Ms. Renee is very knowledgeable about her business and I love that when it comes to her! Her products come straight from the Motherland itself and that alone speaks volumes ✊?✊? everything from clothes, books, incense, jewelry, body oils, clothing, YOU NAME IT !! It's hard to find quality products like this anywhere, definitely a local gem ?

I've been here maybe. 4 times. The other day. I had my mom and aunt with me. And I said. Let's go here this store is cool. They absolutely loved it. The owner was very helpful. And very kind. We loved her energy. She was so knowledgeable on everything, from crystals, herbs. I haven't asked for a book yet. But we absolutely enjoyed our experience with her. I will personally continue to go see her for guidance. And I'm really happy. We found this place.

One of the best African Stores in Long Beach. Nice friendly and knowledgeable staff. This store is the mecca for African books, products and a great open mic night.

Extremely poor service.., the total lack of customer service from the owner disgusting…. I will never return or refer this low class place to anyone… all she does is gossip… we put her stuff down and left.. after waiting in line while she talked about everyone and everything to her customers… low class. And as you can see she is a liar.

The Lady owner was rude wouldn't help me find a specific book that I wanted to read. I come in here all the time too busy gossiping about folk preferences like it's her business. I expect us as black people be more professional while doing business. Always support black own businesses however, this particular black owned company will be my last time here!! What is truly wrong with some of us??? You wonder why we never get far because of poor professionalism!!!!

Went to this shop for years until I figured out that the owner is just a money hungry individual that exploits the black community. Her prices are ridiculously high and the products that are affordable are faulty. Example, I bought san paleo that didn't burn and charcoal that didn't light. And god forbid you're 10 cents short! I've been living in LB for over 15 years and went to this shop to support her. Other locations have opened that may not be black owned, however are far better than what Renee offers.

So as I’m in line to purchase my usual incense and other items, frequent shopper here, I hear the woman telling the man in front of me “she doesn’t support rainbow groups, she is family friendly and gays are not real families and that is not what her business is about. Come on we can do better than this as black people in a very predominantly gay neighborhood. I will never support your homophobic business again, I left without making a purchase-shame on you!!Edit: Saying you have a gay mom is the equivalent of saying you have a black friend to justify problematic behavior. I spoke to both the man and woman you were speaking to for clarity on the situation and you said what you said. Your response is indicative of your true character. Your words, which you chose, are a choice. Saying things like “sexual preference” and who we “choose” to love negates the fact that we are who we are-I’m gay. There were at least 4 other people in the store and I hope they post too. No need for hearsay (reviews) when your own words tell on you. You absolutely have the right to stay in your lane, but when you publicly spout homophonic nonsense, it becomes my lane and I can call you on it-My review stands, shame on you!Edit 2: Furthermore, it is not the conversations about race and sexuality that divide us, it is the lack of conversation that does that. Without knowledge and understanding, ignorance thrives. Shades of Afrika is referencing the many shades of the African Diaspora, so that is in fact a conversation about race is it not? I belong to both the black race and the lgbtq community, and it is harmful and hurtful when two of the intersections in my life are continually at odds. You could choose to be an ally and advance the conversation, because while you are not part of the lgbt community, your nieces and nephews are according to your own words? yikes I’m glad you are not my aunt and I feel sorry for your kinfolk. To feel separated from any struggle because you don’t directly belong, is also part of the problem. I personally don’t belong to many groups that I advocate for, but I’m a human being and empathy is free.

Happy you moved out of the handicap spot. Don't do it again and act like it's entitled to you.
