Horrible, everything looked dirty. Ethical concerns. Giving two stars because the grilled cheese was bomb.

It was nice, but I wanted much more. Despite that, I appreciate the effort.

SIO was the birthplace of UC San Diego, and today is a research unit of the University. Its location close to the waters of La Jolla Bay and up the hill towards main campus offers spectacular views. But the research done at SIO by scientists from around the world is equally spectacular ... awesome, in fact. We've had the opportunity to take a private tour of SIO, meet with researchers who discussed their work, and tour Scripps Pier where, among other things, the SIO research vessels dock.

This place has a spectacular breath taking oceanside views was a place we had explore the area a little bit. There are cottages where students live that leads up towards the parking lot. I was super curious to take the trail but we decided it was to steep for us so we decided to turn back and head home. ~~~~~~~~~~ The southern end of Blacks Beach is also accessible through a gate at the intersection where Black Gold Road and La Jolla Farms. You could have surfers to watch in the waves and paraglider soaring above. I have heard through the grapevine the the southern end is clothing optional so beware. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Scripps Coastal Meander Trailhead has a steep incline with boardwalks. There have been inclines and declines while hiking up or down the sidewalks and paths. The benches placed alongside the trail that overlooks the pacific ocean. I have been to the cove store that is spacious and has an area around the outside that has the most spectacular views I have ever seen of the caves. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

One of the oldest and largest centers of ocean and earth science in the world. Hundreds of scientists involved in ocean and land research are conducting research using oceanographic vessels and onshore laboratories. Mission statement is to seek, educate and transmit scientific understanding of the oceans, atmosphere, earth and other planets for the benefit of society and the environment. SCRIPPS also studies the interaction of the oceans with atmospheric climate and environmental issues on solid land.

Beautiful location for a wonderful non profit organization and equally cool event space. If you're planning an event here you need to plan for a weekday at least 8 months in advance and if you want a weekend then you are looking at at least a year in advance. This place gets booked up quickly by conferences, lectures, school events, corporate events, and weddings, so if you have your heart set on it get on it early! Also be aware there is no free or extended parking at the Institute so visitors and guests of events have to pay to park quite far away and walk down to the Institute overlooking the water. They also have strict rules and a limited list of vendors who are allowed on the premises including food, beverages, performers, rentals, etc.

Scripps is a top-notch grad school (part of UCSD) doing important scientific research with a great aquarium (and gift shop) and, possibly, the most beautiful campus there is with the most amazing views.

Some University of California San Diego (UC San Diego) students study at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. SIO is a science university where students emerge as geophysicists, marine biologists and seismologists. Their studies involve around research. Research about the effects the ocean has on the world's environment. SIO comprises 1,200 acres of coastal woodland and is located in La Jolla, California, where both the students studying here, and students from other local universities get to be a part of these endeavors, too. Students study issues currently affecting the world, such as rising sea temperatures, overfishing, the impact of methyl mercury in fish, the plastic degradation in the environment ... well, you get the picture. The students study the ocean off La Jolla shores' Pacific Ocean at the famous Ellen Browning Scripps Pier and in shore-based laboratories. Students and professors also motor out miles further from the pier on SIO's fleet of oceanographic research vessels. The fleet of vessels are based at Nimitz Marine Facility. Students also get the opportunity to travel to remote locations all around the entire world to study with students from other universities, and vice-versa. Birch Aquarium at Scripps is located nearby. It is open to the public, as an aquarium for ocean science education. SIO is known as first in the nation and was voted the 5th best public university for research in 2018. Now you know why. #LUCKYSTUDENTS #UCSANDIEGO #SIO #PROFESSORSWHOTEACHTHEM #MarineLifeProtectionAct #

The students here are amazing there is so much opportunity here for professional research and career opportunities. I work here once a week and the development I see with earth, ecology, oceanology and geography, is fantastic we have brilliant scientist making a contribution to science, education and business.
