Love the vet but their prices have raised significantly to the point of being $800 for a service I can get for $150 somewhere else. It's also impossible to get people to call you back for information. I got incorrect information and had an unnecessary appointment that cost me $800. Finding a new vet. Sad to see these changes. This was a good place for a while

This place is a joke. I took my cat in to try to get his bladder expressed cause he couldn’t pee. They took him out of the room and came back with an estimate for almost 6000 dollars. Then after telling them I couldn’t afford that and asking them again to just try to express the bladder they came back with another quote for about 695. It wasn’t until I said I will just take him to his regular vet that they offered to drain his bladder with a needle for 50 bucks. It costs 93 dollars just to be seen in the first place oh and on top of that they only drained the barest minimum out of his bladder. Why wouldn’t they empty it? Definitely not going back. I do not recommend at all

This place is a life saver. They have a quality Urgent Care, so you can bring your dog in that day! I've had different Vets take care of my dog and they are all caring. It's very comforting to speak to someone right away and at any time about your pet.

Experience with the vet has been ok; however, the front desk is another story. Friendly only to get the new patient in the door then comes reality. If you call in, try to assess the mood of the receptionist before you start asking questions...you'll find this out fairly quickly.Yesterday, I called requesting an appointment in March and was told to call back in February...she quickly told me they would not schedule any appointments that far in advance even though she didn't provide a clear explanation other than the vet might not be there (you would think a vet can arrange their schedule well in advance especially if they are taking time off or going to take a vacation). This does not work for my spouse & I since our January and February calendar is already full and its not even the end of the year yet...not a good customer service but certainly seems we are at the behest of the vet's limited availability at all times as they allege to require all appointments to take place within a 30 day period. Organized working professionals with active lifestyles outside of work like ourselves need the flexibility to set appts months in advance. On another note, our 4 pets were seen in late January of 2023; therefore, their annual exam is not due till late January of 2024 but when we requested a 6 month flea medication through Chewy for one of our pets...it was denied and Chewy's notification stated the pet had to be examined prior to the approval of the flea medication. When I called the vet's office, the receptionist tried telling me that there was a legal or medical "code" that required the pet to have a current exam prior to the approval of the flea medication but when I requested that she cited the "code", she responded with "you want me to google it for you?"...how professional. You reference a "code" that you do not know and expect not to be questioned. I asked to speak with the vet since the vet denied the flea medication she stated that would not be possible and her job is to basically to deal with my call.An administrator called not too long after my unpleasant discussion with the receptionist, telling my spouse & I that there was no such "code" but their policy was to have a current exam prior to approving "any" medication even "flea medication".My spouse and I have decided to find another facility to care for our 4 pets that has better service, can set appointments at least a couple of months in advance and most importantly have staff members that can clearly state what their policies are in reference to prescription medications and not just reference fictional legal or medical "codes" and suffer no consequences.Just like several other reviewers...this is facility is "Not Cheap" and is definitely more expensive than other facilities in Long Beach but sometimes we are fool to think that because we are paying a much larger amount that the quality of care and service comes with that...don't be fool like myself and other reviewers.I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND Primary Care Animal Hospital in Bixby Knolls to my worse enemy so why would anyone think that I would recommend them to any family member or friend. Our 4 pets will have a new vet soon so they can start the new year with new exam, current blood work and any miscellaneous health care needs as prescribed and necessary.

Professional, clean, fast, friendly. Not cheap, but reasonable prices. Came here tonight for an urgent care visit for my dog’s ears. They got me in quick. I appreciated the thorough vet visit… so different than my previous vet. Absolutely worth the price.

I've had perfectly fine experiences here in the past but have decided to take my business (and my pet) elsewhere. The big pro of this place is that they aren't booked out as far as many other vets are and I've been able to get appointments within a few days on different occasions (how/why I started going there). However my dog has had some more urgent medical needs lately and I've been disappointed with this clinic. Their recommendations cost a lot of money (not inherently mad about that, I know vet care is expensive) but I feel like I've been treated with zero empathy or understanding when I expressed concerns about spending $800 on testing (as a starting point) -- after spending $500 three weeks ago. Today I was coldly told I could always go somewhere else if their costs were prohibitive, and they had no recommendations as to where to actually do that. They require all payment up front and I don't know if they accept care credit, but in any event they didn't offer it as a potential solution to my stress before showing me the door. By that point I was ready to find somewhere else anyway, one that wouldn't make me feel like a charity case for not being able to drop thousands on unplanned bills. The good news is I've been calling around to other locations in the area and have been given estimates for the testing they recommended that were 55-65% of the cost quoted to me by Bixby Animal Clinic.EDITED TO ADD: Wow am I glad I went to a new vet. The new vet took one look at the test results taken at Bixby and immediately thought diabetes was the answer to her issues. Bixby had told me her glucose levels might be an early sign of diabetes and to get more blood work in 2-3 months but totally down played it. Some research online later revealed Bixby was totally wrong to downplay her glucose levels. The new vet thought all of Bixby's recommendations for testing and x rays were not needed since the signs were strongly indicating diabetes. We measured her glucose and did another urinalysis which confirmed she has diabetes. She started insulin that same day. Also the urinalysis was cheaper at the new vet and came back faster (less than 24 hours compared to 48).In the best light, I got very bad advice from Bixby because the vet didn't know what they were doing. In the worst light, Bixby intentionally tried to lead me into doing a bunch of expensive and unnecessary tests which would have run up my bill and delayed my dog from getting proper treatment.Do not take your pets here. You'll get bad advice for the highest price in town.

My poor Binx was limping badly and it turned out he had a pretty gnarly infection from a cut between his toes. I brought him into Bixby last minute and it was by far the best vet experience I’ve ever had. Everyone was extremely gentle, compassionate, and understanding when it came to the care of my fur baby. They checked in with me days after he’d been in and were just as courteous with his post-care. Very grateful to the Bixby staff. I’ll be going to them for all my vet needs in the future!

I’ve been bringing my dogs here for well over decade. Service was always great and so were prices. As of recently they have increased exams by an extra $30. It was 60 before and is now 90. Customer service is okay, they don’t always get back to you in a timely fashion. Exams are not thorough and the vet just Pets your dog for an exam. I took my dog to another vet and had a thorough exam and was properly diagnosed with that vet. There was a recent renovation of the place, before it was much more welcoming and homely. I’m guessing there’s new management and all these increased prices are to pay for their renovation.

If you’re searching for an incredible vet, don’t look any farther than Bixby Animal Clinic.Let me start this review with a little bit of background: I have two senior dogs, one with a laundry list of pre existing conditions ranging from new to old and minor to severe. I had been using one vet in another city for the majority of my dogs’ lives, but needed a new vet after moving.I was nervous to switch vets, and had trialed another vet in the area that didn’t go well. We had a few big things I knew we needed to schedule, so I decided to give Bixby a call.Dr. O’Neill completely put my mind at ease. She took as much time as was needed to fully understand my dogs and address each concern with thoughtful solutions. When there are as many moving parts as my dog has, this is no easy feat. She provides a level of detail and care that I truly haven’t experienced anywhere else. I’ve had dogs my whole life, and the level of service and dedication is unparalleled with any other vet I’ve had.But it’s not just Dr. O’Neill who makes Bixby great - the entire staff is incredible. The receptionists are always friendly and helpful, keeping the lobby area moving at a good pace. The technicians are always knowledgeable and thorough. I want to give a special mention to James, who is nothing short of an absolute delight and took incredible care of my pups before, during, and after a stressful procedure. All in all, I could not be happier with Bixby Animal Clinic. Thank you to the whole team for being so great to work with! My mind has never been more at ease when it comes to my dogs. You all are the best!

To start by saying I came in here because my dog has not been eating and got told x-ray or blood work is needed to find the issue. The x-ray was going to be $900 and the blood work plus fluids was $500, mind you I couldn’t afford the x-ray so I just went with the blood work. Waited until results came back and doctor told me the results came back fine and that i would have to proceed with a x-ray. Very upsetting because my dog is still sick and doctor told me I will have to proceed with the x-ray when i had mentioned I couldn’t afford another treatment. Please go elsewhere because this place is overcharging for treatments.

Off the bat noticed the clinic was clean and had a comfortable atmosphere which was a relief for me with my dog in the bad state he was in. Everyone from the receptionist to the nurses, aids and doctors were accommodating and supportive . Dr. Coulier took so much time over the phone with me to help me understand what was going on with my dog. She was genuine, supportive, and didn’t try to pressure me to make any decisions I was not sure of like so many vets do. Great bed side manners. I also interacted with Malia who checked me and my dog in. She made me feel comfortable enough to let them take my dog to the back. Kylia also helped to show us how to administer medication to our dog. She was patient and kind and seemed to care about my dog whom she spent time with. Bixby Animal Clinic made this the best possible experience for my family and I with our beloved despite the condition he was in. The staff at Bixby Animal Clinic was definitely the silver lining during these hard times for my family and I. I do not live in the area but plan to return here for check ups for my other two pets. Thank you to each of you for making us feel welcome and putting us at ease. This is how people who work with animals should be. Don’t see enough of this excellent work ethic in other local animal clinics.

The staff and team took AMAZING care of my fur family. We had a medical emergency, my kitty required surgery and a several day stay. Not only did they save my best buddy’s life, there was such care and kindness throughout.Angel (accurate name) scheduled us and checked us in, was informative and fast but somehow also super calming. Dr. Drury did my cat’s procedure, explained everything before and after and gave space for my questions. Paulina sent us picture text updates. Natalie helped ease my nerves before kitty’s first night away.Thank y’all. You truly treat pets like family ❤️?
