Shelter Valley is an unincorporated area. Our community center plays an important role for the residents of the valley, organizing our collective voice and expressing our interests to the county, getting grants to supplement the community's emergency preparedness (such as our CERT trailer and being an official cool zone for heat emergencies), providing (rental) meeting places for various other orgs ranging from AA to the Community Church, hosting Saturday Art Workshops that are open to the public, and holding many different social events through which the community bonds. This is the reason Shelter Valley is known as a super organized unicorporated community, one that can advocate for our own interests and welcome our visitors too!

This was one of the rest stops on the Stagecoach Century cycling event. The folks were super nice and it was great to be able to take a lunch break indoors. It is true, small communities really have friend folks and unrivaled hospitality.
