I love this place. I was able to adopt two puppy shepherds and had to foster them, initially i had wanted one puppy but i had to take another one due to being siblings and one of the pups being smaller than the other. I ended up keeping the other puppy, smart dogs too. They helped me in lots of ways to make sure i kept them and did everything right.I thank you guys. Best wishes to puppies to get adopted there.

I had a great experience with this shelter. I came in knowing I wanted a black cat which I know would've been difficult to adopt given that it was Halloween.-When I first entered, there were a few people waiting in line at the front receptionist desk so me and my friend walked past and decided to look around. Walking out the back door I was surprised finding not only a little field (assuming it's for the dogs) but also a butterfly garden and more. -We found the building where only cats were held and started looking around. I found Millie who caught my eye. Her description matched everything I wanted in a cat. Cynthia was the one who helped us out (she was dressed as a black cat!!). She let us meet Millie and was telling us about her personality which made me want her even more. After holding Millie and chatting with Cynthia I decided to take her home. Cynthia took her to the front building to schedule her spaying and get everything set. -The reason I gave this shelter 4 stars is because when Cynthia came back out she told me Millie is a boy (they had female on Millie's description both online and on her cubicle). I want to thank Cynthia for her patience because I was really conflicted given the circumstance so I asked if we can take a look at the cats again and if I can hang out with 'Millie' a little longer. She was understanding even though I made her walk back and forth. Like I said, 'Millie' had everything I wanted in a cat so I decided to overlook the gender and take him home. -The adoption fee wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be (you can find the prices on their website). I renamed Millie to Joon and had to wait until after his neutering to pick him up which was the next day. -Picking him up was a very easy process, the wait wasn't bad either. They gave us a paper with aftercare instructions and a keychain with a microchip that you can attach to any collar. -The photo was after a month of having Joon! He is a happy and healthy cat :)

Dont bring stray cats in to be fixed and released! Brought in 3 strays to be fixed and one of the cats scratched a worker so they put that cat down!! Its a FERAL cat what did you expect?? Don't be a vet if you cant take a scratch from a cat. And you claim to be "non kill" but put feral cats down for scratching. Sad and pathetic. That cat was not a mean cat! Just scared and confused and they decided to kill it.Forgot to mention we were even reassured that NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN TO IT after they had us bring it back to be tested for rabies. They lied about it right to our faces. Dont trust this place.

MONEY HUNGRY BUSINESS!!!ATTENTION!!!!!:- If you are trying to reclaim your pet, DONT!!! It will cost more to reclaim your pet than adopting them. I recently had an experience with this shelter that left me feeling uneasy about their approach to reclaiming your pet. While I understand the importance of holding pet owners accountable, the lack of transparency regarding adoption and RTO fees raises significant concerns.Upon inquiring about adoption costs, I was asked to provide personal information BEFORE being given any pricing details. This felt like a questionable tactic, as I believe transparency should be a fundamental aspect of any responsible animal shelter. What further troubled me was the claim that collecting personal information is to make pet owners accountable. Subsequently, I received a rather unsettling threat - if I didn't pay the RTO (returned to owner) fee, they would send my invoice, complete with personal details, to collections, with the implication that the IRS would become involved.Such strong-arm tactics create an environment of fear and coercion rather than fostering a genuine commitment to the well-being of animals. It's disheartening to think that the focus may be more on financial gain than finding loving homes for these animals in need.Additionally, it's worth noting that the cost to adopt a pet was seemingly more reasonable than the amount required to claim a pet at the shelter. This raises questions about the shelter's priorities and whether the fees are genuinely in the best interest of the animals and their potential adopters.I had to pay for all of the vaccinations along with the days that my pup was being housed for reclaiming him and identifying myself as his owner. Word of advise: Pay $109 for a new adoption, even though you know it's your pet. As opposed to paying all these ridiculous fees and reclaiming your pet. In conclusion, my experience with this shelter has left me questioning their commitment to transparency and ethical practices. Potential adopters deserve clear and honest communication, and animals deserve to be placed in homes where their well-being is the top priority. I hope this shelter takes these concerns seriously and considers reevaluating their policies to better align with the welfare of both pets and their caregivers.

When a place refers to a euthanasia as "to discard of it" when it's so simple to say basically anything else, stay away. This place also refuses, against all available veterinary advice to allow an owner to be present during the process. The only reason I can think of is that your pet will be sitting around in a kennel for who knows how long before they get around to "discarding it" shady as hell to not allow an owner to be there and insist the animal be as frightened as possible during an already difficult experience. Let's add on an additional layer of trauma! Will be going to the Palm Springs equivalent where they will allow us to be there. When we asked the woman we spoke to there if she would have any idea why the Riverside location would be like this she said "We just have more compassion."

LOTS of dogs needing homes here, staff was very friendly and helpful. We were able to do a same day adoption for our girl, who ended up having a respiratory infection (although I'm sure this is common for shelter environments). The adoption process was quick and easy, we are so so happy to have her join our family!!

2.5 years ago I adopted my best bud from there a Chiwinni - LASeal E mon Hooks. He is healthy happy and loved. He is my second Chi and I would not have another breed. He is smart, easy to train, I can walk him without a leach he obays vocal commands, at his age 2.5 he's still very much a puppy, playful and loves to run. Being a Veteran senior citizen he is my perfect companion pet.Thank you WRC/CAS as far as I'm concerned you are the best. You cared for my first Chi and gifted me my second Seal. I almost wanted to get the one you have now I saw online for a companion for him but my apartment is too small.

Soooo we had to put our 11yr old cat to sleep on June 23 ( health reasons and not at this shelter). The following day during breakfast my husband asked me if I wanted to visit this shelter and see if they have any kittens. I was mourning our cat. At first I said no I felt like I was betraying our cat. But God had blessed us with our 11yr old cat that was supposed to die at 3 months old from health issues. My husband told me, don't you think our cat would want us to save and give the best life to another cat. That's all it took. We get there and were greeted by so many ppl with smiles and willing to help get us to the cats. There were sooo many kittens, I wish I was able to take them all home. But I left the picking too my hubby. There was one baby that didn't make a sound until we held her, and she purred so loud. And that was all it took, the hubby stood with her as I looked at others. Then I knew she was the one that picked him. CYNTHIA THANK YOU SO MUCH. You were so patient with us and answered all our questions. You helped make our adoption process very smooth. Nothing like I've experienced in LA with my other fur babies. My new baby has URI and was dirty, but that's common getting a new kitten or puppy from a shelter. Don't let that discourage you. With research and proper care she's all better. Also don't let the negative reviews on this site discourage you from visiting, you might miss out on a fur baby picking you. And all you yelpers posting about all they want to do is kill animals, I hope you have that same energy for these ppl living in the streets doing dope and not caring if their animals are fed. And now that is going crazy hot, take that energy to the ppl that have their animals walking on sizzling grounds with bubbling blisters. And for the ones that check the website or however you get your info everyday to see what animals are being euthanized, you really need a life or go volunteer at a shelter.

I have to put one star because there isn't an option to put zero, unfortunately. Dogs, cats, pigs, snakes, rabbits, horses, and more die here. Every. Day. This shelter is SHADY. They lie about the dogs behavioral and medical conditions to justify euthanizing them. I cannot begin to tell you how many dogs I've rescued from this shelter that were flagged as "aggressive" and "violent" on the kill list but were the biggest sweethearts when I picked them up. Additionally, if you ask the staff why they euthanize so many animals, they turn around and flat out LIE and say that they don't. Really? That information is publicly available online. The number of animals euthanized has surpassed the thousands. Why lie about it?The dogs here are TERRIFIED of the staff. They are mishandled and I've seen employees kick the kennels that they're housed in. The kennels are filthy with poop and pee that is never cleaned up (while the staff sit around on their phones) and the dogs get SICK from being in their excrement.. then they're euthanized for being sick. It's a never ending cycle. If you are a pet owner looking to surrender your animal, i am BEGGING you to not bring your animal here unless you are okay with it being put to sleep.
