The prices are cheap but service is terrible most of the gas pumps are diesel and you have to leave your card with a tendon if you want a full tank it's the weirdest gas station ever. I will not go again

Fuel with diesel as option. Super close to highway and fair prices. Fuel with diesel option. Lots of big rigs choosing to fuel up here and the nozzles are super big on some of the pumps for quicker fill up times. Hoses are long. The bigger the better right? The hoses dangle on the ground - they are so long it doesn't matter which side of the vehicle your tank is located on. Got some 91 for the Jetta and deezil for the w123. Love it love it.

January 2023 by John S.
My life is all over the place, but one thing I usually do is plan trips well, even trips I've made hundreds of times. But I think we all remember how strange and terrifying and just downright unreal most of 2020 was. At a certain point, for reasons that seem quaint now but that seemed very important then, I made the decision to visit my parents and stay with them for a while because of how bad things were getting. That stay through Thanksgiving ended up lasting through the middle of January 2021, and almost every single minute of it was worth it, looking back. Anyway, I've driven from San Francisco to Southern California dozens of times. When I was in grad school at USF and only had classes on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, I would often leave for my parents' house in the middle of the night and show up, unannounced, in time for breakfast. In short, I know where gas is cheapest, which fast-food places are at which stops, where the rest stops are, etc., along both the 5 and the 101. Everyone knows that the cheapest close-to-the-freeway gas on the 5 is at Santa Nella, so I normally fill up there no matter how much gas is already in my tank. But I was in such a hurry to get out of San Francisco and my living situation in early October 2020 that I left with under a quarter of a tank of gas. My car gets good gas mileage, but it has a tiny tank, and as the traffic built and built along the 580 as I approached the Altamont Pass, I really started to worry that I wouldn't make it to Santa Nella. I'm sure I would have made it to Tracy, if not Westley or Patterson, but those places weren't and aren't in my drive-up-the-5 wheelhouse, and I really was in a COVID-times induced state of panic, so I decided to play it safe and stop in late Livermore and search for something cheap-looking. Livermore Gas & Shop certainly looks like it will be cheap. I honestly don't remember how expensive the gas was, but it wasn't horrible. The number of pumps out of service was disconcerting, but buying gas is buying gas, and as long as you're not in some desolate Tweakerville, U.S.A. (I'll link that place's review to this one when I finally write it), you're generally fine. And I was. Ooh, ooh! And because of the detour to get gas here and traffic building up ahead, GPS routed me to this crazy, out-of-the way mountain pass around Altamont Pass. I have no idea whether it saved me enough time to be worth the strangeness and desolateness and probably danger of where I ended up going, but I did see cops pull over two separate speed demons who were absolutely driving recklessly on curvy mountain roads, so it was lovely getting to witness instant karma in action. Again, the gas was fine. The shape of the parking lot and pump area is circular, for some reason, so it feels weird to drive around in here looking for a pump that works. I'm glad I have this place in my back pocket for true refueling emergencies, but I don't know when I'll come here again, realistically.

Driving down Vasco Rd from the Brentwood/Discovery Bay area, I stopped at this station to get some quick gas before jumping on I-580. Well, that didn't happen because you can't use a credit/debit card at the pump. I'm not sure if all the pumps have this problem. But I looked and saw some broken pumps. So it's best to just go inside and pay for gas. The clerk was nice, and he let's you use the restroom. The foodmart seems to only stock the basics, but it was clean and organized. I didn't have time to checkout the Wienerschnitzel which is part of the gas station. That's why the gas station has a drive-thru. Why 3-stars? I've been here before, and I don't recall the place being so dirty. The pumps need to be washed. Some pumps are broken, and you can't pay at the pump. BTW, the gas here isn't super cheap.
