Very rude, condescending man. Unless you know everything there is to know about vws, he will make it so you leave there feeling like an idiot. Do yourself a favor and go to Jim’s vw over on Houston ave.

Gary lies about things he does, when working on your precious VW Bug. I had him rebuild my '62 VW 1600 engine. My case was saved but he refused to use it. He reused too many parts. I should have gotten new heads but they were rebuilt. He glued the valve cover gaskets to the valve covers & that required time & work, to remove the glue & use new gaskets, when adjusting the valves. He busted the heater cable & lied about doing so, even though I had taken pictures & showed him. No response. He used totally worn valve adjusting all-threads, with worn out ends, that push on the valve push rods. He used old heater boxes & left off the hardware that allows the heater cable to connect. Installed a used carb. Old spark plug wires, plugs & distributor. Put a bashed-in pulley on the generator shaft that was out of round. Unbalanced. Critical things. He treated me like a flunky, when I've owned a '58, '61, '66, '70 & '74 Bug, let alone a '65 notchback, '56 & '66 Ghia, '63 Camper, '68 Camper & '78 Bus. I recently had a problem with the '62 rebuild & he refused to inspect his engine, that had only 3,000+ miles on it. He only accepts cash. His sign says, "Closed To The Public." That pretty much says it all. Others have stated how he has robbed them. Not trust worthy. Charges excessively. In conclusion, if a person can't admit when they've made a mistake, you best take notice. The engine was rebuilt well but only time will tell.

An excellent place to take your German import. Have known, Gary, the owner for 20 years. He is an honest mechanic and will fix your car right, the first time. Wished I still lived up there to use his services.
