As many others I grew up going to this store and I absolutely loved it and when I saw it for sale I hoped it remained the same but unfortunately it hasn't. I don't know if it still has the same owner or not but they've completely ruined it. Just months ago I could walk in with my kids through that same squeaky ol red door that I did as a child and get candy from the same boxes on the wall but now that's all gone. I'm a very sentimental and nostalgic person and that's why I used to love this place but now like why fix what isn't broken? The new door sucks and the new look sucks there's no more interesting antique nick nacks to look at and no more buying my favorite candy in bulk like I used to. I told the grubby looking boy at the counter that there's not as much candy as there used to be and he said it's just rearranged. Sadly I now have no reason to stop in anymore they completely ruined the atmosphere and nostalgia and products its heartbreaking to me.

It’s so pricey there was barely any candy in the bags I miss the old penny candy it was so much better not to mention when you get an icy, there’s barely any flavor mostly ice I’m so disappointed!!!

I think they had a change of ownership lately the place has had a facelift, clean and updated, we had a shave ice and that was the same. It looked like there wasn't as much candy and gifts as in the past but still a worthy stop.?

New owners tried to turned the store to a “modern” look but it looks like a sad hospital. It used to have a 1940’s look to the store but now it’s turned into a boring nursing home. All the candies are still kinda there but took away the exotic candy away along with the chocolates. I miss the old look but unfortunately the new owners made the store terrible even taking away a lot of flavors for the shaved ice. It was very painful to see this place go down this way now it’s just a childhood memory.

We made a little trip from Oroville to visit this Candy Store that my grandmother said she use to love.
Walked in and not quite the atmosphere I expected, but that’s ok. I have little ones so they didn’t mind the dated decor.
Spent $85 on candy… yes I know, it’s more so the “experience,” BUT got home and tried some only to find out it was stale and missing ingredients (such as the pop rocks in the pop rock sucker pouch).
My grandmothers favorite Pot of Gold candy had a dried up marshmallow in the center.
Overall disappointed, but the owner was super sweet.

Okay anyone who knows the penny store might not know it's owned by a new owner,, you can tell just by walking in there,, I felt like I was walking into a gift shop,, a hospital gift shop,, there was no more dedicated to just candy,, you can buy things for your home to make your home look a little bit nicer maybe in your kitchen for the older people and then you have some candy that was so cater to the kids and a snow cone machine,, I'm not being from that area would have to stop every time just to get the old candy that you can't find anywhere,,, well they don't carry it either now, you will see the difference the next time you stop in you will understand,, don't be shocked don't be too surprised because it is a little different I don't think it's no longer the candy store, should be called the gift shop where you can buy candy there as well that's just my opinion
Do you have Flicks chocolate candy, that was one of the items I enjoyed buying there?

Me and my best friend stopped by this little store for the first time on the way back to college. The owner was so friendly and welcoming. She gave us samples of the chamoy gummies and they were so delicious! We will definitely stop by here again next time we pass it.

Great little shop. All kinds of candies, and chocolates. We like to stop in on our back from Sacramento and get some for the grandkids.
