During a visit with my family, which included my parents and my uncle – a distinguished retired head coach who previously led the Chinese national rowing team in numerous international competitions, including the Olympics – we had an encounter with two older ladies purportedly affiliated with your rowing association.Regrettably, instead of extending a welcoming and respectful attitude, these individuals displayed shocking and overt racism. Upon learning that my family members hailed from China, they callously made derogatory remarks, expressing fear about the "new virus from China." This incident occurred in plain sight of my uncle, a respected figure within the global rowing community, and it is deeply distressing that such discriminatory behavior was exhibited on the premises of a reputable association such as yours. The lack of professionalism and decency displayed by these individuals is unacceptable and reflects poorly on the values your association presumably upholds. While a cursory apology was offered after my husband rightfully called out their racist remarks, it was delivered without any semblance of sincerity.I am writing to request immediate action. If there are security cameras in the vicinity that might have captured this incident, I implore you to review the footage to identify the individuals involved. Failing which, I will be compelled to escalate this matter to the higher leadership of your organization and explore all avenues available to ensure appropriate action is taken to rectify this situation.Incidents of racism have no place in any organization, particularly one that represents a sporting community. I trust that the Long Beach Rowing Association will take this matter seriously and conduct a thorough investigation into this regrettable event. I eagerly await your prompt response and resolution to this matter.

I’m glad I found LBRA. The community is so friendly and helpful. And I’ve had the best coaching and everyone helps each other learn. I feel very lucky I found rowing g in Long Beach!

Great place to row. Great community. Dock launching. Rowing lessons in sweep and sculling for beginners. Excellent coaching staff. Welcoming to newcomers. Crew team for Masters level competing. Adaptive rowing program C.A.R.P. Share facilities with Long Beach State and a junior program. Open house 1st Sat in June every year where they take out anyone who want to see if its for them.

The rowers here act like they own the Bay. Many of them are inconsiderate when leaving or entering the dock area—cutting others off and not paying attention to other vessels in the waterway. Maybe there’s an opportunity for the coaches to better train the rowers.

Don't know how it works now, but when I was rowing there in 76, we shared restrooms with the men. The coaches all cared about performance, even if you were lightweight. Kind of on your own somewhat, but we never expected to be, I don't know, waiting to be taught or something? Not too many boat houses try to be as accommodating . I have belonged to a few in oregon...station l, lake odwego...and or is collaborative.

Incredible rowing facility with Olympic rowers and coaches. Great indoor rowing gym, Roworx and rowing programs. I was really impressed with their learn to row day and the adaptive program for those with disabilities. It's a beautiful boat house and the home of the 1932 olympic rowing course.

Old and rusty equipment, have had clothes stained by rust after a workout. Expensive dues, they offer a payment plan if you don't want to pay the full amount up front but you still have to pay for a whole year. They ended up waiting many months after I gave them the check (their preferred payment/at their request) to cash it; pretty unprofessional. Half the time I can't even work out here because junior crew practice takes up the entire facility. If you were to find a spot to do your workout during that time, it would be entirely too loud to concentrate. Unwelcoming atmosphere to say the least. No wifi, half the restroom stalls don't lock. Make you pay an absurd amount on top of membership dues to take many hours of classes if you want to get on the water. Half the usable space for non-rowing machines is taken up by obsolete equipment.
