, and beautiful sort of zen garden with a koi pond. Easy to book and check in/check out. Highly recommend!

Lovely rooms and very friendly owner.
Road is a bit too close and loud but you can get away from the noise if you sit at the big table at the far end of the garden

My stay at the motel was an absolute delight. Imagine unwinding in a peaceful haven, perfect for a rejuvenating weekend escape.
The property boasts a charming gated courtyard, adorned with sculptures, cacti, and the gentle sounds of the koi pond with a fountain. This oasis offers a multitude of cozy nooks, inviting you to connect with fellow travelers or simply lose yourself in a good book with a cup of coffee in hand.
Rooms: Suite 5 offered a generous living area, complete with a kitchenette and a truly expansive bedroom featuring a unique outdoor shower.
There were a few issues with the bathroom though -
Limited toiletries storage: While convenient countertop space was at a minimum, the bathroom did not have an area to store my toiletries. It would be ideal to have a hook or a set of shelves for a guest to use.
For guests staying in Suite 5 - it's important to advise that obtaining hot water in the mornings might require running the faucet for a brief period. Considering California's current water conservation efforts, the implementation of an instant hot water system in Suite 5 could be an environmentally friendly solution, minimizing water waste during the initial wait for hot water.
The shower provided a refreshing experience with conveniently dispensed shampoo and conditioner. While a dedicated shelf for personal toiletries would be a welcome addition, the current setup might be a space-saving measure.
