This place is a gem their croissants are so good. Ive also tried their baguettes and some other pastries they are also really good. Their parking situation is not the best, meter parking by park smart inc. which is a shady company. You will get ticketed even if you paid. I got ticketed with minutes left on the meter and the disputing process is impossible. It's sad this parking company makes it so hard to support local businesses.

I would give it 5 stars, but the coffee takes so long to receive that I just go their for the pastries now...Shame, be sure it's decent coffee! That being said, their pastries are delicious, especially if you like crispy-flaky pastries. Not very diet-friendly, but what French pastries are?Their mini-quiche are also very good. 325°F for about 20-25 mins worked well for me on reheating!

I lived on the French Riviera for 10 yrs. We learned which bakery had the best butter croissants, which for the almond croissants, and which bakery to go to for baguettes. We were very spoiledChataigne's croissants are real French caliber, the likes of which I otherwise can't find in the SF Bay area. Yum.

Superb french bakery. One of the best in bay area.Get there way early in the morning unless you want to confront empty shelves. The bread literally flies off the shelves. Expect long lines.Price you pay for fabulous butter filled bread and pastries of the kind you’d expect to get in Paris. The croissants are to die for.

Amazing baked goods and the bread is out of this world. The ambiance and their coffee. They carry wonderful jams too.

This petit bistro size mini market has a lot in tiny SF City size and worth the wait but watch out line starts outside! Oeuf, we cut a pence off, I apologize but the adult No comprenevous or just unacceptable. Fresh unique and peasant breads no Epi but baguette and shaped olive bread. Touche'! Great all things rural France, seating tableau outside, summer and nice accompanyments.Even chocolates, chocolate chaud, croquet monsieur basic but DO excellent por buerre via France. It's like a provence visit other than M/It's not too expensive either. Couple ran and they pour their heart into for producing wonderful items gastrique! Tres Bien, well done, thx for bringing in our home... Lafayette. Merci Hidden in circle Rd, it's in the pay parking lot n/east.

Cute, small bakery. I enjoyed that the madeleine was not overly sweet, and the quiche and latte were pretty good too. The wait time was a bit long since the bakery is so tiny, but the staff was really nice. What stood out to me the most was that the prices were so reasonable for the Bay Area! Recommend checking this place out.

Very very rare that i will stop eating to review a spot while sitting out in front, but the bread here is simply that amazing. My wife and i ordered a few things, but this baguette with French butter, ham, and cheese is so satisfying. The croissant is buttery, flaky, crunchy and soft. Would like to say more but i need to head back in to grab another baguette.

If we could afford it we would eat here every weekend. My husband got in line early and was home in time to surprise our daughter for her birthday. She specifically requested monkey bites, almond croissant, chocolate croissant, etc When you arrive be patient, there most likely will be a line, they might be out of certain things, but totally worth it.

I love this place so much that I'm already worried about the day when the owner retires or stops running the shop. I hope I'd never have to experience that. La Chataigne is part of Lafayette's identity and I'm proud to have this little bakery in our town. Their business model is different from other bakeries — it doesn't need scale, it doesn't need capitalism, it doesn't need more profit — it cares about quality, the art of making food, and the joy it brings to the community. This place is truly a gem. I hope it continues to stay that way forever!

Outstanding quality! If you want a lot of anything or expect everything available all the time, this isn’t for you. They have limited baking capacity, and it’s amazing how much they do produce!
