The waitress was unwelcoming and cold. Maybe she didn't mean to be rude, but her facial expression and the way she talked were condescending. It’s funny though to see people behaving arrogantly without any reason.

Just stumbled upon a hidden gem! ? I've been on the hunt for an authentic Japanese restaurant specializing in Oden, and I finally struck gold! This place is a haven for Oden enthusiasts like me. The flavors are exquisite, and the ambiance is simply charming. If you're a fan of Japanese cuisine, this spot is an absolute must-visit. Kudos to the chefs and server for their mastery in crafting this traditional dish. I'll definitely be back for more!

You wouldn't be able to tell from the almost hidden outside entrance but this place is great! So many great food and sake options. The chef and the server are both

Small plate eateryThis is NOT a quick turnaround place. It is somewhere to slow down and enjoy life Methodical service but exquisite food. Suggest ordering several plates at a time. They taste better when mixing. Great sake selection that you can order and save for next time.

Decoration was kinda mix of kitchen and Japanese restroom. Couldn’t inspire appetite. The lady waitress was kinda negligent or ignorant, refused to give any food recommendation. She claimed everything was good and I could not go wrong with anything. It wasn’t true. I tried like ten dishes. Half of them were too salty or over cooked. Oh don’t forget to ask about price and additional fees. She buried some price without telling you upfront. Not a pleasant visit all the way from out of town.

Love the food, ambience and pace. The true way to host customers who are there for the ambiance and neighborhood feeling. Call for a reservation as they have limited seating. The future You will be glad you read this!

?? JAPAN (via Eat the World Los Angeles) - A two person husband and wife team take care of absolutely everything at Shoya, a place that runs like clockwork. The closed sign flips to open precisely at 18:00, and there are only nine seats so customers are asked to make reservations to allow them to prepare adequately. Your table settings will be laid out when you arrive. Clockwork does not necessarily mean speed, as almost every dish is prepared by one chef. Come with a couple hours to spend and enjoy this leisurely pace as you will most likely order at least a dozen small dishes and they will come to you at a well-timed pace. Draft beer, hot and cold sake, and plenty of shochu options make this a proper izakaya, so order your favorites and settle in for a very unique experience that you will not want to ever come to an end.

This restaurant has a hidden rule that says customers can only stay for two hours. If you overstay, the woman at the bar will make it clear that you are no longer welcome with her rude facial expressions and unkind words. Also, you are required to spend at least $30 per person, and they charge $3 for every cup of water without telling you. I've been coming here for a few years despite all that, and I was shocked and deeply disappointed when the woman refused to give me a reservation because I stayed half an hour too long on my last two visits. This was when closing time was near and there were plenty of empty seats. The lack of communication and the apparent discriminatory treatment of customers left a bitter taste in my mouth. Avoid this place unless you're comfortable with receiving poor treatment despite spending your hard-earned money.

Very authentic Japanese food. The receipt is a little hard to decipher. She charges for everything including water so be wary. Great food!

do not eat here unless you support RACISM. multiple people of color have left reviews on Google and Yelp that they were refused because of their race. I came here twice because the first time the kitchen was closed even though they're open until 11 but after our second visit the restaurant was full of people the same as the first time but there were four open seatings that needed to be bussed but that was no reason to refuse service. they could have cleaned it up and we would have waited but now I realize they just don't want our kind of people in there being people of color that is. I went to leave them a review and see if other people had experienced racism like we did and sure enough there are more people of color who have had the same experience. please do not eat here if you believe everyone should be treated equally. I actually can't even believe I have to write this review in 2022.

Authentic Japanese family-style food, love the atmosphere inside. It made you feel like dining in Japan right after entering. The service is indeed slower but me and my husband do enjoy the flow very much, after all everything is worth waiting.
